Proxy Servers & SEO
Something like that can be done, but you must exercise care to not get slapped for duplicate content penalties. There can only be one place for that content in the eyes of your users and google, meaning the funny proxy server should never itself be visible to public. But if you do this right, you can have the content rendered on your desired page on your site which should get captured by Google properly as well. But if you really want to be sure, test it, setup a test page like this without all the fancy dev work. and have google crawl your site and see what it reports back after it picks up that page. I think you will be ok if you do your research and do not miss your rel canonicals or other countermeasures for duplicate content. However it gets rendered on your /page, make sure google console can show/see the same content there.

Case Study Mystery
Many thanks Kristen, I appreciate the answer being specific to the question Yes, we've racked our brains over this one. The business serves London almost uniquely but the HQ is further out. I wonder if anyone has found away around this that works? This is interesting and a bit of a minefield. I guess the only thing we can do is test. Hopefully Penguin 4 will ensure quicker feedback on testing than previously.

.htaccess code
What I'm looking to do is pass the link juice on from about 5,000 backlinks still pointing at our old site (which exists in domain form only a present) to the new site. Are these links pointed to the home page? Or are these pointed at relevant landing pages? If to the home page (and page is same on new site) nothing is needed. If these links are pointed to a landing page, you will need to route them to a related page on the new site and 301. Are you saying there's not point in using a 301 if the page doesn't exist? Yes, no point unless there is a new landing page that is some-how related. I don't really understand why you'd use a 301 if the page still existed...? If the page is on the new site and is the same url, no 301 is needed.

Nofollow links on our site menu
I'm not sure of their reasoning to be honest Andy. As I understand it, in the code there are two different menus - one for desktop visitors and one for mobile. Obviously only one shows up, depending on what the visitor is using. And rather than present Google with 500+ menu links twice, they've put nofollow on all the mobile version so only one set is presented. Does that makes any sense?

Backlink Building - is it worth it?
Some people write content that explains how to select the product, how to maintain it, demonstrations of how to use it. These are great for attracting links. DIY sites are the best examples of this type of content. These article pages, if done well, can attract links, pull traffic, and ads on those pages send visitors to your sales pages. Or, you can offer items for sale on these pages and those sales will come after your content has inspired the person to buy.

How unique should a meta description be?
Thanks for your response BlueCorona! The pages concerned are for products and the 'wraparound' text regards free delivery and next day delivery - this is relevant to all the pages and also helpful to tempt the user to click as it's pretty much the best deal in the country. Would you still say that is detrimental? Individual meta descriptions over time... we have 25,000 products and add / remove many products on a daily basis so I don't think it's really a realistic option.
