RE: How to migrate "friends" to likes on a new facebook corporate account
Hello!
I'm not sure you actually have to move them over manually. Check out this help page on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=213602951994043:
How do I convert my profile (timeline) to a Page?
If you would like to convert your profile (timeline) to a Page, click begin here.
When you convert your profile (timeline) to a Facebook Page, we'll transfer your profile pictures and add all of your friends and subscribers as people who like your page.
No other content will be carried over to your new page, so be sure to save any important content before beginning your migration.
To avoid losing important content, we recommend taking these steps before you convert your profile (timeline):
- Download your profile (timeline) information. You can download a filethat contains all of your sent and received messages and all of the photos and videos you’ve uploaded to Facebook.
- Appoint a new group admin or a new Facebook Page admin to any groups or pages that you manage. The account you’re converting will lose these admin rights during the conversion process.
Hope this helps!Jen

RE: What Q&A Forum Platform Does SEOmoz Use?
It does make it difficult to have multiple platforms, I'll have to ask a dev though about whether we're planning on moving it all to RoR. I believe PRO is actually built on a different platform even, oy!

Q&A is completely custom built in Ruby.
Thanks! -

Actually the main site is built with CakePHP but Q&A is not. This is built in Ruby.

RE: Facebook Like Wall
Hey Thomas!
There used to be a tag in FBML you could use, but now that it's in iFrames I haven't tried to set one up. I have heard talk of http://www.facebook.com/revealtab though, which is a way to set up the reveal tab without having to know any code. You might want to check that out.

Hope it helps!

RE: How do I speak to Rand ?
He's just a normal guy.
Shoot him an email rand at seomoz.org. He's better at responding than most people I know, including myself -
RE: Facebook competition: what's the best way to do it
Hi! Hopefully I can shed a little light on whether to go after shares or likes. Both actually correlate well with higher rankings, but this isn't necessarily a direct correlation it could simply mean that good content gets shared AND linked to which in turn helps rankings. Originally "likes" didn't show up in a user's wall or stream only shares did, so at that point they were more valuable because the share would be seen by more people. However FB has changed it so if you "like" something, not only does it show up on your wall/stream but it also allows you to add a comment. So it works very similarly to a share. If you feel that you can get more "likes" then go for it!
I hope this helps a bit.

RE: Sending a global facebook message
Bob,
Since you don't have a lot of "likes" plus the page has been inactive for so long, I'm not sure you're going to get much traction by emailing everyone. I also don't think it will hurt anything.
I know... real helpful right? If you do send an email, I would suggest making sure that you call out the name of the group or page specifically so if they do get two emails, they see it's because they belong to both.As Frank mentions, it's also good to add info about moving the pages right on the page itself. That might get people's attention more than anything.
Hope this helps!

RE: Sending a global facebook message
I think this is a great idea in general. Let people know in several different ways that you're moving the page. Adding a message to the page, plus a status update will let your "like"ers know in the app.
