302 to 301 redirect
Our site has quite a few 302 redirects that really ought to be 301's.
Our IT department is really busy so the question is, given that the 302's have probably been in place for years, is it worth changing them to 301's now?
Thanks

RE: Is opening multiple Facebook pages a good strategy?
It might make sense to have different pages per country so that the comments are replies are all in a language understood by those visiting the page - depends on your resources though.
If you have many products, I wouldn't do a page for each - far too difficult to keep on top of.

RE: Can you have more than 1 site on the first page if site look and content is completely different but keywords are the sam.
I would probably spend the time improving the main site instead.
The more sites you have, the more time you need to update them.
You can always use videos and images etc to show up on page 1 in more than one place.

Duplicate content - font size and themes
Hi,
How do we sort duplicate content issues with:
http://www.ourwebsite.co.uk/ being the same as
http://www.ourwebsite.co.uk/StyleType=SmallFont&StyleClass=FontSize or
http://www.ourwebsite.co.uk/?StyleType=LargeFont&StyleClass=FontSize
and
http://www.ourwebsite.co.uk/legal_notices.aspx
being the same as http://www.ourwebsite.co.uk/legal_notices.aspx?theme=default

RE: Getting links into forums
Dropping links in forums can backfire on you if the forum members take offence at you spamming.
Sometime you can't even drop a link until you have made a certain number of posts but even when you can, the link must be really relevant. If it isn't helping someone it is spam.
It might be useful to link to your website on your bio page instead.
Each forum is different so take your time to get to know it.
As already said by Marcus and Matt, participating in forums can help raise your online visibility which has got to be good, but don't overdo the links.

RE: 301 redirects on Windows server
Thanks.
We are using IIS6 - will take a look at the rewrite module you suggested.
The site is verified with GWT but thanks for reminder to notify ref change of address.

RE: XML Feed
I would say that that they wouldn't be receiving any and that the content would be seen as duplicate because it is the same as on other sites.
If the site that the feed is coming from is the site that is important to you, then you want that to be indexed first.
I think you can use the canonical tag on the sites with the duplicate content to show the original source.
Can the other sites not create unique content to make them more useful?

RE: How many links can i do in a day
If the links are varied and built legitimately, they will look natural and so you will be OK.
I'm not sure you can put a number on what is OK or not though

301 redirects on Windows server
Hi, We are soon moving www.ourumbrellaorganisationwebsite.co.uk/oldsubsidiaryname/index.aspx AND www.differentolddomainname.co.uk to just www.ourumbrellaorganisationwebsite.co.uk (an existing site which will no longer have the old subsidiary name sub section). How do we do the 301 redirects on a Windows server? Helicon has been suggested but I don't know it.
I know we need to 301 redirect 'old' pages to the equivalent new ones, but is it a problem to do all of the old pages (there are lots) or should we just just do a few? is there ever a downside to doing individual redirects for an entire old site?
Also, once the 301 redirects are in place from the old domain, is it possible to let the old domain expire and if so, at what point?
Thanks
