Page Rank Update
-
I was hit by Google’s latest Page Rank update. I know “don’t be obsessed with Page Rank”, but it concerns me. I thought that I was developing a very good link profile and actually was hopeful that it would go to a PR-5 and it dropped to a PR-3. www.simply-bags.com
I have another site www.keepsakes-etc.com and have done very little link building and it also dropped to a PR-3.
Can anyone give me some honest feedback about my concern?

Hi,
If i understand PR correctly it is only a measure of the links on the web - the below numbers are in NO WAY statistically correct, but just a VERY rough explanation of how i understand PR and please keep in mind there are many mathematical equations that go into determining this, but has very little to do with the quality of links only the quantity, Unless you have a penalty and are a 0 then this could be a "red flag" to start "worrying"
Example:
if the most linked to site on the web has 1,000,000 links pointing to it, then it jumps to 2,000,000 in the next refresh and your site did not gain links in equation to this largest site then the PR shifts.
There was a time (i believe) long ago when PR (Number of Links) was the determining factor of SERPS. This is why people tell you to not be obsessed with page rank as in theory it is actually a useless metric except to see if the site in question is a 0 which means (in some situations) there could be a problem in Google's eyes.
In short, if you are gaining quality links and presenting engaging useful relevant content you should not sweat a PR change unless it goes to 0 (typically)

A bigger question would be have you seen a change in the amount of quality traffic to your site? In the amount of conversions? If those haven't been negative, I wouldn't worry about the toolbar page rank update.
