What's the best SEO book to study?
Yes, but a lot of the topics discussed are still key concepts. The fundamentals of SEO haven't really changed, just the means of achieving optimization has. On Page SEO is still extremely important along with the creation of quality content, and quality links. Even though the book is dated, you can still learn a lot from it. The industry is also constantly changing, which is why, in my second response, I recommended to subscribe to some of the prominent SEO Blogs' RSS Feeds.

What's the best RSS Feed Pluggin for Wordpress?
I actually just looked at the same problem yesterday. I personally used feedburner. It is a google product first off, which just makes things simpler. Personally, I am a big fan of Google Reader, so it has really easy integration of these things. As far as a plugin, I used FeedBurner FeedSmith to plugin to my website.

Is Yahoo Directory worth $300?
From an SEO standpoint is the link from Yahoo Directory the same as a link from anywhere else with the *.yahoo.com domain or does being in the directory itself specifically give you a boost from search engines?

Warrior Forum, Is it good for seo?
Agreed with everyone above. I started there as well and got fed up with the "overnight results, push-button easy!". There are some smart people with good stuff on there, but too much to wade through to find it. Your time is much better spent on SEOmoz, in my opinion

Internal links in blog posts?
As far as SEO is concerned, the reason for linking to other pages is to help pass the "Google juice" or ranking influence of each page along to other related pages on your website. Using keyword-appropriate anchor text in those links helps the search engines understand what those other pages are valuable for. So don't repeatedly link with "click here". But don't always link to a page with the same anchor text either. As the latest Penguin update has shown, anchor text that is always the same is unlikely to have occurred naturally and will look spammy. The reason you don't need to link to the homepage in the body of a post is simple math - your homepage likely already has the most incoming links anyway - it's the other pages that need all the help they can get. (Plus as others have mentioned and you confirmed, you already have a link to that home page in your page's navigation.) But here's the real kicker - the reason for putting links in the body of your posts should be to provide value to the reader, first and foremost. If you keep this in mind, you'll probably take care of the SEO needs automatically - and naturally! As theBrewRoom says, link to things that would help the reader of the current post better understand what you're talking about, and use anchor text that will let the reader know what to expect when he gets there. Last thing to think about - ideally you want a page to have as few links as will get the job done effectively. The more links on a page, the less ranking influence each one can pass along. So don't flood your pages with links thinking that will help even more other pages rank better. And there again - what's best for the user is also good SEO - a page jammed with links will just confuse a user and look cluttered, while not helping your SEO. Think "user first" and you'll almost never go wrong. Good luck & have fun figuring out what good pages to link to! Paul

Weebly, Blogger, Wordpress and tumblr?
I personally use Tumblr quite heavily to promote my photography aransphotography.tumblr.com, not so much for link building but there is a huge amount of traffic flowing through that site and its great to divert some of that traffic to my flickr or my own website. Also, if people chose to re-blog my stuff then I get some free links as a bonus, link juice or not! In short my tumblr is part of my social outreach and inbound marketing strategy rather than my link development plans. I do not use wordpress, blogger or Weebly personally, but I do have links on other peoples blogs from there that do me no harm!

Canonical or 301 redirect, that is the question?
No problem! I'm curious what solution you are planning to choose and of course, if it helped you rank higher.. although that sort of data will only be available in a couple of months of course.

How to launch a Google + Campaign?
Hey Joel, Although I didn’t have a firsthand experience but I think I can pass my suggestions to you that sounds very actionable… Targets: target is to get targeted audience to signup and then +1 your page Target Audience: I am not sure about your target audience but let’s say age group between 25 to 35 years of people is your target audience. How to go! Do not just ask them to like the page or add you in circle but instead engage with them in such a way that they get encouraged a get signed up to Google+ and like your page. For example: Offer your audience an amazing discount or surprise gift on buying over $150.. this is common but you have to make it different by offering this offer to Google+ users only. Tell them that if you want to avail the offer you have to be a Google+ user and should added your business in the circle.. this way targeted people will add you in circles… this will attract the people who are not on Google+ and will encourage them to join Google+ +1 your page and avail the discount. (This is just a rough idea but brainstorming different ideas will make you come up to a good idea that will surly like by your people). Best of luck!

