There are  three key parts to it generally.  This is very general so ask for detail on any part.  The first is technical seo, making sure your site can be found by search engines like google. Ria has mentioned that.  To that end the below technical site audit guide from moz is a gem. Lets you tick off where you are at.  A website checklist!  Two items I would immediately look at are "mobile optimization" & "home page loading speed".

Hi agree there is no right answer - but we need a starting point, and the below works very well for us.

We target 1 keyword per page, however, expand on same for context to the main keyword.  So let's say someone makes a blog on "I can't sleep".  We would target  "cant sleep" -  as the head term as in Australia that has circa 1900 searches a month.  "Ï cant sleep" is 590 per month.  So in this instance, we would recommend the URL for the content www.website.com.au/cant-sleep

H1

H2 (Not overly necessary, but if we can squeeze it in)

This is a rare term where the grammar is not ideal. But that is what we would recommend consistent with customer queries. One keyword per page gives you a starting point, then as the page is crawled by google webmaster lets you do a deeper dive into what it perceives the page should rank for.

Adjust accordingly and deliver what the customer wants.

Had a very quick look.  There is plenty to do.  I have not looked from a technical side - Moz should do that for you, highlight deficiencies. I would suggest a keyword review.  ie you are not on the first page in the US according to Semrush for your prime keyword phrases - volunteer thailand etc.  So I would undertake a keyword analysis identify what you want - if that is it.

Also is Thailand as a volunteer destination this year as popular as it was a few years ago?  Anyway you should focus on improving your ranking regardless.

So without doing much more work, as the keyword research is an internal - cant really assist - i would review you Title and H1 tags.  Not sure I would start with affordable for your title & use the word experience. "Volunteering in Thailand" - maybe the optimum way but as said. There are 1000 things you could do, but in short i would start with keyword research in your instance, assume moz has crawled your site and you are addressing those issues.

Then build a strategy from there.

There are a few tools, the best I find is www.similarweb.com

Similarweb provides referral traffic volume and gives a % outcome on traffic. It is not in direct reference to specific links but to domains.

The above two answers likely have it covered - on the off chance have you checked their referring domains - could they have bought a domain that ranked for those keywords and then done a 301 re-direct. Somehow the devaluation for relevance has been missed by google.

I have similar sites I have reviewed.  It comes down to the - exact marching url.  Plus the space has to be not overly competitive. No doubt there is 600 other factors but the dominant standout is the url. Ironically once there tough to dislodge, unless the site dislodging is 10 x 's better - cannot be just twice as good... .

As per Yoseprgr the first option. Re-direct chains negatively impact on page speed and crawlability.  Hence the one chain re-direct is optimum. Google published a video - think Matt Cutts stating - they do not crawl after 4-5 redirects.  SO taking into account loss of link equity, google recommendations and speed impact - the direct link is optimum.

Do not pay them. I have dealt with several of these companies on behalf of clients.  In Australia they lock you into a 12 month contract.  The fact is at law they have an obligation to provide a product fit for service - and they are not doing that. In fact from reading the blog only it seems they could be doing long term harm typical type operators.

Send them an email along the lines

"As you are appreciate various promises were made to increase site rankings using white hat practices.

Can you please detail exactly what you have done for the money paid to date. No further payments will be made and this contract ceases immediately if not done forthwith.

I have had several SEO experts review the website and the site now has a number of spammy bad links pointed at it.  This is considered black hat practices and is rejected as a sub-standard practice by google webmaster.

I await for your response. If I do not get a detailed report within 7 days I will assume that the contract is repudiated.

I reserve my legal rights in relation to the damage occasioned to the business in relation to the spammy links"

Is the site www.PhysicalTherapyFortMyers.com currently ranking for terms you want to rank for?  When you say rename your site are we talking changing a title tag or a new url?  Clarify and will revert..

If using symbols I would have think not. My experience is google discounts common symbols. However if it is written yes, I believe it would have an impact. That is something google would take into account.

In fairness I would think people would type in "weather Melbourne tomorrow" or "weather this weekend" - So I would think the most relevant aspect for SEO is dealing with those keywords... and serving up content that answers those queries.

It appears the site has been impacted up by the medic update on 5 August 2018.  Review data and check when the decline spiral started.

In answer to your query Schema has a massive impact on some sites, not sure where your site fits into the schema discussion - but properly executed in the correct circumstance schema is only beneficial. It would have to be a technical audit on why the wrong pricing.. as a .com.au with an Australian based platform.. should be coming up in AUD..

Favicons have become increasingly complex.  Browsers store them, they come to be differentiated by the implementation of the schema etc.. ie we have one client who is using 6 favicons off the same website.

So to answer properly someone has to do a technical dive.

To assist each operating system has different favicon requirements - so in your instance would look at how many variations of the favicon you have.  ie

• favicon.ico with 16×16, 32×32 icon sizes
• favicon-16x16.png: Modern equivalent of original ICO format
• favicon-32x32.png: Safari
• apple-touch-icon-180.png: Apple touch icon
• icon-192.png: Chrome/Android
• safari-pinned-tab.svg: Safari pinned tab SVG
• mstile-150x150.png: MS tile

I have done it for an ecommerce site and I found there was no simple solution.  Be great to hear if there is one.

I chose or knew the keywords then went to google translate. Then put those keywords into various tools to see how they extrapolated out.  ie Adwords keyword tool.  I also used semrush.  Also put some onus on keywords on the client.

Because I was also terrified that the translate and then "my combination" might not means what I hope it to mean I then got it reviewed by a native speaker.  Great learning curve.  That was where I learnt the most from speaking to a local. There is heightened risk not speaking to a someone fluent - so I would not recommend publishing without doing that.

After that it is a process - move back to the re-fining the standard and arduous practices we already know about in keyword research. I was chasing simple clothing keywords and then fortunately the retailer was opening shops which made the job easy.

Very good question. It is ultimately a matter for yourself. I always take the primary keyword head on - even if there is no realistic chance of ranking for it in the short term.  However I also make sure that I target keywords off the same branch that I can rank for.  I usually start with 5-7.

I believe you should always have your eye on the ultimate prize. Ubersuggest is good I also like Semrush.com - as you also get to see what organic keywords your competitors are getting traffic from.  Semrush may further fine tune the keywords you target.

On a nexus between primary and secondary - if you are targeting "dell computers" and words around that frame - once you get some traction with your other keywords then you may start to rank for "dell computers" but at 300 etc. . In fairness though it is impossible for anyone to suggest a true nexus as it will all depend on your seo optimization and the keywords you initially target and what you actually publish/do.
