Hi,

On the 'Viper chill' blog (some may of heard of this blog) he talks about interlinking content in an attempt to build up link juice to get more from the content and pass more PR to the target website.

Here is the link to the post, a few scrolls down and your see a diagram.

I have also attached the image to this post, so we can discuss in more detail by referencing to it.

Now this guy knows what his talking about, lots of big players back him up, but does this method actually work better then having one link from each article pointing to the target website?

If an article links to another article surely the PR flows into other links on the page as well as your own down grading the power of it?

If the answer is yes, would this work for guest blogging?

I don't think you want to do a 301 redirect on all your links.

I'm guess joomla are not changing the url from one to another but doing a rewrite on the .html to the non .html.

How much is the link for the year again, from what I can remember about $299.

I think the $299 is better spent else where, if it costs you $20 for a article to be written I would produce 15 articles and either put them on your website or use them for guest blogging, I think this will give you a better return SEO wise then a Yahoo listing.

Like Rob said though, if your a large company with a big marketing budget, there is probably 4-5 directories they would signup with and just repeat the subscription year on year.

I personally would start by creating content which fulfils query questions, so if you run a website that sells football boots and you see from Google keyword tool that 'how to change football studs' gets 500 searches a month, create content that fills this, add lots of social sharing tools around the content and knock out 5-10 of these.

Then I would run ppc to these pages for the term which generates traffic and try and build up some social signals, I tend to shuffle the competition column to low and work my way up looking for a term which generates some search, your find its cheaper to bid on.

Some will disagree with this, this is just how I get things moving, after a little while I will start to guest post.

I don't think Rene is looking for shared hosting, his specified Bandwidth and uptime which indicates to me he is going to try and generate a lot of traffic to a the site so he needs the backup of bandwidth and uptime.

Basically he needs a dedicated server with burstable bandwidth with a hosting company that has 100% uptime.

Well,

fasthosts is a no go for certain, down time every month and that's not even scheduled.

hostinguk is good, I have not seen any downtime for years, CP is on plesk and I know you dont care about it but the support is UK based and these guys actually know what there talking about, sound like x-developers running it.

Rackspace - very good, they guarantee 100% uptime but every now and then when they do server updates they go down but they schedule it for unsociable hours and a email goes out way before.

Personally if your looking for uptime id say rackspace.

Maybe you got lucky Steve, because I have also used UK2.net and the support is zero, I have called them multiple times with no answer.

Maybe im wrong but that's just what I have experienced.

Ok, its been about 2 weeks, checked this morning and I have moved up 1 position and the blog site is now 1 position below me.

It wasnt a guest post on a blog in the same topic, it was a general blog which covers pretty much everything BUT the domain auth is so powerful (one of the reasons I selected them) and I think this combined with the content has put them there, the title tag of the blog post doesnt even target the term, if you take 3 of the words in a title which has 8 words it makes the term up.

The blog post has even bumped wiki.

Yeah it was relevant. So you could say relevance played apart but all of them had relevant content at the same quality.

I'm not saying  what im saying is fact just the results I got look like it might be a factor, there is quite a large gap between rankings and it goes in order of number of words.

Guess you could say more words more relevant.

Separate domains using same template with unique content straight out of word.

I didn't look into using the same keyword density as I just typed it up and added keyword terms where they looked natural.

I did add 500 words then a week later another 500 words then it jumped so my mistake there but the others had content added once before indexed and that was the result.

Just a few small things I have noticed which has made a difference in ranking, thought I would share, small things but every little helps.

Looks like more content on a page the better the ranking, in a test I have done this is what I found:

page with 0 content - Google page 11

page with 250 content - Google page 5

page with 500 content - Google page 2

page with 1000 content - Google page 1, position 3

Looks like Google might count the words on a page (like you can do in Microsoft word) and then apply a score against it.

Tweets and likes (78) showed a jump from page 1, position 8, to page 1, position 1 (this was the only form of link building and no changes made apart from adding the share plugin).

Kind of makes me think if your starting a new site or page then add 750 - 1000 words of good content (tutorial or whatever) with a social sharing tool and let this run will give you a better chance of ranking when you start to introduce products and services.

When I check my mozstats for the homepage it says the PA is 50 but the DA is 30, how can that be?

I would expect them to either be the same or at least the DA to be higher then the PA.

totally agree EGOL, but then your steping out of SEO and looking at UX Design - increasing CTR's with split testing etc.

No worries, im pretty sure my reply is what there on about when they say low hanging fruit, although Seb's reply are good things to check.

I will say paying for the membership on here will be a good thing for the company you work for to pay for.

You wont find a better bunch of SEO pros (who know what there talking about) then on here.

Few places I like to check out and use are: copyblogger, myblogguest, webdesignersforum and viperchill.

Go into Google Analytic's, check out all the keywords generating traffic organically, export a csv of the data and copy all the keywords into Google keyword Tool.

If Google Analytic's says you have received 50 visits from 'fluffy bunnies' over a monthly period and the keyword tool says the local monthly search volume is 5000 searches, go into google and query 'fluffy bunnies', there is a good chance your result isnt that far into the results as you are picking up clicks off that term.

Thus low hanging fruit, if you work on the already ranking term, which might be on page 2 and push it through to page 1 your see a good increase in traffic for the term without to much effort (depending on the keyword).

You find 5 of these and work them up... well you get the picture.

Is it possible for an individual to go against the big boys in a industry sector?

Lets say flowers in the UK, all the massive flower companies go for 2 keywords:

'flowers delivered' (30,000 ems) and 'flowers by post' (30,000 ems)

Would it be possible to start a new site and within 6 months (July) be up in the top 5?

Scrap any exact match domains as there gone, I'm talking about creating a brand such as flowerpower.co.uk picking a term and going for it.

Is this possible?

Yeah I did this before for a good article which was more of a tutorial and got around 100 likes in a few weeks, that alone made some movements in the SERP's (pretty good movement at that).

I do want to carry on with guest blogging though as I have seen some very good movement from this as well but maybe I should alternate one on my site one on another.

Do you think the links on that post will come into play and push me above over a period of time?

Well it made me laugh and then cry a little after anyway.

I have a keyword which is ranking page 1 position 7, I created a really nice article with content relevant to the keyword maybe around 600 words.

I spent maybe half hour researching blogs on myblogguest looking for one that was based in the same country, had really good mozbar stats, even checked out how quickly other posts got indexed.

I put 2 anchor text links in the article and managed to get the blogger to post the article.

Next day checked the rankings and the post on the blog is now position 7, and has knocked me to position 8.

I'm tempted to ask the blogger to change the title tag not to include my targeted keyword.

Anyone got an advice on this?

I have seen some pretty crazy rankings from EMD's, I believe if you had these on your side, it would be A LOT easier to beat them.
