Hi All!

We are in the process of migrating to Drupal and I know that I want to block any instance of /node/ URLs with my robots.txt file to prevent search engines from indexing them.

My question is, should we set 301 redirects on the /node/ versions of the URLs to redirect to their corresponding "clean" URL, or should the robots.txt blocking and canonical link element be enough?

My gut tells me to ask for the 301 redirects, but I just want to hear additional opinions.

Do any of you have recommendations on basic social analytics software? We are looking for something that's not to expensive, that's easy to use, and measures the basic stuff, hashtag mentions, tweets, likes, etc.

nope, those raw files exist. They don't want to share them with the public. Legally is the only answer I got...I think it has to do in part with them being afraid of people trying to download the videos.

I've been recently been information by our dev team that we are not allowed legally to make our raw video files available in a video XML sitemap...This is one of the required tags. Has anyone run into a similar situation and has figured out a way around it?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No, I would only do this for articles that have a good "inbound" link profile. 301 redirects can slow down the servers, so having too many isn't good either.

This sounds tricky. When you say "spammy" are you talking about their inbound links, or are you referring to the content within those articles? I think there is an important difference there. If you do indeed have articles that look spammy because of the content itself (ex: keyword stuffing) but actually happen to have decent inbound links from reliable sources, then I would say to individually 301 redirect those. If you mean spammy as in the case that the inbound links pointing to these individual articles, then I would say lose them because you don't want to pass those bad links onto this "other" important page on your client's site.

Honestly, the best suggestion I have for you is to do some keyword research and get a sense of how your target audience is searching for the content you have. I think that will be the most useful way of doing it. Also, assess if there's some overlap on the content you have. Would you be duplicating content if you talk about "helicopter fuels" and "airplane fuels"?

Is there any reason why a website would submit all their content (videos, photo galleries, articles) to this?

I noticed something new on Google's SERPs today. Has this been up for a while? Has anyone else seen this.

Did you also search for site:www.webiste.com? Are they blocking the site?What's in the actual robots file?

Also, does this happen when you search for the site in Bing?