Bing SEO?
Hi Joel, Great question. In general, Bing is similar to Google in it's ranking factors, but there are a few differences. For most webmasters, they are similar enough that best practices for one will generally produce favorable results with the other, but it's not a one to one relationship. For example Creating High Quality Content Relevant, editorial backlinks Strong Social Signals ...all help improve your ranking with both engines. Like GIGS20 mentioned, domain age seems to be a bigger factor in Bing's algorythm. It often takes longer for sites to rank on Bing than Google, all other factors being equal. For what it's worth, Tim Grice (aka SEOwizz) notes that Bing seems to prefer links from pages that contain keywords in the title tag. You can read his analysis here: http://www.seowizz.net/2009/06/bing-seo-how-does-it-differ-to-google.html As far as Bing is concerned, I'd make sure you're following best practices, like making sure you've registered with Webmaster Tools and making sure your site is indexed, etc. Then work on making your site the best it can be in the eyes of all search engines and you'll be just fine.

Self hosted or YouTube Hosted Videos for SEO?
I think it's best to use YouTube or another video host versus having the videos on your site. And, then be sure to send the SE's a video sitemap. Here's a pretty good write up: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/video-sitemap-guide-for-vimeo-and-youtube

Keyword Targeting Best Practices??
**How to develop your ****_1-true-keyword _**into a topical theme: Determine your primary keyword(s) - 1-10 terms that you think describe your site well. List acronyms & jargon related to your primary keyword(s). List synonyms, plurals, and related phrases. Start adding modifiers to the set of words you've grown. Repeat the process with each "categorical topical theme" your site is about. Now you've developed a long list of targets, and it's time to prioritize. Do your research. Get data on the search volume for each keyword in your list. Determine searcher intent. Figure out if you have existing resources available to serve up for each keyword in your list. Go Pro at SEOmoz, and record each keyword's keyword difficulty score. Average out the ranking domain and page authority of the top 3-5 sites for each term you're targeting to better understand your playing field. With this data, you can now make educated decisions about which keywords from your set to target first. You can evaluate which keywords might be the least difficult to rank for, and which might be the most rewarding to rank for, and make decisions that will truly optimize your search engine marketing efforts. _ http://www.quora.com/Is-it-better-to-target-one-keyword-at-a-time-for-SEO-or-two+_ If you're localizing your keyword list, you can use a spreadsheet program like Excel or OpenOffice, or use online tools to append local terms (like area codes and city names) to your primary keywords list: Local Marketing Source developed this useful local keyword research tool which appends local search terms to your list of primary keywords. 5Minutes has a very useful tool for generating and appending local search terms to your targeted general keyword list as well. let+the+wookie+win.jpg

Javascript, PhP and SEO Impact?
Alan's answer is spot on. Avoid javaScript or carefully follow best-practices so Google can crawl all content without reading javaScript. Alan is exactly right when he said: never count on Google crawling through your JavaScript to find content, but also never count on being able to hide anything from Google via JavaScript. Whether you use PHP or not is not directly relevant. PHP is executed server-side, so Google never sees your PHP code and doesn't care. What matters is whether your programmer writes PHP code that will generate search friendly HTML code, url structure, etc.

Infographic for SEO
I would outsource it to a pro - but you don't necessarily need to pay a fortune, our agency offers infographic design, research and promotion for around $1,000 and we work with some of the biggest agencies and brands in the world (including Yoast, AOL, European Commission, PayPal, Ford, Experian, Orange, etc. etc). With that said it's perfectly acceptable to design one yourself, just make sure you put in the proper time, care and effort and that you promote it as hard as you can. Not only do infographics act as fantastic link bait, but they can facilitate some incredibly strong links via guest blogging - you'd be amazed at the strength of some of the links you can gain if you offer someone an exclusive, well design and well thought out infographic. Thanks for linking to my post Keri - hopefully that will be of some use to you Joel : )
