  • Thanks Tom, I guess I made a mistake going with Wix, I will see if their support or forums can help out more with the issue. Our current website is a Wordpress one, but it has almost nothing on it, and looks like a blog. I'm just an admin at the company, and the owner wanted a website with his bio.  I did a couple on the Godaddy Web builder, and thought I could make him proud with a bigger website.  It looks like that was a mistake as his only goal was to get a page about him near the top, and instead he'll have a website he didn't want, not achieving the only goal he had. Sorry, went into vent mode there.  Thanks again for the help.

  • That sounds like it. You need to add both versions of your site (http and https) to WMT and see if there is data in the https. Then make sure that you pick one (if you go https, make sure you have the right certificates set up) and redirect any requests for the other to the right one.

  • I  put an end to that, mostly because it was absolutely pointless and not user friendly. This..

  • Like the standard level I think it will be split into 50K per campaign. I am unaware there is a setting to limit the page crawled based on your overall amount (in standard there isn't anyway). It could possibly be a nice feature that Moz could include if you have one campaign that is much larger than the rest.

  • Hello! Thanks for jumping in Tim! The Mozscape index is indeed an automated process - but sadly our Sep release was cancelled. I would definitely recommend jumping over to Rand's Q&A post for more details on what exactly went down. I hope this additional information helps to clarify!

  • Hi There, Thanks for writing us! Unfortunately, while it is true that you can export all of your existing keywords from keyword difficulty with the export CSV here:http://screencast.com/t/DSxnAnpJuGm This will not be able to include the SERPs within the CSV, downloading all of keywords with SERP's is not possible at the moment because it would sadly put a lot of pressure on the system. Though we may be able to expand our capabilities down the line for the moment this is a bit beyond our capability. Here is an awesome article diving a bit deeper into the tool so if you have any questions for me let me know! https://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/keyword-difficulty

  • Hi Raj, The [site:] operator returns an estimated count of the number of indexed pages for the domain.Basically, Google displays a small percentage of the actual data because they believe it's not fair for spammers and competitors to reverse engineer someone's ranking. To get better results try open site explorer (https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/). Hope this helps. Thanks

  • I wish to add my two-penneth in here... Link building has changed hugely over the last few years and to the point, I am actually going to be dropping this as an offering within my consultancy services. Link building should really now be tied in to a bigger service / article marketing production plan. Of course, there are some sites / areas where you might still be able to go out and build natural links, but these are going to decrease over time. Google now wants to see a fantastic site with outstanding content. The happier your visitors, the happier Google will be. Content, content, content - focus heavily on creating something not seen on your competitors sites and market that through as many channels as you can. -Andy

  • **Is there any SEO Benefit to submitting the Site Map to all three **variations? None at all. You have just one live site (as you should have) then just build your sitemap based on that. -Andy

  • Hi Shauna, You're very welcome! If your client's only real office is in Farmer's Branch, any Google+ Local pages he has built for any other city would be a violation of the guidelines, and thus, at risk for a takedown any time Google might notice them. Because this could then potentially 'prejudice' Google against the whole business, he might find his legitimate location suspected of spammy stuff as well. So, in a nutshell here, the client should not be thinking about what he may lose if he takes down spammy listings - he should be thinking about the preservation of his legitimate location. He's in an at-risk situation that needs to be addressed as wisely and speedily as possible SAB marketing works like this: You build a website. Your core on-site optimization revolves around the city in which you have a physical office. You only build citations for that physical office. On the website, you develop a unique page of content for each service city. You do not build citations for these location-less service cities. You hope to earn organic rankings (not local pack rankings) with these city pages because of their strength, quality, earned links, etc. This article is a year old and may have a few outdated references in it, but it should help you discern your client's business model type and understand what a typical marketing plan looks like for this type of model: https://moz.com/blog/local-landing-pages-guide The only alternative to the above is for the client to establish a legitimate, staffed office in Dallas, one in Plano, etc. If this is a new client of yours and/or you are new to Local SEO, I think it would be a very smart move to suggest that he hire an expert Local SEO to consult with him. If you've already discovered that he's been engaged in some spammy practices, chances are pretty high that he has engaged in others you may not yet know about. If a good Local SEO was willing to fully audit the business for him or for your agency, they would likely uncover a number of things that need to be addressed to clean up the way the business has been marketing itself and put it on a clean track. If you're looking for a heavy hitter in this field, I recommend you check out the Contributors box on last year's Moz Local Search Ranking Factors survey. Everyone who participates in that survey does so because their expertise is widely recognized: https://moz.com/local-search-ranking-factors Hope this helps! P.S. Oops, so sorry. This is Miriam writing, by the way, but I'm signed into Alliance at the moment

  • Hi Mark, I do suggest moving to a provider like DigitalOcean that offers great hardware that costs less than some shared hosting solutions. With DO, you have complete control. I wouldn't suggest PHP redirects with Wordpress extensions unless you absolutely must. I moved to Nginx years ago, but with Apache I know you can still have an .htaccess file in your website home directory, and rewrites should work these just fine.

  • Personally I'd start with a link analysis to answer the question, "Are they stronger than you?"  You'll want to look at their sheer volume as well as the quality and when they were built to get a feel for their current activities. After that I'd obviously look at your content.  Does your content comply with current SEO best practices in it's type and formatting and down to the technological questions such as "Do you have clean and fast code?" and "Are you formatting properly?" If you're looking for assistance in the process Moz actually offers a list of their recommended SEOs.  It's a good list.   You'll find it at https://moz.com/community/recommended.

  • Should I proceed with back linking and adding new content yet (one blog a week and a new review) or hold off for a couple more weeks? Content - Content - Content... I have a client who is in the eCig market at the moment and I can tell you that Google doesn't like traditional backlinks for these kinds of sites. This comes from having worked with others in the past too. You need to be getting inventive and getting some up to date content on there. Setup some alerts from Google based around eCig new, and when it comes through, hop on to your blog and get started with your own version of the news. Give insights - be controversial - write how-to guides and try and create an air that says "amazing content, oh, and they sell a product", not the other way around. You will be chasing your tail. Also, don't stop at 500 words - you need to be putting some real time into creating content that will make others (and Google) sit up and take notice. Then share the sh*t out of it in as many ways as you possibly can. I don't mean spam though - create a few well-thought-out call to actions and use these as a hook. I hope this helps. -Andy
