Thanks for this. Yes I've checked in Google Console, I can find the page in indexed pages but the indexed pages are a lot less since migration:

HTTP - indexed 13013, blocked 12,891

HTTPS - indexed - 2814 / blocked robots.txt 5713

Do I just wait?

One keyword example for that page would be #Heavy Duty Dolly' & 'load moving dolly'

Were position 1 now out of top 100.

We're working on page speed/load time for the whole site, but why would it affect that one page so badly?

I have dropped out for all my first page KWDs for this page

We updated to HTTPs last week, we haven't had any major issues and most categories on the site are OK, apart from one.

We have completely dropped out of ranking in Google at all for our Dollies section: https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/dollies-load-movers-door-skates

We've always ranked well on the first page for a number of keywords, now we're out of the top 100 - I am trying to hunt for an issue but I can't seem to find one.

Can anyone advise?

I am checking the H2 tags on this page https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/dollies-load-movers-door-skates

I have noticed my dev team have implemented H2's on the categories in the menu. Will this completely confuse Google as to what that page is about?

In my opinion those links shouldn't be heading tags at all

The https migration will have the same URLS but I'm trying to tidy up the redirects we currently have

So each time a title is updated on the site, a new redirect is added to the database but the others are not removed.

Shall I just delete from the database? I just want to make sure I'm not deleting those old URLs with authority in the chain

I think each time they get a redirect request they just update all the existing URLs in the file.

My question is which ones do I delete? I need to update the first URL & the last & remove the middle but from the file I can't determine which URL was first in the chain...

Yes, I am just trying to work out how our dev team manage the redirects.

I'm not sure whether they actually go through a redirect chain.. this is an example of the data pulled from the redirect export:

• sloping-top-for-ekwo-industrial-1-tier-lockers redirect > sloping-top-for-manutan-industrial-lockers

• sloping-top-for-industrial-1-tier-lockers redirect > sloping-top-for-manutan-industrial-lockers

• sloping-top-for-industrial-lockers redirect > sloping-top-for-manutan-industrial-lockers

We're moving to https imminently & I wondered if anyone has advice on redirects.

Obviously we'll be redirecting all http versions to https - but should I be checking how many redirects are in each chain and amending accordingly?

If there's 4-5 in a chain, remove the middle unnecessary URLS ?

We are changing the structure of 2 areas of our site but the URL's won't be changing.

We're effectively removing the first category level as it doesn't make much sense:

Current structure

Cat 1 - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/cupboards-lockers

Cat 2s - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/lockers & http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/cupboards

Cat 3s...

New structure will look like

Cat 1's http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/lockers & http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/cupboards

Cat 2's.... etc

The top category 1 doesn't rank for much & the level 2's perform better anyway. Will moving the structure change rankings even though the URLs don't change - just what is assigned to them in the back changes

I know if the on-page content changes, things may be affected, but we're minimising this as much as possible.

They are actually upgrading our platform in the next couple of months, so I will be pushing this.

Are there any areas (apart from TTFB) I should push? This is really not my area so I'm a bit lost with where to start.

I just read something which said - A “scheduler” directs Googlebot to crawl the URLs in the priority order, under the constraints of the crawl budget. URLs are being added to the list and prioritized.

So, if you have pages which havent been crawled/indexed as they're seen as a low priority for crawling - how can I improve or change this if need be?

Can I even impact it at all? Can I help crawlers be more efficient at finding/crawling pages I want to rank or not?

Does any of this even help SEO?

There are images which customers and Google can't see which aren't loading on the fetch & render - I want to find out why?
