Titles in google serps incorrect
-
If you do the following query in google:
site:orlandovisiting.com legend sparrow
You'll see in the results the title appears as:
legend-captain-jack-sparrow-1149.html
Where the title tag in the source is:
<title>The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow Opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studiostitle>
Eventually it normally rights itself, but does anyone else get this with their sites?
Thanks.

Cliffs: Your title tag might be too long.

Ok so in summary. It's not a hard and fast number of characters, but looks like its pixel widths. Also google can ignore the title tag if it has deemed the title tag non-descriptive?
So two title tags:
<title>The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow Opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios</title>
appears as:
legend-captain-jack-sparrow-1149.html - Orlando Visiting
<title>Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow | Walt Disney World News</title>
appears as
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow ...
Is it the pipe in the title affecting this because I wouldn't say it the title tag physical width or number of characters?

Hi Ian,
Google uses many singles to display title in SERP like backlinks pointing that pages, data from directory sites, social media signals etc. They try to increase the CTR of your website so that they display different titles.
