Best Practice - Linking out to client websites in niche industry
Hey Janet, Like Jordan says, putting a bit of content around each to provide a bit of background info about each service would be good, rather than just a list of links to other companies. About the follow / nofollow issue, as long as the sites aren't spammy, there shouldn't be a need to nofollow them. I've heard it reinforced several times recently that as long as you trust the website you're linking to, there's no need to nofollow the link. Adding a nofollow to the link is like saying to search engines, 'I don't trust this guy' - but if you didn't, why would you link to them? Anyway sorry for the rambling but where the links are duplicated, nofollow, otherwise there's no need.

Rank Locally and Globally (or at least Nationally)
You come through again, Laura! I really appreciate the links and guidance you have provided. Now, to explain this to my client -- wish me luck.

Seasonal keyword tracking locally?
Another thought would be to look at Google Trends. I did a quick search for fence repair in the US http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=fence+repair&geo=US and over the last several years, winter clearly has a dip in searches. Also interesting is that the southern states have more searches than the northern states in general.

Can't figure why ranking dropped after SEO improved.
Under the performance tab and general settings check to see if debug mode is checked. Not that I am expert on this plugin! It is very complex. Best!

Could client be skewing search results?
The on-page grader lists the pages that rank in the top fifty for a keyword in one of your campaigns. In other words if you are seeing a phrase, even if the associated page is graded an F, it is because that phrase brought up that page in the top 50 search results. In general the rule is one phrase per page, but it is not uncommon for a page to rank for a group of related long-tail queries. However if a page is an F for a query, you may have to make a lot of changes for it to grade well for that query, which would likely have a bad effect on the query that is is meant to rank for. It would probably be better for you to figure out what elements of the page caused it to come up for the phrase it got an F for, and make a new page keeping those related elements and adding content relevant to this phrase. [The letter grades are not supposed to be the final word on the probable success of a page, btw.] As far as whether your client is causing significant changes in Google's behavior, I would think not or else a lot of SEOs would be spending a lot of time typing in strategic search terms. [Though perhaps if they are very low search volume terms and bringing up results on the fifth page, it might not be impossible that that is what Moz is picking up. But it still wouldn't be important.]

Sitemap issue? 404's & 500's are regenerating?
You likely have a .htaccess issue causing a rewrite error. You may want to examine or replace your .htaccess with a default. Also, I've seen some plugins cause this error. What is happening is this: http://www.atozqualityfencing.com/newsite is sent to: http://www.atozqualityfencing.com/newsite/ Note the trailing slash. But that page is returning a 404 error. If I go to http://www.atozqualityfencing.com/newsite/index.php it redirects to http://www.atozqualityfencing.com/newsite/ So there is likely something wrong in the redirect rules. I would try disabling all plugins. If that fails, compare the current htaccess to a default one and remove any modifications. .
