Site Got Hacked! Need Help!
that sucks, hackers are criminals if it's the entire site you could request root domain removal in WMT and they will deindex the entire site then it's simple to get the site indexed again, submit URL to google, link from prominent places, resubmit new sitemap to google etc. This ensures the old adult junk will go away instantly and the new stuff will appear. what are your rankings like, if they are good and you are afraid of losing them then just be a little more patient, don't request the site to be deindexed and work on getting the crawlers coming back. check your robots.txt to make sure they didn't hijack that file! they could be blocking Google from crawling in robots.txt

Having both <title>and <meta name="title"...> on a web page?</title>
I'd definitely have them remove it as you'll be getting errors for having 2 page titles. You want to stick with <title>...</title>

Having both <title>and <meta name="title"...> on a web page?</title>
That should be <title>only, the additional tag may not be causing an issue, but it will only cause confusion and if you're editing the page, you might as well fix it.</p> <p>As far as the description and keywords, open up the source code for this page and you'll see:</p> <p style="padding-left: 30px;"><meta content='Answers to ....... at SEOmoz' name='description' /></p> <p>Doesn't seem much different than what you listed, aside from single vs. double quote marks.</p> <p>This probably isn't the biggest fish to fry with their site, I'd personally focus my efforts elsewhere. Duplicate Page Issue
Yes, adding canonical tags will help. Or just 301-ing the other URLs to the SEO-friendly one.

Http and Https Update
Hi Matthew, You definitely want your pages to resolve to one version or another, either http or https. Don't leave it for the search engines to sort it out. For instance, take a look at Paypal, which redirects every single URL to https. Google and all major search crawlers can now handle https with ease, but if you place your content on 2 different URLs, this can count as dupe content. If the https pages actually redirect (via 301) to http, there is no issue of cloaking. Does that help?

Inter-link Optimization for Pages
Hi Matthew. I think you have the right idea and thought process. Interlinking pages is very user friendly and a solid SEO strategy. Links in content offer more value then links in navigation or footers both to users and SEO. This strategy also provides link to many pages in your site which otherwise are not part of your navigation. The greatest part is the links are offered based on popularity. Links in navigation and footers are always there. Even if not a single visitor comes to your site, those links are always there on every page. Proper internal linking as used on wikipedia only appears when a topic is discussed. The more it is discussed, the more links and vice versa. This strategy allows much better management of your site's precious link juice. Does it all depends on Page Authority? How frequently and deeply your site is crawled always depends upon your PA/DA. With that said, your links in content will be given the highest priority and that's another great part of proper internal linking. As long as you keep things helpful to users and reasonable, I would not have any concerns. Review your navigation/sidebar/footer links to ensure they are all necessary. If so, I would continue with your plan. I hate to throw out a number because there are many factors to consider, but I would not recommend going too much about 140 links unless your PA/DA was strong. Can i go inter-link crazy on 1 year old legitimate site? Site age is not a factor. 1 day or 15 years old you would use the same linking strategies. I hate to endorse anything with the term "crazy" in it. I would say you can use interlinking in a similar manner to wikipedia. If that's what you call crazy, so be it.

Subfolder to Root Domain, Should i or not?
If this was my client I would leave the content as-is. There will be no benefit to moving the content other then a cleaner URL. Yes the cleaner URL is preferred, but based on the backlink situation you described, it is not worth the move. If you were to undergo a CMS change or other situation which required a URL change, it would make sense to move the content at that time. If you didn't have many backlinks, or if you only had a small amount of content, it could also make sense to make the move.

Search Result Page, Index or Not?
Changing the URL as you've done should help, but if it is still a search results page, Google won't want to show it, even though they don't put a lot into identifying internal search landing pages. So you should be fine with what you've done. If you feel these pages are really helpful and you'd like to land users on them, an improvement might be to create navigation to http://www.mysite.com/travelguide/attraction-guide.html and similar pages and redirect internal searches for relevant keywords to that page. This way the page is more than a search results page.
