RE: Linkedin profile severely penalized
Andrea
A few days ago. I did substantial keyword optimization to it. as a business owner I essentially listed 3 different jobs under the same business and then listed myself as having the same position for another business which had an almost identical job description - essentially showing repeating text.

Linkedin profile severely penalized
I may have over optimized my linkedin profile...as a result it only shows up for
linkedin + my name (ilya elbert) it does NOT show up for just my name query alone on the first 200 results.
I've removed all my jobs and most of the info and am going to gradually re add things when I get it back - is there anything I can do to speed up the process of reconsideration? I guess I'm new to this over optimization penalty.

Best practice for rich snippet product data - which page shows up?
We have a website with thousands of pages that rank locally for a specific service we offer. What I'd like to do is add rich snippets to these pages. I'd like to setup the services we offer as 'products' in the rich snippets, so that our 2 services show up below the url as rich snippets.
I guess I'm not sure if the markup is supposed to be on the product page itself, or if I should use the offerurl tag, to create a separate page on the site whose only purpose is to have a long list of the services we offer pointing to the local pages as the offer url's. What do I do with this page? what are best practices for this offer aggregator? Are there any resources I can look at? Am I even doing this right? I'm new to having markup pages, and I'm hoping that the markup code doesn't actually need to be on the product offer page itself, but that the product offer page is the one that shows up on the results - that is my last question actually - which page will show up? the offerurl link, or the actual markup page.

RE: Seo using images

That's a great idea, I forgot that a video can be a collection of stills

Any advice on which video sites to use? Should I be embedding links into the youtube videos? Which sites would give me a do-follow link?

Seo using images
I have a client that creates a lot of custom jewelry and takes pictures of it. They've been reluctant to part with it for fear of competitors stealing their designs, but I was able to finally wrastle them into submission and get them to release 30+ original images. I had some ideas about it, but I was wondering if you guys could help me brainstorm doing some linkbuilding using these images.
1. tag them all on pinterest
2. create a slideshow using them and upload to slidesharing sites
3. create a flickr account and upload all the images
4. search for other image/slideshare gallery sites and upload to them. (I welcome any suggestions regarding this).
Any other suggestions for submissions? I was also thinking of creating some written content around each image. What type of web properties would be best for for example a FAQ about custom made emerald rings, or other types of jewelry.

RE: Example of a local "boring-niche" site in a relatively high competition area using strictly white hat tactics

Thanks so much, your succinct and direct response is very valued, especially because it seems like quite a few replies are self-endorsing.

That's a pretty amazing example of using locally sourced content to create unique pages for each city/state and to build local trust.

How important are different class c subnets and ip's
We're thinking of launching several blogs in our niche and 'building them up' organically, and then linking naturally from them to our sites (very conservatively). I was wondering if we should buy entirely separate hosting for these blogs and how important are separate ip addresses and class c subnets (shown on majestic SEO tools for instance). Is it possible to create a set of authoritative blogs in a niche and have them be a little 'neighborhood' within the same shared hosting provider (obv similiar class c or even same ip).

Example of a service site using 100% white hat tactics in a competitive niche
Could someone show me an example of a service site that is using 100% content generation/brand building tactics in a boring niche? such as plumbing/electrical/movers, etc. All I see are paid nav/footer links, profile spam, directory submissions etc ranking in every niche. I'm looking for a specific example. Any site will do.

RE: Example: is this what Penguin is designed to stop?
Modbargains I don't think this answers my question at all. I simply pointed to footer links on this site, to show that one of my competitors is buying links. I asked if people thought that this type of behavior is exactly what Penguin is designed to remove.

RE: Websites where you can offer a service in exchange for a blogger reviewing it

If you were a blog owner, would you accept a free pc optimization/computer speed up in exchange for a review?

RE: Websites where you can offer a service in exchange for a blogger reviewing it
One of our services is a remote pc optimization. So we remote control your pc, and then speed it up, remove viruses, etc. our site is www.computerhelptoday.net

Websites where you can offer a service in exchange for a blogger reviewing it
Are there sites aside from blog link up where you can offer a free service to a blogger in exchange for a blog entry reviewing the service?

And this is what is outranking me in my niche.

(look all the way on the bottom). Is this exactly what Penguin was designed to stop?

RE: Help needed regarding managing client expectations - tricky situation

I'm dealing with my first 2 paid clients recently, and one of them is actually in the same boat as you are - a fairly brand new site with no links. I was able to rank with just good on page in a non-competitive niche, however I will say that you may want to throw a few low level links at the site just to prod it along. It doesn't need to be direct anchor text - you can just have the link be the website name or company name.
Also, I'm not sure if the old site was linked to from all the local profile sites such as yelp, google places, citysearch, etc. It probably has a 'blended' result because its age, and google maps rank. Have you done a competitive analysis of the niche? Have you checked the rankings of your new site? Is it in the top 4 pages? if its not even in the top 4-5 pages for the main keywords you probably got something wrong in the on-page optimization.
Lastly, I think the main problem is that the old site, while being spammy - WORKED. You disrupted something that was working/chugging along, and now the client is going to be looking to you to improve. You essentially overpromised and underdelivered, without even getting paid. Now you'll have to shovel your way out. I recommend using this as a way to practice your on-page skills, and to make sure that the content is relevant, and related to the niche you're targeting. I would also throw some cheap links at it - make sure the site is listed in all the major local yellow pages/profiles correctly.
