Hi Hemblem5, I will set it up like that in Moz as you suggest.
thanks for your help!
Hi Silverdoor, thanks for getting back to me. To clarify what I mean about "new domain": the client used to have their UK website at www.itelligence-uk.com. But their corporate HQ decided to design and build a brand new, multi-national, multi-language site, which is now at www.itelligencegroup.com. Off that main domain they have created a site for the UK operation and this is at www.itelligencegroup.com/uk/.
The UK management team of the client want us to carry out SEO for the UK site only. However I'm wondering about how to set this up in Moz because I don't want results for the corporate site, I just want results for the /uk/ site. Is this possible within Moz or do I have to tell the client to set up their site & domains differently?
I would add that we have not set up or built any of these new websites for the client.
Does this make sense?
My client has recently had a new website built and has created a completely new domain for this. The new location for their site is www.itelligencegroup.com/uk/.
The main domain, ie www.itelligencegroup.com is the global corporate site. The /uk/ part is the UK site and this is the only site the client wants us to SEO. If I set this site up in Moz as www.itelligencegroup.com/uk/ will Moz report on the main corporate .com site as well or will it just find rankings of the /uk/ site?
Thanks for those urls Thomas, I wasn't aware of the serps.com one, it looks very useful.
Thanks for your answer Egol, I was thinking that there must be something I was missing, but your answer tells me our team is doing the right stuff for this website - I guess I need to set a client's expectations better as well so that he doesn't look at this drop and start asking "what's gone wrong?" as the answer is probably "nothing". Bit of an education job to do there I think as clients tend to think that a drop in numbers is a bad thing and they usually only notice when the number falls but never when the number goes up!
I thought I'd asked this earlier but it seems to have disappeared. My client's domain authority has hovered at around 42-46 for the past 6 months. But in the past month it has dropped 6 points. Organic search traffic is up, no keyword rankings have fallen, external links are up slightly, but not massively. Competitors remain roughly the same DA although theirs are only around 14/16 anyway. What should I be looking for as to the cause?
Hi Jeremy, that's a good point - I guess what I mean is how specific should seo objectives be? We could set an objective of ranking number 1 for a particular search term, or ranking higher than the main competitor etc, but is it sensible to be that specific when such a lot is out of our hands and rankings change daily? I don't want to set up objectives that are unrealistic to achieve and set ourselves up for failure. Is it reasonable to set increased traffic as an objective when so much depends on the client's other marketing activities which may or may not be successful at driving visitors to their website?
We have been working with a client for 3 months and they've been happy with the progress we've made on their SEO and the resulting increase in rankings, traffic etc.
They are renewing their contract for another 6 months but this time want to set some objectives and want us to suggest what those objectives are. Is it possible to set objectives when a great deal of the results can be out of our hands, eg, how Google works, level of interest in the client's products in the target market, whether they take on board our recommendations for changing their website content to get better seo results etc? What would other people be happy being set as their objectives for a campaign?
Hi Cornel, yes they are on the Webmaster tools so that is helpful at least. Thanks for responding.
Thanks, it looks like the next update will be next week sometime. Thanks very much for this Duoweb.
Hi there, that's interesting - do you know how long it usually takes for OSE to be updated?
Hi Ivaylo, thanks for responding. I just checked the robots.txt and the list of disallowed pages does not included any pages in the section where my client's link is located.
Hi, about a month ago, I obtained a couple of good authority external links into my client's site. One of these is from a local government site, ie a .gov.uk website, which has a Domain Authority of 99 according to OSE and a page authority of 67.
However, these links are not showing up in SEOmoz or OSE and the domain authority of my client's site has not changed. Why do the links not show? Surely a period of 5 weeks is long enough for these links to be indexed?
Thanks Robert, that makes total sense. I'll go ahead and keep the tagline and the address - I agree about the Google Places local search thing.
We have just started doing SEO for a new client. Their web design agency has built a cms website for them and in the footer area of each page there is some global content which contains:
a) the company's address
b) a strapline, ie "family law specialists"
I have 2 questions:
I have understood from previous SEO classes I've been to, that putting the same keywords on each page of a site is a no-no as then Google won't know what page to bring up for that keyword. However, is it ok to put an address on every page and can Google tell that it is just an address?
What about the strapline? Family law specialists isn't actually a keyword I'm currently tracking but I could add it to SEOMoz. however is it a problem having on every page or is it ok because it's in the footer?
SEOMoz has just done a crawl of my site, and found 600 pages with missing meta title errors. When I have checked the list of these pages, they are all jpegs and not pages. Why is SEOMoz reporting that this .jpg files have missing meta titles on my site, which is www.webmakercms.com? SEOMoz has run several crawls of my site and this is the first time it has brought up this list of jpegs as errors and I don't understand why?
Hi, thanks for your replies. I've been onto the Distilled site and have booked a seminar. I can't go to LinkLove unfortunately as I'll be on holiday that week but I've booked their Psychology of Link Building evening event at the end of this month. They are also running a SearchLove event in october that' I'll try to get to.
I'd really like to find a one-day course where I could have it all explained and all my questions answered. I've been using SEOMoz for a month or so but I have many unanswered questions and feel that the user guide doesn't explain things, it just tells you what you can do, but not necessarily why.
Thanks Cyrus, I will see what happens in a couple of weeks with the new release. Seems like we need to get some links from more authoritative sites.
Hi, thanks for your responses, but I am still having a problem with this.
I've set up 2 domains, both at the same time. contemporary.co.uk is displaying results in the OSE. But webmakercms.com is showing no results at all. It says there is no data for this url and so there are no drop-downs appearing. I've left it till now to check because lavellester (below) said that Linkscape was being updated, but there is still no data for webmakercms.com.
Checking in Google Webmaster Tools, it shows inbound links from sites that OSE says have a high-ish authority eg Sourcewire.com has an authority of 59, Youtube has 100, and they both (as examples) link to webmakercms.com. So I'm not sure why OSE is not showing any of these links? I've added a screengrab of what OSE shows me for webmakercms.com.
