I'm not sure if they are actually having a negative effect if they no longer exist. However, to be sure you can log into your Google Search Console an use the disavow links tool. That's a pretty general question and the answer is certainly more complicated than a yes or no. Here are some things to consider.

You need to look at why  you aren't you ranking for those keywords? Have the pages been indexed and are they showing up in the serps at all? If not, that's possibly a different problem. If they are showing up and they are competitive keywords it may be that you need to do more work to rank them higher.

As for changing keywords, that may be of little help depending on the answers to the first part. Certainly there are keywords that are easier to rank for, but only if you're doing the right things to get them ranked. The Keyword Explorer tool at Moz (https://moz.com/explorer) is a great place to start if you want to assess different keywords.

I wouldn't being to guess the % needed, but I can tell you one way that we try to get around the issue with similar products. We added a "short description" section with bullet points to highlight all the questions people might ask about the product and in there we are very specific about color, shape, flavor etc. When we have similar products (say different flavored gummi bears) we list both basic facts about the product that are all the same (i.e. size, how many per bag) as well as listing the other attributes that are unique to that product (i.e. banana flavored, yellow colored) and that seems to be enough to keep us from a duplicate content penalty. It's also nice because it cuts down customer questions.

We used Addthis for a while as well, but had the same issue. At times it really slowed our page load. We wound up doing what others have suggested, manually coding in the share links.As for recommended products, we now use an extension which does a great job.

I am thinking that maybe it's the list that appears on  your dashboard when you click search then scroll down a bit and there you will find "keyword opportunities"

It may not be an issue, but be sure to keep checking Webmaster tools and if needed you might have to disavow those links.

Hi all-

We recently had some pictures show up on our local profile that are not our store. When you click on them they have links to someone's blog as well. Can someone tell me how these got here and more importantly how to get rid of them. We've looked everywhere but can't find them to get rid of.

Have there been any updates to this? We have been using  cloudlfare for probably a year and all of a sudden I am getting the 804 errors on our SSL.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have an alert set up for your site and Google is sending you messages about your ndw product it simply means that Google  has found the page, which is a good thing. What is your concern?

I think you are correct in that you need to do a 301 redirect from the old site to the new one. If the pages are the same between the two domains I believe something like the following in your htaccess would work:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

I am not an htaccess expert, so try before you buy!Good luckKen

That is exactly the problem we had. Cloudflare helped with that as well as blocking  the ips with our old webhost.

Also, make sure that you disavow the links from those domains in webmaster tools as well.

We had a similar situation which got even worse when someone initiated a DDOS attack on our site from out of the country. Since then we have used cloudflare.com and things have been a lot better.

Thanks for a great explanation,I agree with Jordan that checking competitors trends was a great addition. We saw a small drop is DA and I was at first concerned,but then noticed we did fine relative to our competitors. Thanks Kyle

I can't speak to  Trustpilot in particular, but we have had good success with a different review provider, Yotpo. It has given a bit of lift to our conversion rate, plus we have picked up some business directly from people returning to the site from their reviews.

The rating show up in the organic listings for most items and  the reviews show up on the Adwords ratings along with our Google Trusted Stores reviews (I know you're not using Adwords, but thought I would let people know).

One of the features I really like is that most people can just reply to an email to send in the review, which I suspect leads to higher review rates.

If the page content is the same is the url structure is the same, I don't suspect you'll see too much, if any, damage. You might even do better because you went responsive.  Just be careful to make sure of things like placement of the title tag, etc, and your stylings (H1, etc) are similar to where they were before.

Hi all-

Lately on Google I've seen a few results where there is something stuck between the ads and the organic listings that I can only describe as as mini knowledge graph of sorts. (picture attached).

Can anyone point me to more information on this and how Google may be choosing these.

It seems to me as long as there is other content on the page, you should be fine. If this is, for example a product, it's quite normal to have the product name as the url and to have the name as the image name (and alt tag). You would still have a bunch of content on the page (product description, etc) in addition to that so it wouldn't be considered spammy
