I like to keep the canonical neat so it looks better in the serps so as to encourage future users to click on it (people like clean, readable URLs), so I try not to use unnecessarily complex URLs. I have had very good luck in canonicalizing messy URLs with decent authority to new, completely non-ranking but clean, URLs and not only keeping but growing page authority.

And I have a fairly large site which is crawled regularly so I do value consistency--whichever page is set as the canonical will eventually become the ranking page, so current rank is not the biggest issue to me. In the long run, consistency will make your life (and the life of anyone who follows you in your present position) easier. (That being said, it wouldn't hurt anything if you prefer to use what is currently ranking.)

It would be very unlikely that using "and" instead of "&" throughout your site would confer any advantage and it might confuse your customers, if that's not the way they are used to seeing your name. So stick with the & you use in your branding.

As always when these types of questions come up and you are not sure of the answer, go with whatever is the best user experience and you are likely to be rewarded. (Also, take a look and some big sites like Lord&Taylor and see what they do—they don't give up their branding just because there is "and" in their URL.)

If you use https://sanjosepaintingcompany.com in OSE, you see a domain authority of 5 and a page authority of 21 with 2 root domains and 6 links. I am not sure why using the https would give different results--I don't usually see that.

If the site has only been up a couple of months and is in what I assume must be a fairly competitive area where it might be hard to stand out, I wouldn't expect too much yet. And when I read "manually created 50+ additional links" I definitely don't expect much--links that you can easily create don't give you much value and, if you are not careful, could get you penalized.

Google does use title tags as suggestions about what should be returned as the title, but is more concerned about returning what Google thinks would be useful to the searcher. When you do a search with "agency" in it, it returns your title, which has "agency" in it.

For whatever reason, it thinks the shorter title is more suitable for the "au pair" query. [Perhaps because a less specific query is best paired with a less specific title--who knows how Google's mind works... ]

You could try searching a past month where you know it went from being warm to cold and snowy and see what the traffic change looked like then, just to give you a general idea.

Go into your campaign overview, at the bottom of the Competitive Link Analysis is a button that says "See Full Competitive Analysis." Click that and on the next page, under the menu that begins with Overview, Rankings, etc., are three little blue links. Click "History" and there you are.

If you look at your source, there are a lot of @import and javascript urls; perhaps this is what is being picked up.

Are you asking about a page that has a canonical link which is the same as the URL of the page? That is quite common, and not a problem. (Take a look at the source code of this page--you will see Moz has used a canonical that is the same as the URL.)

Under campaign settings you can choose to track all sites at your domain; a subdomain; or a subfolder. (It's under Site Basics on the Campaign Settings page.) Check to be sure that you have "Include all sites at the domain" selected.

Duplicate content does not have to involve pages that are grouped together. You can even have cross-domain duplicate content.

There is not a direct penalty for duplicate content. The issue is that when Google sees pages (wherever they may be) that appear to be the same, it will choose which one to index, omitting the others.

So as Andy says, when pages are being evaluated for duplicate content, it is best to be aware of very similar pages so you can take steps to distinguish them, if you want them each to rank.

When I first started my current job, I found out that in the past there had been a separate, small website for one of the products, which had been abandoned a couple of years before that. (The site, not the product.)

The site still seemed to have some good links pointing to it, so for the heck of it I 301'd it to the main page on the current site for that product. That page quickly grew to be one of the strongest pages on the current site.

This is just one anecdotal data point but based on my experience if it's not a huge amount of work, I'd try redirecting, at least for the pages with the best links.

I agree with what Timbronze said, especially about the links. You have very few. And as far as the business name, there are other businesses with the same name, including one with an exact match domain, so there is some competition there as well.

I don't know WIX websites (though from the quick search I did, it does look like you have your work cut out for you) but I took a look at your site with the Screaming Frog SEO spider.
The crawl picks up a total of 14 pages and the H1s are all the same. (There are also secondary H1s that are mostly the same.) It doesn't pick up the images, although of course I can see that there are images.

So I agree with your conclusion that you might have a bit of a struggle. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful--maybe there are some WIX users out there who can share how they overcame these issues.

Also, if you look at your link profile a lot of your links have that exact match anchor text "stainless steel fabricators"; in fact 176 out of your 270 links have it. I do see that that is the name of the company, but perhaps Google might think that is unnatural linking.

What we do is add explanatory content to the tag pages that are for key concepts for our website and link to them from a "glossary" page—people who are new to some of these terms can go there for definitions. We also link to the relevant glossary page in posts where the term comes up, helping to create good internal linking.

Other tag pages can be noindexed or just ignored—the Moz report is just for your reference.

No, rel="canonical" is the same internally or cross-domain. You are just telling Google which copy of that content to serve, wherever it is.
