HUGELY different ranking for a keyword between Bing and Google. Looking for ideas.
I think Bing is more sensitive to links, and use fewer algorithms to penalize (like Penguin or Panda). So with few good links and exact anchor you can rank easily.

We are being penalized for one specific key word (and phrases it appears in), how can we figure out why?
Problems like this can be really hard to figure out. But, in my experience it is quite uncommon for a site to get any sort of penalty or demotion for a particular keyword. I think that sometimes it can look like a particular keyword is demoted when the page previously had rankings that were propped up by the power of links that are now being detected as unnatural. Sometimes when there is just one keyword that is not doing well, I look at the possibility of keyword stuffing. The keyword stuffing algo runs continuously and can indeed cause a particular page to not rank well if it thinks it is keyword stuffed. And in my opinion, it's not always consistent how Google determines keyword stuffing. There are plenty of keyword stuffed pages that still rank. And often two pages that look similar can be affected in different ways. But still, this is something to consider.

Does anyone have a good work around for using product images with water marks in the Google Merchant Center product listings?
Hi Margaret, I'm running shopping campaign for Google since long time and i found it if you violate any shopping campaign policy your campaign will suspended and if you do repeat violation your account/site will be banned for any kind of advertisement. So I would suggest you to not use watermark images, Google won't accept this and I don't think any one here will help/suggest you to violate the Google policy. Hope this helps. Thanks

Is there a good tool for testing href lang reciprocity?
Thanks for your responses (regardless of names :)). The error message I get is - Reciprocal not found -. The weird thing is that I only get that error message beside the URL I test. I.e. If I test www.test.com/canada/ It will show the second link as www.test.com/usa/ as it should, but beside my /canada/ link it will show "Reciprocal not found". But if I redo the same test, and enter www.test.com/usa/ it will show 'Reciprocal not found" beside the USA link, but not beside the Canada one. So the Reciprocal not found error stays with the URL I'm actually entering. Does this make sense?

Is there a good Free tool that will check my entire subdomain for mobility issues?
hello, You don't mention what kind of check reports you are looking for, but I also recommend you to scan your pages (sorry but one at a time) with the free tool PageSpeed Insight of Google. After crawling, you will see 2 different results: desktop-oriented and mobile-oriented, with a rating number and a detail of what is working or not at your site/subdomain. I usually use it in order to improve my website's response time, cache issues, user experience, etc. Hope this helps! Luis

Is there a downside to "closing" a domain and 301'ing to to your main domain?
What did the reviewer do? First, this is a person who has a lot of knowledge about me and my websites from doing work on them several times over a period of several years. I told the person to review the entire site and give me a list of the things that they would do if the website belonged to them. I offered access to analytics and would answer any questions. I got back a big "to do list" that would significantly improve the site and require lots of work. Doing the tasks on the list cost many times more than the review. My problems have been solved but I am still working on the list because the list will improve the site.

A website with a spam score of 5 is back linking to me. How important is to get that link removed?
Hi Margaret, You should read this review on the Moz spam tool written by Marie Haynes, who is quite knowledgeable on link removal & spammy links. Basically, the tool can be useful, when used in combination with other tools and with manually reviewing the links themselves. So don't take decisions only based on the score of the tool - Ryan made some valuable points on how to determine if a link is spammy. You should also read this post by Marie on how to identify unnatural links. Based on these elements, you can make a decision whether or not to disavow these links. rgds, Dirk

HELP! Google is penalizing me and I can't figure out why.
We have had two massive clients (one well-known real estate company, one international brand) both manually penalised for these type of links so I would say you should probably start working them out of existence before you get penalised as well. (If I had been a Google reviewer instead of an SEO guy helping me out, you'd have a penalty. All it takes is the wrong set of eyes on the site.) As far as your below question re: historic link profile, it's hard to say. You never know what Google sees, when they first saw it and how much they value it. I believe links get less valuable over time so to some extent it's not the be-all, end-all but if those links have been only just crawled in the last few months even if they were created 10 years ago, they may be just as valuable as one created today.

How important is my code to text ratio on web pages?
Hi, I am also very confused by the conflicting information out there. On one hand the general advice appears to be get your text to code ratio over 25%, but on the other hand Moz now includes as one of its "Spam Score" factors and I quote "**Site Mark-up is Abnormally Small - **There's a high ratio of visible text compared to HTML, JavaScript, etc." So which is right for the best SERPS SEO???? Help, Glenn

How important are automatic 301s?
Thanks Ryan, They are URL's that we would like to have indexed, so any visitor could find them. They don't change often, but if a SKU for example changes, the cart automatically changes the URL to match the new SKU, but does not generate a 301. I'll look into this, thanks for the tip.

How can I change the currency Google lists my products with in the SERP?
It sounds like you'll want to contact your cart platform regarding that. That example you sent also uses CDN instead of CAD, so maybe that's part of it.

Telling Google SERP's my correct currency.
Hi I did, this URL - https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&q=absoluteautomation.ca%2C fgd400 - hows what I mean. Because I'm Canada and browsing it shows US in the SERP listings

Help targeting the USA in Search
Hi there, The best way to solve Google's search result misalignment issues is by using hreflang annotations in order to specify the language and country target for each one of your different sites pages and refer to Google to the relevant version in each case. Please check: Google's specification to use hreflang annotations. Examples of misalignment situations (as yours) and the explanation on how to use the hreflang annotations with a tool. More examples on how many different sites use hreflang annotations I'm pretty positive that if you use the annotations correctly the situation will improve Thanks, Aleyda

Problem with duplicate pages due to mobile site.
You have the rel="alternate" tags from the page back to the mobile version, right? That seems odd...has anyone else had this with mobile and desktop pages in WMT?
Technical SEO Issues | | KristinaKledzik0 -
How to use rel="alternate" properly for mobile directory.
Hi there! It looks like both these tags are present on the same URL, your desktop version. The rel="canonical" tag should be implemented on the mobile version of the page instead, and only the rel="alternate" tag should be kept on the desktop versions. This is how you signal the bidirectional, or two-way, relationship to Google. Hope that helps!

Spike in server errors
1. Have you submitted the new pages via a sitemap/fetch as Google? Could be they are still trying to crawl all the old pages. 2. Have you manually checked some of the pages to see if the redirect is working? If they are, could be you have an error in your reporting through GWT (it's not perfect, and will often give warnings about old pages, even those you 301) Once you submit the pages, and have verified your pages are redirecting properly let it run it's course. Be sure to double check in analytics that you are not losing traffic due to any non-functioning redirects.

Can internal links cause Google to penalize me for key terms/phrases?
Thanks Irving. When you say stuffing the blog and knowledgebase tags. Do you mean stuffing on specific blog or knowledgebase article pages? Thanks!
