Old links
yes, 404 means link is no longer counting and your work is done this is why people should never point links to their homepage, you can't 404 your homepage. these directories allowed you to deep link to internal pages though? a lot of directories want your homepage link.

IFrames
No one except the Google Engineers will know. There is a difference between crawling an iFramed page/following the links and passing link juice.

Large site rel=can or no-index?
Option A seems to be the best option as it can pass linkjuice you could get on a deep page (training-course/date/time) to the main course page.

Rankings dropped - Why?
Hi Matt & Marie, Many thanks for your comments. I think it is Google only. Having not identified any other likely cause, I think that the Panda update on the 21st of November is the likely culprit, the timing is definitely correct. Thanks again, Gary.

GeoIP - Redirect all but target country
Hello, Thanks for this, and this is an old thread but I had a very smilar question to this. What do you exactly mean by indexation problems? Do you mean the Google refuse to crawl UK site in this example? So they don't index UK webpages? I don't think this make sense? or I am getting a wrong idea. I am just wondering where you found this information. I did my homework and SEOmoz ppl talked about "cloaking" video by Matt Cutt and He says GeoIP redirecting is fine? I am no where close to an expert but had to ask this question because I was trying to do the same thing, http://www.seomoz.org/q/redirecting-root-domain-to-subdirectory-by-ip-addresses-country-specific Thank you!

Multiple locations
Hi Mike, Thanks for your answer. Both organic and local. My main concern was whether displaying the 3 addresses in the footer as well as just one of the addresses on each location page was a good idea. Thanks.

Google places - multiple clients
I followed the steps I read in some help forums - basically deleting it from one account and then claiming it again. I just had to answer my phone to get a PIN and it all took just a day or two.. http://www.google.com/support/places/bin/search.py?ctx=en:searchbox&query=transfer

Google Places
The fact they don't "own" the location doesn't matter. Many small businesses don't "own" the locations, they are leased. I'll bet the client in this case leases space to hold their training classes. It would be appropriate to to have a places listing for each location. In the addresses they can just create arbitrary suite numbers to indicate that they may not be the ONLY business in that "place."
