Hunting the White Whales?
There is several ways to obtain links from the big sites, but as you might understand, the less cost involved the more competition you are facing. Running good PR effort, might get you the attention (and links) from these big sites. Try not to promote your product as much as providing something that has significant news value related to the site you would like to get featured on. It might be a story of how you are helping in the solving of a problem users are facing, it might be funding news - ask yourself what the users of the big site would LIKE to read, and not what YOU would like them to read. Typical mistake in PR campaigns, is focusing on features instead of benefits. Adding social bookmarking to your website, might help as well, but again ask your self what the USERS would like to share, and not what YOU want the users to share. In the past, providing valuable easy-to-digest content like infographics was the way to go.

Links are still showing in Opensite explorer?
Thanks. And just to clear things up, I'm not a SEO. I did some free work for some friends of mine, we are not friends anymore, & so I removed the links from my websites to theirs.

Can I promote a business page from Kuduz or City Search?
Hi Kristopher, Do you mean promote one of these pages instead of having a website for a business?

Mechanical turk, should I use USA workers?
Not sure but it would probably be more beneficial to do it for the country in what you want to rank in.

Geo targeting multiple locations organically
Hi Kristopher, Your question is a good one. If you do not have a physical address in a city, then, no, you should not be using these local platforms. Google and other local directories want actual physical locations in their indexes - not virtual offices, P.O. boxes, etc. Here is the language from Google's Places Quality Guidelines (http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528) that speaks to this: Business Location: Use a precise, accurate address to describe your business location. Do not create a listing or place your pin marker at a location where the business does not physically exist. P.O. Boxes are not considered accurate physical locations. So, anything other than this is a violation of the guidelines, and it's just good sense to represent your business in an accurate and truthful manner on the Internet. That being said, making use of Local SEO if you're an SEO company is somewhat of a moot point as Google stopped showing local results for web design and SEO companies in January of 2010. It is my understanding that this was partly based on their decision that these types of businesses are mainly virtual in nature (whether that's true or not), and also, heavy spamming of the vertical. So, you can't achieve true local rankings for this business model. We've had similar questions here in recent times from Members in the SEO/design fields who want to be able to target numerous cities within a state. From what you've written, I believe this is your goal. Such efforts will have to be solely organic, and the task at hand is to find a reason to create content about your work in various geographic places. For example, you might have a page dedicated to your SEO or design projects for businesses in Buffalo, NY, and another page about your projects for clients in Long Island. You've got to find something really different to say about your work in each locale in order to have a reason to create such pages so that you end up with robust rather than thin or duplicate content. Hope this helps!

Rel Author-Me or my logo?
It should always be a picture of you. Take it from a social media point of view or even a cock-tail point of view as I tell my clients, your brand doesn't talk to clients you do, so you definitely want to put your face/picture out there.

Yahoo and Bing, what do they want?
Hi Kristopher, ultimately Bing/Yahoo have the same end goal as Google - to give the searcher the highest quality search results so that they continue to use that service. However the methods they use to evaluate the quality of results and achieve this goal do differ. Of course search engine algorithms are something of a "black box", but here are two common beliefs about the differences between Bing/Yahoo and Google: Bing probably use SERP CTR and SERP bounce as a ranking factor. It's therefore really important to evaluate meta descriptions and page titles as well as quality of landing pages. http://www.stonetemple.com/search-algorithms-and-bing-webmaster-tools-with-duane-forrester/ Bing probably puts more focus on social than Google. http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/21/beyond-their-10-blue-links-googles-and-bings-search-strategies-take-different-paths/ Aside from this, major ranking factors on both Google and Bing include inbound links, on-page optimisation, website structure and quality. Good luck!

Content Marketing, Who do I use?
Who you use depends on what you are marketing and how much you are willing to pay for it. Look up your local respected marketing company - they will have the know how to help you with a content marketing campaign. If you are looking for a more wallet friendly solution, look to virtual workplaces like oDesk.com to find freelancers with proven experience. There are many marketing professionals who moonlight on such sites to make extra cash. There are also specialists in certain types of content marketing so look for one who specializes in the type of content you provide.

Legitimate Social Exchange groups or sites?
Yeah, I'm not really interested in buying "likes", I am looking for other people that are interested in Social Networking. A network the size of this forum can provide enough real social profiles to create a powerful group.

Does PR & DA not apply to Google?
That's not unusual. We outrank people with higher DA & PR for thousands of keywords. I would consider things on a page by page basis. Authority for a domain and page are not the same thing; this applies to PR as well. If you have a super high PR on your homepage, you might want to flow it around to pages which need it, for example. Your call. If I was to post a response on answers at yahoo with a link back to my site and there was nofollow, it would not mean that DA:100 would be a determinant factor. It's the PAGE itself which is relevant - there are several pages in that site with PA of 1 (i.e. 1/100).

Seo for a photographer's website
Hi Kristopher, I went and checked out your site. It's very pretty. I think the picture of you and your son is adorable! Okay, so here's my advice: Right now, in your blog, there are lots of great photos. To me, your blog is looking more like a portfolio than a blog (not a criticism, just an observation). What if you started writing posts about photography that would appeal to other photographers? I know that you aren't necessarily wanting other photographers as "customers" but if your advice is valuable and unique, it would attract inbound links. Lots of inbound links from other photographers would set you up as an authority. The stronger your authority the higher you rank. The higer you rank, the more traffic you will get. That new traffic, once they see that you have an authoritative and active blog (even if they aren't photographers and don't understand a word), they will be more likely to choose you for their project. Also, I'm guessing the photography world is pretty small. I bet if you asked someone influential to write a guest post for you, they'd probably do it. I'm thinking you're pretty passionate about photography. The great thing about that is you will never run out of ideas to write about. I hope this helps! Dana
