HI Martijn, I used Screaming Frog and it finds the H1.   I tried moving my content around on my page putting the H1 at the very top and the IIS tool found it.  Sadly I can't really do that in production but at least I know what IIS dislikes. I suspect this is a bug in the IIS tool as it doesn't seem to bother Google.   Its tragedy that the IIS tool seems to be dying on the vine.

Thank you all for the responses... I found them all helpful.  I will look into creating my own sitemap with the IIS tool. I can't help the 70k pages but the URLS are totally static.  I guess I can make a site map for all the aspx pages and then other one for all the lowest level .html pages. Thanks everyone!

Hi Dana, First, thank you for your response!  I will change my image tags and add the canonical tag.  I seem to be getting 40 to 50 of these 404's a day and my traffic and rankings have fallen dramatically.   Scary stuff. Kind regards, Greg

If a page uses parameters to build the content say www.example.com/topic?page=1, www.example.com/topic?page=2 and so on, the URLs aren't the same, therefore each page will be indexed as a different page. Both options you mention will create a huge set of new pages, the query parameter one it's ok, but an URL that has text describing the content is more user friendly. Also, both methods could be used to develop it, using some ASP and URL rewriting it shouldn't be much different. I personally would go with an URL that describes the content, like: www.example.com/topic/subtopic

Yeah, it would be nice to find someone who can do both but maybe I should settle on finding a good SEO practitioner that can let me know what could be better...

Hi David, I did add ton of new web pages and because of those got those 404's.  I've since cleaned them all up.   i thought I had them cleaned up before the my traffic fell but there could be a lag there.  I am a little bummber my PR is 2...  pretty marginal improvement over 0. I will keep an eye on my traffic and hopefully it was the bad links. Thank you for the thoughful response!

ok... After some thought I have figured out a way to add these links and have it make sense.  At least it will be defensible. Thanks for your help.

Ok, I have done some serious testing on EMD's this year and have seen results such as country coded domains rank 1st page with 500 words of content and a social sharing tool to add with no link building. I have done a lot of research into more competitive search terms using the seomoz tool bar and have seen 100's of EMD's with low mozstats (DA:30) against the surrounding results with (DA:50/70). I've done the same sort of stuff with hyphened and other extensions and nothing comes anywhere near the true exact match. But thats just me and my findings.

First,  I appreciate all the responses and I will certainly take something from each of them.  Vahe touched on something that I thought I should do and now it's confirmed.   My national currency page sits on top of several sub pages but I don't have links to the sub pages from within that page.  I figured it was enough to have them on the menu.  But in the back of my mind I wondered if there was some SEO type reason to use a bunch of internal links to make the site more navigable and to pass link juice around. Thanks everyone who answered!

Thanks Megan, I figured it was something like that since the errors went away without any further action.  Thanks for putting the issue to rest for me. 

Don't forget you can add your sitemap to your google / bing etc webmasters accounts.

but of course it will index the page. and it has! as far as... will it find the page useful or therefore worthy is not up to Google but your visitors. To make the page rank you need to include links from other pages that will eventually land your visitors to this page. including call to action buttons etc. I would also suggest to add more content to give the page some density as well. hope this helped

Interestingly Majestic SEO Site Explorer shows no data from it's historic index, but shows 2 referring domains, 85 Backlinks from it's "fresh" index. Keep building the links!

Actually, there were recent adjustments to the SEOmoz page rank system to make it more reflective of where a page would actually be ranking in search results. Since the move was only ten percent, it was probably simply an adjustment based on that change. The change was explained in the following post on the 23rd of Nov. by Matt Peters Since you are seeing improvement, it shows that the change is based no changes in measurement by moz and not in search rankings or results. Rest easy, its all good.
