Domain Mapping, WordPress MultiSite
Hi Joel, If the domains are separate and the multi site and mapping is all set up correctly (it can be a bit tricky) then google will see the sites as different domains and as far as that goes will treat them all as regular websites. No reason for a negative impact at a technical level there. As to if there are indicators that these sites are related, yes there are as you mention shared ips and c blocks and if the front end code is substantially the same then this is identifiable also, but they will still be treated as separate domains. As long as your content for each domain is strong and unique you shouldn't have a problem.

Contact form on home page.
If you don't mind doing a little coding you could try this simple contact form http://css-tricks.com/nice-and-simple-contact-form/ There are other options out there for a full blown contact form from MailChimp et al, although many seem to be trying to get money for what is essentially a really basic thing. Mail Chimp or Constant Contact is good if all you want is basic email capture, with Mail Chimp offering free services under 2000 subscribers, although it does include a mail chimp link or small logo. If you Google "html contact form" you'll get lots of options. Personally I would go with Chris Coyier's option above and include his spam options. If you dont need to change from html to php I would'nt do it. 301s are great but when I changed a site from html with a 301 it didnt pass all the link juice and there was a slight drop in traffic, plus it stop you needlessly complicating it. If you need help in setting it up let me know

Page Content
There is no formula of winning! I am working for a real estate industry and can tell you the fact that quality of content impact the most when it comes to rankings for long tail keywords. I think a content between 500 to 1500 words are fine but if you are going to make it too long without any good level of interaction for readers (i.e images and videos) then i personally don't think it will help you increase rankings and traffic.

Website Design Structure
Responsive. But... I prefer a server AND client approach. Pure media query techniques result in really heavy pages that make too many design compromises. I use server side client capabilities tables to narrow the range of stuff different clients get. However they all use the same URL.

Local SEO
Hi Joel, Bede has provided a terrific answer. I will only add that most Local SEOs I know agree that there is no replacement for manual citation building, because of the benefit of having total control over the whole process yourself. The main benefit of Yext is that they allow you to manage many citations in one place (a nice feature) but there have been some questions in the Local SEO community about the tool's ability to recognize problematic duplicate listings (see:http://www.ngsmarketing.com/why-yext-might-not-be-the-best-fit-for-your-business/) and as citation experts like Darren Shaw of Whitespark have proved, you can typically build many more citations than are covered by Yext's tool. Darren's tool is here: https://www.whitespark.ca/local-citation-finder/ If you don't want to go with doing it yourself or using an automated tool, the third alternative is to hire a citation builder. I believe both Nyagoslav Zhekov (NGSmarketing, linked to above) and Darren Shaw's company do this. Both gentlemen are highly regarded. So, that's a third option.

Page Speed & SERPS
Hi, All the answers are just amazing! I just want to share my 2 cents on this topic. If both sites have the same link juice, age, content quality, location and citations and only the load speed is different, I believe the site that loads faster will rank better. In one of Google Webmasters Blog article, they mentioned that they are obsessed with load speed and do use Site Load Speed as a signal in their search ranking algorithms. It may not weight heavily compared to other signals but for 2 virtual identical sites, the one that loads faster wins. Furthermore, as Darin mentioned, if your site loads faster then Google will also be able to crawl more of your pages, if more pages are crawled, then more of your pages will have the chance of appearing on the search engine result page. Also quoting from Google Webmaster Blog: "We encourage you to start looking at your site's speed (the tools above provide a great starting point) — not only to improve your ranking in search engines, but also to improve everyone's experience on the Internet."

H1 Tags and HTML5
Hi Joel, According to Matt Cutts, Google doesn't penalize sites just for having multiple H1 tags, see: link In my opinion they crawlers/indexers can be set to detect overuse of H2 tags and it is possible that Google can penalize for that. From usability point of view and good structured content I fully agree with Matthew. And from SEO perspective ... how can you tell crawler bots what is most important on your page? Consistency of main factors: meta title - meta description - keyword - title (H1) - content structure an so on is crucial for your page. Marek

Time On Site and SEO?
_However, it makes sense to try to increase average time users spent on website. If a user spends more time on a page that simply means that the visitor is finding the page interesting. Catchy headlines, well written content, use of high quality images, videos etc can go a long way to make visitors spend a few more seconds on the page. On the other hand, if you make the body content appear meaningless by stuffing too many keywords, add cheesy stock images or boring images, add thin content and make the page heavy with loads of images, visitors will bounce back for certain. Hope that helps. _

2012 vs 2013 SEO
Have you tried Google image search ? Just upload one image then you will get all results where that image is used. I think its going to play good role seo but I don't know how ? Let me guess : I think if we have same profile picture then it will going to help more because Google can able to recognize those profiles. I am not sure.

CSS vs Javascript vs JQuery drop down navigation
You can't go wrong with CSS. Endless styling possibilities. Also, I'd stay away from javascript because it's executed in order on the page. Meaning, if the JS doesn't load properly in the menu, the remaining JS below it wont load either.

Site Transfer and Downtime
In addition to what has been said, I think you also need to understand how it all works for you to make the best decision. It is all about DNS propogation, it is the time taken to update all the servers around the web with the new IP to point to when one looks for your domain name. Now yourdomain.com points to 195.81.76.22 and you want to move it to 156.22.101.85 (examples only) While the update is propagating, some visitors will get the old IP (website on yahoo) and others will get the updated one (on the other host) so there is no downtime. The issue is with dynamic sites (forums, blogs...) you might get data (comments, posts...) that will be made to the version on Yahoo and will be lost once everyone goes to the new host. I your website is static, just go ahead and move your files and update your DNS records and don't worry about anything else. If your website is dynamic, then you should copy the data at a given time and either : block the old website from getting comments/posts/entries... copy the data manually from the database once all DNS have been updated (hard to do) accept to lose some infos Hope that helps

How important is having a 301 redirect?
I took a look at bronxpad.com in opensiteexloreer.org. If this is the website you are referring to, when you implement these 301 redirects make sure you also redirect bronxpad.com/index.html and www.bronxpad.com/index.html to www.bronxpad.com, for the same reason as the non-www to the www.

Shared Hosting Vs VPS Hosting
What is the site built on? If wordpress, check out wpengine (no affiliation). Just saw this post and wanted to respond as I had tons of downtime when I migrated a site to a shared environment on another host. Site kept having downtime no matter what I tried with support. So you can imagine the frustration and how this can impact the business not just from a search perspective. I think the question here is how stable do you need something. Does shared work? Yea sure. But if you are putting something that is the core of your business on a $4.95mth host, than you get $4.95 worth of insurance.
