I have NOINDEX, FOLLOW - it's to address the duplicate content and low content pages so that Google does not include them - some of the pages we are making a lot of content for.

My question really pertains to, if the bots see a site with a lot of NOINDEX, FOLLOW will they be worried that this site is overall low content??

Our site is in English, Spanish, Danish and Russian - the URL's are individual to the language they are in, but of course, Russian contains some strange characters so I decided not to use them in the URL's

Any advice on how to create the URL's for russian language pages?

Hi,

Our magento store has a lot of duplicate content issues - after trying various configurations with canonicals, robots, we decided it best and easier to manage to implement Meta NOINDEX tags to the pages that we wish the search engines to ignore.

There are about 10000 URL's in our site that can be crawled - 6000 are Meta No Index - and 3000 odd are index follow.

There is a high proportion of Meta No Index tags - can that harm our SEO efforts?

Hi,

If your business name contains keywords, is that an issue? Some companies, have keyword based brand names...

So what is Google's policy regarding EMD or PMD? What happens when the company name has a keyword in it?

If anyone could help clarify, I would appreciate it.

I am experiencing 2 issues with the Duplicate Page Content in Moz.

1. Every week it is notifying me of new duplicate content - so it seems to be missing duplicate content each week and the crawl is never above the 5000-6000 page mark, which means that it is under 10K which is the limit, so presumably everything is crawled in that one go so surely it should detect all of the dupe content on 1 crawl as opposed to having to do various crawls to detect it no?

2. The dupe content report shows me pages that indeed have duplicate content but after checking, these are ranking on Google for their terms... ?

3. Is the duplicate page content report incremental ? Will it add more duplicate content and increase the report every week or does it just show that week's results? If so, it's a bit like chasing my tail...

If I do a search in Google - for one our products on our site, our site comes up - but it would appear that google is adding our domain name as a suffix to our title in the results...

Anyone else seen this? Can I do anything about it? I would prefer it not to appear.

Just wondering should part of my regular activities include sharing certain URL's to these social networks?

Presumably it requires constantly mentioning random pages as part of an ongoing nature...

If we highlight products on homepage, they rank better as they are linked to from the homepage - we cannot increase the amount of products or links on homepage for dilution reasons.

So, if we change the products on homepage for some others, presumably those will get the link juice benefit?

I think what I am asking is, is there any "longevity" once the product has been removed from the homepage as a link - will it lose it's "priority value" or will it retain some of it's importance after the homepage link has been removed?

If that is the case, I could circulate my products via homepage over a course of time to help them all get some benefit no?

So recently we decided to change the URL structure of our online e-commerce catalogue - to make it easier to maintain in the future.

But since the change, we have (partially expected) +30K 404's in GWT - when we did the change, I was doing 301 redirects from our Apache server logs but it's just escalated.

Should I be concerned of "plugging" these 404's, by either removing them via URL removal tool or carry on doing 301 redirections? It's quite labour intensive - no incoming links to most of these URL's, so is there any point?

Thanks for that - I think what I am trying to do is somehow cut the linkjuice dilution - my DA is weak and the mega menu contains around 150 links with all the cats / subcats... so my link juice is diluted all over the place.

We have 1750 products but only 50 hits per day -

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I am trying to make our site more crawlable and get link juice to the "bottom pages" in an ecommerce site.

Currently, our site has a big mega menu - and we have:

Home >

CAT 1
            SUBCAT 1
                  SUBSUBCAT 1
                            PRODUCT

Our URL Structure looks:
www.domain.com/cat1/subcat1/subsubcat1/ and here are the links to the products but the URL's look like: www.domain.com/product.html

Obviously the ideal thing would be to cut out one of the CATEGORIES. But I may be unable to do that in the short term - so I was wondering if by taking CAT1 out of the equation - e.g., just make it a static item that allows the drop down menu to work, but no page for it -

Does that cut out a level?

Has anyone used Netpeak? I found it quite useful to retrieve the "Google Cache Date" as that way I know how often Google is assessing our pages.

But of course, repetitive requests makes Google block IP's - Ive tried using a proxy service, but still no go.

Can I achieve the same using Google Spreadsheets / XPATH ?

Any ideas or advice?

I am managing the tech and SEO for an ecommerce site with a big mega menu with over 140 cats/subcats and well, I know that my link juice is diluted and am thinking of cutting back on the categories but in the meantime.

Is there a link juice visualizer? How can I see in a visual format how linkjuice is flowing through the site?

We have adopted most of those strategies but obviously we are correcting past mistakes so playing catch up.

I am just wondering if it's worth moving to a new domain to try and start from scratch as our traffic does seem really low still and I have a sneaky feeling we are still in a penalty with Google.

I think since the start of the site being online there has always been dupe content and thin content - it's an ecommerce store -

So, manufacturer descriptions have been copied etc...

So I think we never have really experience good traffic - site has 2000 products and we only get 70 hits a day or so.

So I think we have been stuck in a penalty since the start - so checking the graph will not necessarily gleam any positive results because there has been no major traffic surges or decreases - just a plodding along

any suggestions?
