Cumulative effect
Does it make more SEO sense to create a series of pages (externalsite.com/123mainstreet) on a single site that already has good traction and relevance? YES! This is what I would do. The more powerful site should toss them higher into the SERPs right away... and they will enrich the site with fresh content for search engines ... lots easier to manage and less costly.

External links in a global footer
I agree with EGOL. That is a lot of external links to include sitewide. The presence of the word 'Sponsors' may also make it look like they are paid links. Consider simply creating one 'Sponsors' page on your site, and including a nice link to that page in your footer. It's hard to decide if you are contributing to their problem. I'd definitely advise them to discontinue their use of the junk network and remove as many of those links as possible.

Can our white hat links get a bad rap when they're alongside junk links busted by Panda?
Hi Mike, I'm glad that you had the foresight to warn the client ahead of time. A lot of people are learning the hard way that quick-and-cheap link building methods can indeed cause penalties. My inbox is full of examples Worry about links coming into your site that aren't legit, and links going out of your site that are irrelevant to low-quality sites. The fact that YoChicago.com happens to link to a site that has an unnatural link profile should be no problem.

URL paths and keywords
I had a feeling that there was something inherently wrong with my approach which is why I asked the question. Good to know that there's folks willing to help out - thanks for the clarification(s). And the separate town pages is a good solution. Thanks.

301 redirects and OSE
Hi Mike. OSE is based upon the Linkscape crawl of the web. The crawl process takes 2-3 weeks, then another 1-2 weeks to crunch the data. OSE is updated approximately once per month with the next update happening on October 18th. Hopefully your links will be visible at that time BUT it may take another cycle depending on when those links were added. You should also know Linkscape only crawls about 25% of the web based on page authority. This is actually effective because if a page is not crawled by Linkscape, it likely has little or no value as a link anyway. One last note, you definitely want to request your writer to adjust their links to the correct URL format. You are correct you only lose a small amount of link juice, but that can be the difference of ranking higher on any given search. Additionally the greater risk is when you redirect a page on your site meaning the link has been double re-directed in which case the loss of link juice is amplified.

What time of day are keyword rankings updated
I think this it's based on a daily queue, but that's probably something a moderator might be able to answer.

Are there errors in your PRO reports lately?
Hi Mike, I guess the numbers you are seeing are the authority metrics for your site and the competition, although these should not change so drastically, one explanation would be the discovery of new links by RogerMozbot (107k to 806k) and the lost of links from your competition, it could be that those are the actual numbers now and that the information on your campaign is just finishing its update (new campaign maybe?), anyway cases like this are directly related to the tool, so I would advice you to open a help ticket and ask them http://seomoz.zendesk.com/home Also, check the links from OSE, and compare to the links in Google, Yahoo and Bing, to see where those new links are coming from. Hope that helps.
