Opencart allows the use of product tags (please note, these are NOT meta tags) which I believe are used for when customers want to search for a product using the search function. So one of my tags could be ''star wars socks'', and when a customer types this into the search it brings up every product containing the tag for socks.

This is all good and well, however, these tags appear on the product page itself, right below the Manufacturer/Brand, and above the price (they created pages but I have canonical links in them so that is a non-issue). Will Google look kindly on this or could it be considered as keyword stuffing? Or will Google know they're for search and ignore them?

I just need to know whether or not removing them entirely will be a good or bad idea.

Thank you for the information, I was aware of this and have excluded the pages created by the tags in the robots file. I do believe that makes the pages which the tags create null in the eyes of Google (correct?).

Knowing this, what do you make of my original query?

Yes, currently I am canonicalising links 1 and 2 toward link 3, but my question wasn't regarding which URL to use in the sitemap, but rather what Googles preferred URL structure was.

Does Google dislike the link 3 structure because it makes it links every product and category directly to the home page? It would appear that the Moz tool seems to think so (although they state that you're not penalised for it).

In your experience, what is Googles preferred URL structure, link 1, 2 or 3? I can easily change the Canonical tag to either of the three, that isn't an issue.

My question is regarding the URL structure best practices of a sitemap. My website allows search any number of ways, i.e.

1. http://www.website.com/category/subcategory/product

2. http://www.website.com/subcategory/product

3. http://www.website.com/product

However, I am not sure which structure to use in the sitemap (which is being written manually). I know that for SEO purposes the 3rd option is best as the link is more relevant to that individual product, but the Moz tool states that the home page should have less than 100 links (although Google doesn't penalise for having more) and by writing my entire site in the 3rd way it would result in a lot more links adjoining to the home page.

It is either the 2nd or 3rd option, I think, as the 1st category is not keyword specific (rather a generic term, i.e. novelties).

Does anyone have experience with this?

Ah yes, found it - thank you. I use Opencart, which isn't great. But your advice helped me find the file in 30 seconds instead of 30 minutes so thank you. That is the keyword space fixed!

Yes, I know I need to edit the code - but finding the file is always a nightmare. While I can edit code, I'm not a developer, and I tend to spend a good half an hour finding the file only to implement a 5 second fix!

I will of course fix that, but it won't resolve the issue at hand

Hi Sean, the part with the missing space is under Keywords, not Description. Surely that can't be it (but thanks for pointing that out, I will fix that as soon as I find the file which contains the info).

I pulled the latest moz report and my category pages are being flagged as missing description tag, but not only is the description visible on each page, it is also in the code for all to see.

I've decided to write my own sitemap because frankly, the automated ones pull all kinds of out of I don't know where. So to get around that, manual it is. But I have some products appear in various categories, should I still list every product in each category in the sitemap, regardless of some being duplicates, or should I choose the most relevant category and list them there?

I do have a canonical URL extension which should resolve any duplicate content I have.

So one of the big issues facing my website is that Moz seems to be picking up all of the ''Search'' and ''Tag'' pages, which is causing duplicate content. I cannot see any use for Google to index these pages, so is it better to create a No-Follow rule specific to Search and Tag?

As I understand it, they should be canonicalised to themselves so that all duplicate pages are automatically canonicalised by Opencart.

As for the backwards issue, THANK YOU! I didn't notice that and I don't know why this would be. I hope that by changing the format as instructed it will resolve the issue!

The pages in question are correctly canonicalised, so why would it appear on your tools?

As you can see below, both have the correct canonicalised url (referring to their page number) as well as pagination. I can see no reason for them to be flagged up as duplicates?

I was under the impression that pagination resolved duplicate page title issues with Google, but Moz is flagging them up as duplicates. Is this just a case of Moz not being able to understand pagination or am I missing something?

As discussed previously I already use an extension and the problem is still occurring. I was hopeful with the solution in your 2nd link, tried it, and as with most things gave me an error and took down my site. I'm sure this error is a problem that a good developer could fix but alas I don't have one.
