  • Thanks for your response Patrick! This has helped alot!!! So clear! Thanks for going into more details about the canonical tags - as this part was confusing! lol Thanks I have set it to www as the preferred With regards to the canonical tags - should I use this for ALL pages? or just the category pages? Or just pages I feel have similar content? Would it be just safe to add it to every page?

  • Hi John; Internal links should indeed be changed to the url's you keep. On the duplicates - it's best to put a noindex, follow - that way the value from the external links to the page is still beneficial for your site (if this article is still valid http://www.stonetemple.com/articles/interview-matt-cutts.shtml) To be honest - for duplicate pages that have incoming external links - I would rather 301 them to the original article (or put a canonical to the original). I rgds Dirk

  • Hi there I personally like option 2 as I can keep all of my information in one place and label that information accordingly. There's really no wrong or right way to do it, that's upto you! Whatever works best and helps you make the best decisions is the route I would take. If you have multiple competitors in different seasons, maybe a couple different campaigns would be good to set up for you. But as you said same competitors, I can't see a reason to have your information strewn about multiple campaigns. I can see that getting confusing, but I am basing that off of how my mind works. Would be interesting for you to keep tabs on what you choose to do and turn it into a YouMoz post showcasing your findings - I can see this helping a lot of people! Hope this helps a bit! Good luck!

  • If this was my site, I would stop linking to tag pages and search results pages.  I would also block them from being indexed. It is very possible that the search results pages are causing issues.  Google said back in 2007... "Typically, web search results don’t add value to users, and since our core goal is to provide the best search results possible, we generally exclude search results from our web search index. " Matt Cutts comments about it here and on a similar subject here.

  • Thanks for the information. I don't know how to and don't think I have access to change those settings on my sitemap with my current website provider. I'll send this information to them and see if they know what the problem is. Google seems to update daily, so there must be a setting that Bing doesn't like.

  • Hi there Follow backlinks are links that pass equity to your website. Nofollow backlinks do not, although sometimes search engines ignore this, although rarely. Here's what I would review if I were you: Learn SEO (Moz - your website needs a lot of work) Learn Academy (Moz) Follow Links Vs. No Follow Links: Should You Care? (Wordstream) Beginner's Guide to Link Building (Moz) The Hidden Power of Nofollow Links (Moz) How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Nofollow (Moz) One thing I will say - do NOT ignore getting links because they are nofollow. I really want you to know that. Reason being, a "good" link comes in many forms - one of those forms might potentially be "nofollow". I highly suggest reading this post from Rand Fishkin regarding link building, a lot of it still stands. I added some of my thoughts on this subject in another question and answer on this forum, please read. Again, as your site needs a lot of work, I would heavily focus on your design (especially responsive), your architecture & internal linking, and looking at your analytics / Webmaster Tools to learn what is bringing users to your site, so you can have a guided strategy. Now, there is a LOT here. You have a lot to catch up on - that's totally fine! But please, read everything here, learn as much as you can, and don't be completely set on only doing link building out of the gate. Let me know if this all helps! Take your time, have fun, and good luck!

  • That is a good point. The US not really having a country domain means that we have end up with a different perspective.  It will be worthwhile trying to see how some of these new domains work soon. Some will be really useful for email. Sending to joe@nike will be much easier if your company can afford to fork out for their domain. Has anyone heard if companies are testing these new domains? Hopefully we will get some more thoughts on this.

  • Hi Nathan, I recommend going with USPS version. I use SmartyStreets.com to look these up. Also, recommend you check out Nyagoslav Zhekov's recent post on acceptable NAP: http://www.whitespark.ca/acceptable-google-maps-nap-abbreviations-and-variations

  • Hi Harry, I changed the status to "Discussion", because - as a moderator - I consider that the answers summed up substantially offer you a solution, but - as it is quite common in SEO - there is space for further discussion. Moreover, the "discussion" status may attract more people into offering valuable opinions.
