Ok first, you should send an email to help at seomoz.org about the reauthorization problem. That shouldn't be happening and the Help team can help you out with that.

As for how the social numbers are calculated, here is a response from the engineering team:

"For the social metrics in OSE, first - they're not part of our Linkscape index. We compile those metrics from different APIs. The Twitter metrics are coming from Tweetmeme and they are page specific - not domain specific. So it's not how many people have tweeted his domain - it's how many times someone has tweeted that exact URL.
Facebook is a bit more confusing. The metric in OSE breaks out FB Likes and FB shares - however, on Facebook, when you see the number of Likes, that is a metric that combines shares, likes, and comments. It is confusing when we use Likes, because in OSE we are strictly counting Likes (like someone_liked_ it) which is not the same definition of Like on actual Facebook."It sounds like we're looking into fixing the way FB numbers work though, but it's a lower priority.I hope this helps!Jen

We just had a Linkscape update today, however it looks like there are currently some issues with that data. We're working to resolve the issue now. Please feel free to email help@seomoz.org if you ever have any questions about the site or technical issues. That way we can track it with other support issues as well.

Hopefully the fixes we're working on tonight will answer your problem though! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I've noticed also on my personal site that the numbers aren't quite accurate. I'll ask the dev team and find out how those numbers are calculated. But you might want to try getting those numbers from the Social tab in campaigns now instead? I'll let you know when I hear back!

This post is for all PRO members,

On January 2, 2012, we found a serious bug in our custom reporting system that made it possible for some of our customers to see other customers’ custom reports. This affected less than 1% of our customers in total (.6 % to be exact). Fewer than 100 reports could potentially be viewed by another customer. We are taking this matter very seriously.

98 accounts were affected and we will be contacting those people individually via their account email addresses. If you do not receive an email from us, don’t worry - you were not affected.

Soon after we discovered the problem, we completely turned off access to these reports; even though people may have been provided access previously, the access was limited to a short time period. They no longer have access to the reports whatsoever. The issue has now been resolved and all reports moving forward are functioning properly.

I believe that the "like" option now also includes a comment, so that would be my suggestion. For example if you like one of our blog posts, you have the option to add text as well. Facebook has made some changes in the last 6 months or so where a "like" is generally thought of as the same as a "share". So I think a like is just fine!

Hi Sara! I'm not sure that adding keywords to the title will help much for SEO purposes. It may look a bit spammy actually, and I'm not sure you want your Facebook page to rank (or possibly outrank you) for your keywords. But the main thing is that most people when they link to your Facebook page they'll normally use the anchor text of "brand name" or "brand name on facebook" or sometimes just "Facebook".

I think just adding your brand name is good as it helps for those brand queries.

I beg to differ that social networking is just a fad that's propagated by tweens teens and females. Sure when you look at Facebook data, the largest number of users are 18 to 25 year olds, but that's only like 20%, the other 60% are in other age groups, mainly older. And more than 50% of Facebook users globally are men. On the note that it's just a fad, social networking in general has been around for many years and I don't see it going away any time soon. Sure it's going to change and morph, but social networking is simply are part of our future.

If you're doing social right, you're not regurgitating the same thing that's on your website. You're building a community, engaging with your users and helping to grow your brand.

Think about a big brand like...let's say... Pepsi. It's a lot easier for them to reach Pepsi fans through Facebook than it is from their own site. It's easier to get someone to interact with them on Facebook since people are already there. Also it's not just teenagers on Facebook (like someone mentioned below), I mean how many times do we hear people talking about their mothers, aunts, uncles, dads, grandparents being on Facebook? All the time.

If you're a big brand (which it's mostly big brands that do this) then you're using social more to engage with the community than specifically for rankings. I mean if you're Pepsi, you're always going to rank first for pepsi keywords. But getting your brand in front of the face of your fans, in the place they already go... priceless!

Hey everyone! OSE isn't going anywhere, we'd never leave you high and dry that way.

I agree with Brett, plus there was a study that showed that Facebook doesn't show posts made by outside apps in the feed as often as it does if you post directly to Facebook. So not only do you want to keep that content unique to your users, you want to make sure you getting as much prime time as possible.

I'm not sure there's an issue with "duplicate content" in social, as it is in general SEO best practices, but from a user perspective, definitely keep it unique.

You will be able to access it online indefinitely. Also, there is a link to the video bundle from the "Learn SEO" tab in the main navigation. Of course it seems to not show up if you go there from within Q&A but if you go to the homepage, then "Learn SEO" there is a link to: http://www.seomoz.org/mozcon-videos.
