In regards to your last question, it sounds like it was a blend of you losing some links and the mozscape fluctuations. Always take OSE data with a grain of salt, that information is simply to give you insight to trends in your link profile. Did your domain authority drop or stay the same during the changes?

For every 301 redirect you do, you lose a little link juice.

Also, from my experiences with direct match domains... in google it barely helps. However yahoo and bing still place a lot of value in it. I would focus on building relevant links and on page optimizations for your site rather than trying to get keyword matches in your domain.

I may need a little more information to answer completely but my short response is this.

• 301 redirect if you would like both search engines and end users to be transfered to the new page
• Rel con if you would like end users to stay and search engines to be transfered to the new page

What is the reason for the update? Solely for SEO purposes or migrating to a new site?

You would never be penalized for having to many links on a page unless it is being done for a spammy/deceptive reason (and after reviewing your page - you are obviously not).

The reason SEOMoz marks it as a "warning" is because it is something worth knowing for two major reasons:

1. Most search engines can only crawl the first 100 links on a website. So it is important to place the most important links higher up on a page.
2. With more internal/external links on your page you disperse the link value far more quickly.

So once again, it is nothing to worry about but something to be aware of. Keep focusing on the great content you are publishing and less on the minutia of technical SEO

Use the anchor text tab with it set on "phrases" and "all pages on this root domain."

Once it loads - look for high volumes of exact anchor text. Specifically terms that are not branded or the websites domain/URL. This is a big identifier of spammy tactics.

This has happened to me in the past, make sure when you are setting your filter you have everything set correctly to get your full link profile. Make sure you have the inbound links tab selected and your filter is set like this:

Show "all" links from "only external" pages to "pages on this root domain" and "show links ungrouped".

The biggest issue is making sure you have it set to root domain, if not you will only be pulling the backlink profile to your homepage. Let me know if that did the trick, if not i would submit a help ticket to help@semoz.org. They are normally really responsive!

Diane, i fully agree with Simon on this one. Focus on your user first and stick to one domain if possible.

That's really neat - I saw it and was pretty blown away. Some times the big guys at Google make some stupid moves but this was definitely a beneficial one toward end users.

Redundancy is bound to happen for websites that are very targerted for an individual product or service. Without knowing the specifics i would suggest to target the short tail or more difficult terms to higher level pages like a home page or top level page. While creating longer tail or easier to rank for terms for the deeper pages.

For instance if you are selling Ski Jackets on your website. There is a very good chance that the keyword "ski jacket" is going to show up on every page whether you like it or not. However if you target longer tailed keywords the deeper you get the better, like "womens ski jackets" or "thermal ski jackets" etc.

Keep in mind these are all guidelines not rules.

So i have been working with a company running their SEO for close to two years now. Since i started to engage with them they have always used a very simple pop up for the first time an end user visits their website (via javascript and cookies). The pop up simply ask them if they would like to download a solutions brochure  from their website. So as far as pop ups go, it is at least relevant. The client loves this pop up, i do not.

For a while we have always held spots #1-3 for a lot of our keywords but we have started to drop to lower on the first page. So i have been researching to see if some of the new algorithm changes are targeting sites with this type of functionality. If i have some data i could definitely get them to remove it. So the question is, do pop-ups hurt your organic ranking?

The main negative is any inbound links to the previous URL will lose some link juice. However, after time search engines will no longer index the previous URL, just the one that you are redirecting too. If you want to speed the process up, try and submit a new XML sitemap to each search engines' webmaster tools.

The Scenario:
Currently one of my clients has 7-8 products that they sell on their website. For each product they have two different pages one with the product info and one with a video demo. So the pages began to split their authority as they began receiving new links. Since only one of the two pages for each product rank i suggested that we combine the two and redirect the video page to the product page to increases it's authority and rank.

The Clients Response:
After explaining my reasoning and next steps the client mentioned that he thought a site's size was a ranking factor. I had never heard of this before so i told them i would do some research to prove my point, after a little digging around i am now even more confused.

Ben, just to make sure i understand your question. Are you asking if there is a way to make sure that Google Analytics tracking is working/installed correctly OR if Google Analytics tracking is accurate?

If it is the installation side a few steps you can take to double check are:

• Use a crawler like Screaming Frog to check and see what pages do not have the script on it.
• Build a test page on your site with the code and measure to see how accurate the visits and unique visits are.

If it is the accurate side a few steps you can take are:

• Installing another tracking software like Get Clicky to have an extra set of data to compare.
• Ask your developer/system admin to pull your server logs to compare entries

You can take this analysis with a grain of salt since it only entailed around 5 minutes of my time but i think it has to do with the percent of unique content to ads on your page. I clicked through around a few articles in the formula one section and all of them had close to 6-7 paid advertisements (mostly above the fold) and only a few sentences of copy.

Then taking it to the next level the page load time was relatively slow but it seemed almost all to do with the advertisements slowing the load time (using fiddler to inspect). My advice, either limit down the amount of advertising you are running on actual article pages OR write more and higher quality content.

What you will want to do is set a custom filter under configuration to look for your specific Google Analytics account profile number and set it as "does not contain". Once you have that custom filter set, run the crawl pointing at your site. Once it is fully complete check out the custom tab and any pages missing your tracking code will be listed.

Also, keep in mind, in order to use this functionality you have to have the paid version of the tool.

Well if you know that the frame is already indexed you can do a site search of the frame and see what it looks like as well as the last cached date. The query would look something like this:

site:example.com/iframe-page.html

This will give you the page that Google has indexed. If you are going have the pages not be indexed i really so no SEO value into adding a hyperlink pointing to the frame itself (why build its authority if it is not in the SERPS?). So i would really just take into account the end users experience. If they can already see the framed content, why have a link that just shows it again?

Essentially, don't rely simply on one source (even though SEOMOz rocks) for reviewing backlinks and authority. Some referred me to Majestic SEO and so far it is extremely close to YSE and WT. Great point on the unnatural anchor text, that would definitely have a greater effect in regards to top 50 rank. After clearing up your link profile the content portion will get you the rest of the way.
