I would like Facebook promotion opinions. I have a local business (Seattle painting contractor) and have built a fan page  which engages our clients, local & national suppliers, friends and other contractors.

Our original intent was to use the fan page to promote our main website; we never added a prominent "like us" button on our main page, we did not want to convert for facebook when our best content was on our site.

I have been pleasantly surprised this past year how many fans we have accumulated by promotion and by accident. The main benefit has been rewarding engagement from other industry marketers such as Benjamin Moore paint company, and introductions to local design professionals..and these conversations once started continue by direct communication (email..phone).

I have just added a facebook link on my blog..see attached picture Join our 2500+ fans. Primarily because the visitors to the blog tend to be the sort that engage on Facebook vs  the type that want a painting contractor (Google analytics traffic data and click through behavior). I now have more traffic to the blog than the front end site.

What do you think of the button? What else should be promoting?

Each page is like an independent piece of real estate, the strength of each page depends on the pages popularity (links, social markers etc.). In a natural organic process others will link to those pages in a random pattern depending on the quality of content. Use longtail keyword versions of titles and fill in content accordingly. so..

instead of

dog training, dog training, dog training

use

dog training, history of dog training, dog training locations

Does it really matter if somebody takes your content changes it slightly and republishes it?

This is my original article on history of house paints which was also published on ezine in Feb.

and from google alerts I discovered this page  http://www.franklinpainting.com/blog/home/a-brief-history-of-house-painting/ a minimally modified version. It is not easy to create content so these folks just copied and made a blog post.

Their are now many versions of this on the web..who wins?

Thanks Keith, i did not realize citations counted all the way down to the "space" level. Some citations auto generate.

I use Wistia...its great.

The XML site map points the video to one page...other instances of the video would not be duplicate content. Sometimes you want to allow others to embed your video for say a how to video.

House Painting Videos on this home page are embeds but are xml site mapped on their own pages.

Here is a video House Paint color  tool that I may want to allow other sites to embed.

GA is deeper than Awstats and has integration if you have adwords campaigns.

Photoshop is the best with the most control...

but Adobe indesign; with its basic tool set would be a quick alternative..

PR is not as important as keyword ranking and traffic.

Duplicate content primarily refers to unique texts  (articles). The primary way Google indexes video is by video XML sitemap...the XML sitemap entry tells google what the video is about. The XML sitemap points the video to one specific page.

Example: Wood stain video resides on a deep page and is indexed by google to that page. But the same wood stain video is embedded on the main landing page for this painting contractor site.

re: transcript..I would change the text or at minimum add additional text to the transcript so that each page has unique text.

Zgraph, you mentioned you use the Adwords Keyword tool..what other tools do you use? webmastertools or anayltics? You are clearly ranked 1st for "Daytona Beach Insurance" when view serp cloaked...it seems impossible that you would not have any visits.

Design and usability (and taste) become an issue when there are bottons and blinking arrows everywhere....the content gets lost. I use social markers on pages with videos only. Such as Benjamin Moore Paint Dealer or Golf Tournament

Bob, good looking site. For your landing page I would make it very visible..perhaps near /around your signup call to action. On subsequent blog posts use social buttons at the end of your post.

Many quality websites have deep pages that outrank their homepage. This is actually a natural organic pattern.

In general most homepages can be classified as director pages with clear navigation to content...it is these content pages that are usually linked to.

This is quite an accomplishment...35 organic links. Give it some time. Every SEO has their own opinion on what is black hat and what is white hat. Are you using adwords? are you using google analytics to track traffic and conversion?
