Hi. I'm looking at ways to compare duplicate content across two different websites instead of one, as with the Moz crawler. Instead it will flag up up duplicates present on both site A and B.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I did think of Screaming Frog, but the problem is that it only records the instances of custom parameters, not the contents. I tweeted the SF team to check and they said it wasn't possible too. I've also tried InSite Inspyder too but tat doesn't do it either.

Hi all! I'm currently working on a migration for a large e-commerce site. The old one has around 2.5k urls, the new one 7.5k. I now need to sort out the redirects from one to the other.

This is proving pretty tricky, as the URL structure has changed site wide. There doesn't seem to be any consistent rules either so using regex doesn't really work.

By and large, the copy appears to be the same though. Does anybody know of a tool I can crawl the sites with that will export the crawled url and related copy into a spreadsheet? That way I can crawl both sites and compare the copy to match them up.

Hi all. I'm working on this page - http://www.alwayshobbies.com/dolls-houses - for the term 'dolls houses'. It's not doing great at the minute (23rd in GUK) and I was wondering if it might be down to the volume of exact match keywords on the page (32).

If not, does anyone have any other pointers?

Hi all. I've been checking out http://www.unthankbooks.com/ as it seems to have some indexing problems. I ran a server header check, and got a 200 response. However, it also shows the following:

X-Robots-Tag:
noindex, nofollow

It's not in the page HTML though. Could it be being picked up from somewhere else?

Hi everybody. Bit of an interesting question.

I have a client that wants to have the following pages on their site indexed:

example.fr/home.html on Google.fr for users based in France
example.com/fr/home.html on Google.com for users not based in France.

So they wish to have both pages indexed in the end but not displayed to the same geographic users.

Not entirely sure the best way to go about this, so any tips would be much appreciated!

Ah yes. I didn't check as some author pages are indexed. Eg http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/author/heydon-pickering/.

Hi! Bit of an odd one, but I thought I's ask. Recently I wrote an article for Smashing Mag. It's was a great success and not really an SEO exercise at all, but after several weeks my author page hasn't been indexed (http://www.smashingmagazine.com/author/sam-wright/?rel=author). I just assumed give the quality of the site that it wouldn't take that long.

I know it's just a case of leaving it, by any thoughts on why its not been picked up?

This got me thinking. As it is quite a low competition term, and I have control over a few of its inbound links, would it be easier to move to a new domain and start again? That is, no 301, just move the site and update it in WMT?

Until several months ago, it ranked really well for the terms 'Anglian windows' and 'Anglian windows reviews'. However, following a Google update it tanked and has got worse ever since. Here's what I've done to try and fix it.

Added 800 words of unique copy

Added YouTube videos

Replaced scraped press releases with unique descriptions that link to the source

Analysed the backlink profile and uploaded a disavow file containing all bad links

Contacted webmaster to remove them where possible

Getting a bit low on ideas now, so any help would be great!

Below is my original message. Afterwards, I've added some update info.

For a while, we've been working on http://thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/. Everything was going swimmingly, and we had a top 5 ranking for the term 'bird hides' for this page - http://thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/products/bird-hides.

Then disaster struck! The client added a link with a faulty parameter in the Joomla back end that caused a bunch of duplicate content issues. Before this happened, all the site's 19 pages were indexed. Now it's just a handful, including the faulty URL (thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/index.php?id=13‎)

This shows the issue pretty clearly.

UPDATE

OK, since then I've blocked the faulty parameter in the robots.txt file. Now that page has disappeared, but the right one - http://thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/products/bird-hides - has not been indexed. It's been like this for several week.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Hi all. We've been approached by a client in the online gambling sector about white hat link building. Much of our focus is on guest blogging, but most sites have a no gambling policy. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for link building ethically for tricky niches.

Thanks, this is what I seem to be coming round to. I'm VARY wary about doing too many redirects though as in my experience it's a quick way to ruin perfectly good rankings. I'm thinking loads more cross linking would help, and we'll probably start with a 'related products' section on each page.

Do you know, it might be internal linking! That's one thing I've definitely not checked. Ran a crawl just now, and it only has two links. Its competitors have loads more.

Hi everybody. We've been working with http://www.lawnmowersdirect.co.uk/ for some time now. Rankings for broad terms such as 'lawn mowers' and 'lawnmowers' are superb, and we're pretty happy.

Bizarrely though, rankings for products are very poor. For example this page - http://www.lawnmowersdirect.co.uk/product/honda-hrg465sd - is currently 17th for 'Honda HRG465SD IZY'.

We've done lots of work onsite, clearing up duplicate content, improving copy and tidying up URLs. However, none of this seems to have had a major impact on the product pages. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
