  • It's the only page on that site with a review - I wonder if that might have something to do with it? I'll ask them to resize and smush the images but as you say, it's ranking for other keyword combinations, so that's likely not the root cause. It's a strange one.

  • Not sure about this specific message you got, but very often messages like this from Webmaster tools only include a few sample links, and then you have to figure it out yourself which the other pages are where the problems occur (Google wouldn't dare to make our lives too easy)

  • Thanks for the input, Gianluca. I'm actually a dev myself and am about to abandon all these open-source platforms for a static site, but I do need a blog. It's a terrible case really, but there are absolutely no platforms built first on top of a multi-language framework. You either need a plugin, a module, a different store view, etc. Unbelievably short sided in my opinion, but that's where we're at. New open-source packages like Grav and PageKit don't support multiple languages, either. Just baffling! And SEO standards are flat out being ignored even most of the hosted platforms. WTF? FYI, Odoo is an amazing piece of software, but their new CMS is far from ready. There is no URL redirect feature; no structured data; unfriendly URLs with post IDs and underscores; dev unfriendly--you'll really need to dive into the code to make changes, override, or customizations. On performance, Odoo runs on it's own openerp server through a Nginx/Apache proxy. All-in-all, the language support is ok and the design features are pretty cool, but these very capable developers almost completely ignored performance and SEO best practices. In my opinion, it will take years for this platform to compete with Magento or Wordpress as an viable SMB solution. There just isn't an easy migration path to Odoo, and it's too much work for no real advantage over the other packages. Seems like developing a multi-lingual, multi-currency, e-commerce platform that follows current SEO recommendations would be a huge step for mankind. Still looking...

  • Hi, I would like to suggest few ways to find the list of keyword currently used in your website. 1>Check view source of each page and see what keywords used in meta title, H1 tag & content. These are the very important place where people use keywords to optimize. 2>Second check in webmaster tools & analytics if your site is not brand new. In these two you will find by which keywords website getting traffic. 3>Use open site explorer (a moz tool). To use this tool for keyword ideas, enter website URL and go to the Anchor Text Distribution tab. I hope above methods helps you. Thanks

  • Hi Andrew. That would be Rank Tracker: https://moz.com/researchtools/rank-tracker.  It's also incorporated into Moz Analytics if you host campaigns here.  Cheers!

  • Well, now I realise whats going on. Mainly the posts on the soccer blog are news related to recent football matches. Probably the site was appearing in the news section of Google... soon I will start again to work on him and I can post updates if anyone is interested ... So I guess , if I start to add High PA & DA authority links ( instead of weak forum profiles) + fresh content, soon the site is going to have massive traffic. Seems that related links, + fresh content rocks

  • If you do the appropriate amount of keyword and other research before making the changes, then you most likely wont be super surprised by the way Google interprets your changes. As an additional safe guard you should closely monitor your rankings after you make the changes. If you notice too much of negative impact as a result of the changes, change your content back and start over with a different approach. Research and monitoring are key!

  • Hi Nick, Regarding the path, you will need at least a second variation URL in step 2, but it does not need to be live. At the end of step 4, make sure there are no errors. The most likely error on step 4 is that the code is not on your page. You wouldn't want to click "start test" if the pages weren't live either, obviously. Now to the question of showing the same page throughout the journey. Experiments does not do this by default; it's more of a landing page tool. There is a way to make it happen, and that's to change the navigation on the test version. I've seen companies either clone every page that links to the test with links to version 1 and 2 (yuck) or use a cookie that switches out all links to the original with the test version if a cookie is fired from the test version. The difficulty of doing this will vary based on your developer's skills and the CMS you're using. These work-arounds are not ideal, and they introduce more potential errors - as all complexity does. It really only works for small sites and landing pages with limited paths in and out. If you're looking to keep the experiment consistent and run a lot of tests I would strongly recommend checking out a tool like Optimizely. I've worked with Optimizely in the past, and had nothing but great experiences. Just make sure to test multiple screen sizes before you launch.

  • Power Mapper is another one with several visual options: http://www.powermapper.com/products/mapper/maps/visual-sitemaps.htm http://slickplan.com also has some visual options. Another useful visualization is to run some Analytics reports in the same was as you would say the skyscraper format in Power Mapper using pageviews by pages in site content. That way you can visualize which pages are most popular.  You can do the same via search visitors as well.  Cheers!
