Host on my Site or a New Domain ( Content / Tutorial / University )
-
Hello Happy Mozers
Ok i have a small technical question.
I am building an online university of video, tasks and tutorials where people can join and take a self paced courses or do a coach course with me.
I already have my own Internet Marketing Website and this is something i am building and doing on the side but it is part of my marketing services.
I would love to pick your brain on how i should proceed to handle .
All the content is going to be behind a pay-wall and my direct question is this.
Do i build a new website with a unique url for the university i am building
or do i attach it to my current marketing site and put it in a subdirectory.
ie: Learn.mysite.com
From an Seo and marketing standpoint, the Tutorial site is most probably going to get more steam and more links coming in then my internet marketing site.
How do i leverage this?
Any experience out there !

If you put the new site in a subdomain, it will benefit from the domain authority of your current site. However, if all your content is behind a paywall, you won't be able to drive any SEO traffic to it.

i am planning on building widgets and content for the university for SEO purposes, but yes most content the meet and potatoes are behind a paywall as i am trying to market and sell the services i provide.
But subdomain. My site does not have much value yet as its been only 3 months .
Ok questions so if my sub domain over the long run builds MORE value then my site. Does my site benefit from my robust subdomain . ?

Sorry, I meant to say subdirectory (domain.com/site). With a subdirectory your new site will benefit from the domain authority of your old site, and your old site will benefit from any links you build to the new site. If you have 2 separate sites, you will be increasing the amount of link building you have to do, but there could be other benefits like branding, risk diversification, etc.
