Hi

I'm seeing a few category pages drop out of Google for certain keywords but not others, I'm trying to work out why & see if this correlates to a drop in conversion

Organic Traffic isnt down, but conversion is so I'm trying to identify where its coming from - a lot has come from the homepage, but we have also lost a lot of positions across the site.

has anyone noticed any google updates in Jan?

We've started to see steady drops in revenue since Jan 22nd each day & I can't seem to pinpoint why.

We aren't seeing a drop in traffic for those pages, but we have seen ranking drops in other areas.

The main revenue drops are coming from the homepage - it seems like a downwards trend - any ideas at how I can pinpoint the issue? https://www.key.co.uk/en/key

SEMRush is flagging these pages as having duplicate content, but we have rel = next etc implemented:

Or is it being flagged as they're just really similar pages?

I have worked on various different sites as an SEO, I have found that currently I don't have a list of influential bloggers/sites to contact in the niche I'm in. Where do I start?

Do I work on building this list or do I create the some content first, so I can propose a collaboration?

I know how long these relationships can take, so I don't want to hold up on producing content

I'm trying to look for ideas for content on office chairs. Any ideas on where to start with user intent for this type of search query? I'm using answer the public to gather some ideas.

Some are good ideas, but I can't actually find any search volume for the phrase so then I'm unsure whether to devote time to writing something.  Surely most people want to just find a supplier, buy the chair & they don't want a huge informational piece how to buy a chair.

Our competitors are the likes of amazon, and a load of other huge companies with high DA - so I'm looking at types of content we can write, people are interested in reading about chairs, which is less competitive..I'm not sure that exists...

Yes, I think this is our issue, we split our product pages to have 1 product per page (for most pages) due to the restrictions we had when displaying multiple products on one page.

The design wasn't very user friendly - but now the issue is multiple product pages focusing on the same keyword.

For your pages, do you focus pages with similar products on one/a few similar keywords?

Do you add written content directly to these pages or focus on creating good user guides etc then link back to these product pages?

As a business they've identified the core categories which attract loyal profitable customers and larger orders.

Our product pages do convert well - when they content/images are right, but I wanted to focus on some categories page to try and generate more traffic/visiibility for these areas.

Do you try to push product or category pages?

I find building links/writing content for one product difficult as a lot of our products focus on v. similar keywords so compete with one another.

As we have such an enormous product portfolio, it feels as though we don't get anywhere quick enough.

I was going to choose 2 core categories, pick 2 sub-categories from these and try to work here first so I have a specific focus.

Things move on so quickly, I find I never get something started properly before moving on.I'm trying to change this for 2018 and narrow my focus for SEO.

I'm trying to prioritise my tasks for 2018 & wondered if anyone had any useful templates they use?

In terms of SEO tasks, my priority was going to be content/outreach/links -

Focusing on user guides/blogs onsite

Then outreach articles/some PR that doesn't go against Google guidelines offsite.

My struggle with the onsite content/blogs we produce is we have no real social media plan/manager so my content outreach always seems hampered by this.

I've tried taking on some of the social stuff, but this ends up being too much for just me to do.

I wondered if there were any other SEOs who face this issue and who have found some good solutions?

I'm stuck in a bit of a rut and can't seem to effectively push forward with outreach/content writing.

We migrated to HTTPs in November - but we still aren't showing as Secure.

I thought it was due to there being an Insecure SHA-1 script in the SSlL Certificate, so am waiting to get this fixed.

We had a few http links outstanding so they have been updated, but we're still getting the issue.

so the linkable refers to things people link back to? What if those linkable pieces of content aren't directly profitable?

How important are anchor text links within your own site vs. buttons for SEO?

We've redesigned some of our pages from anchor text links to buttons which are just clickable images.I know historically this isn't the best way, but is it still as important as it used to be?

Thanks for your feedback, I have used Asana and I keep lists but I probably need to get better at consolidating the lists & organising them into sections like you said.

Things here can often be disorganised and something will drop in which is completely unplanned for.

How did you put together the projects/priorities matrix? We've started organising our teams tasks into whether they directly impact our KPI's & if not the tasks drop to the bottom.

We're just being pulled on by 2 different teams, their priorities and then ours & your feel like your priorities just slip way down.

I wanted some feedback on how other SEO's structure their time. I feel as though I'm falling into the trap of fire fighting with tasks rather than working on substantial projects... I don't feel as though I'm being as effective as I could be.

Here's our set up - Ecommerce site selling thousands of products - more of a generalist with 5 focus areas.

2 x product/merchandising teams - bring in new products, write content/merchandise products

Web team - me (SEO), Webmaster, Ecommcerce manager

Studio - Print/Email marketing/creative/photography.

A lot of my time is split between working for the product teams doing KWD research, briefing them on keywords to use, checking meta.

SEO Tasks - Site audits/craws, reporting

Blogs - I try and do a bit as I need it so much for SEO, so I've put a content/social plan together but getting a lot of things actioned is hard... I'm trying to coordinate this across teams

Inbetween all that, I don't have much time to work on things I know are crucial like a backlink/outreach plan, blog/user guide/content building etc.

How do you plan your time as an SEO? Big projects?

Soon I'm going to pull back from the product optimisation & try focussing on category pages, but for an Ecommerce site they are extremely difficulty to promote.

Just asking for opinions and advice
