  • I agree with Gaston, but usually the SEO benefits that you will see are rather small. This was a tactic that was used a couple of years ago to just buy a bunch of domains that already have a ton of links to them and then just point them to your main root domain. Usually the easiest signal to look at is already to see if you suddenly start redirecting certain URLs to another page.

  • Hi Luke Matt has the right idea. If the pages are going to "exist", you should block search engines from crawling them with the robots.txt file. I would get your dev to help, but basically you'd find the folder or path in which you want to crawler to stop at. Maybe it's /month/ or something and you'd block that in robots.txt. Ian covers this in his recent article about "Spider Traps". And you can also read about robots.txt on Moz or on Google.

  • Heard through some of their customers that the links they built got sites hit with manual penalties last year. I wouldn't personally use them for this ... just depends on the business & goals, I suppose. Keep all your reports if you do use them. Check the links, verify you aren't getting setup with sites that can harm you.

  • Gaston has hit the high notes.  I would also consider an ssl certificate.  You are correct about your on site optimization it is pretty good.  Good responsive site. The links are the major problem. They are not high quality, relevance / trust the clear factors. Hope that assists.

  • I am using Yoast premium as well. It is helpful for Rich snippits but I keep getting Micro Data errors. Honestly I cannot tell if it is helping me but from what I have read it is a big deal.

  • Hey There! I really appreciate you coming back to update this thread with your experience. So, that's really good to note that someone noticed your company Twitter. Good to know! And sure, you don't want to abuse the account, but it sounds like you've now got a new resource that could be handy in a variety of situations. Neat development!

  • Hey There! You have 2 possible approaches here: Build a unique landing page on the website for each store if you feel you can create high quality content for each. This should be possible, if the project has the funding to post things like unique specials, events, products, offerings in each store on an ongoing basis. Link the Google My Business page and all other citations for each location to its unique landing page on the company website. A good example of this would be a site like REI.com. Go to http://www.rei.com/map/store and type in a geographic search. For example, searching for San Diego, CA, takes you here: http://www.rei.com/map/store#San Diego%2C CA. From there you can click on the map-based link to get to the individual page: http://www.rei.com/stores/san-diego.html. Look at what a nice job they've done with that page! If the project seems overwhelming, the alternative would be something more like this: http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/restaurant_locator.html. When you type in a zip code, it simply brings up a map. There does not seem to be a unique page for each store. No doubt, the corporation felt such an approach would be futile given that McDonald's has some 35,000 locations globally and they all serve basically the same thing (though I have heard you can get an unlisted green chile cheeseburger at the McDonald's in Window Rock, AZ. in Navajo Country). Which approach is stronger? #1, in most cases, but whether you can take that approach is going to depend on the funding for the project. Hope this helps.

  • As long as you return 404 this is good. But the question is "why search results in CMS are indexed?". And answer of this is "Joomla". I will keep them as 404. But there are other 404 pages there: http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/download.php?f=tombolis-article.pdf <- http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/download.php?f=tombolis-article.pdf http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/download.php?f=ethicare-dental-ad-april-2009.pdf <- http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/download.php?f=ethicare-dental-ad-april-2009.pdf http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/download.php?f=ethicare-dental-ad-may-2008.pdf <- http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/a-one-stop-shop-for-oral-health-needs/ http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/download.php?f=how-i-did-it.pdf <- http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/how-i-did-it/ Few domains that didn't exist anymore: file:///Z:/Clients/Current%20Clients/Ethicare%20Dental/Articles/JULY%20ARTICLES/Is%20the%20new%20best%20toothpaste%20in%20the%20world%20all%20its%20cracked%20up%20to%20be.docx <- http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/is-the-new-worlds-best-toothpaste-all-its-cracked-up-to-be/ http://www.hypnotherapydunstable.co.uk/img/dentist.jpg <- http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/taking-the-fear-out-of-a-trip-to-the-dentists-chair Few 301 that i would skip: http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/orthodontist -> http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/orthodontist/ http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/hygienist -> http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/hygienist/ http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/finance -> http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/finance-and-guarantee/ http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/zoom-tooth-whitening -> http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/tooth-whitening/ there are much more i just show 3-4 examples. And few more small issues. This is result of direct crawl now on site. If there was link as: http://www.ethicaredental.co.uk/blah-blah that i can't see it now anymore and it return 404 now. I would 410 it to prevent deleting them over and over from SearchConsole.

  • Dirk has got you covered here, I just wanted to add some more info for anyone else with a similar query. To track each subdomain separately you can set up individual campaigns and selecting the advanced option like so: http://screencast.com/t/VMaLHNfZ This is only available during campaign setup. To track the main website + 8 subdomains you will need to upgrade to the Medium plan which allows you to up to 10 campaigns. If you're stuck with your upgrade or any account based queries please write in to us at help@moz.com so we can keep your account details private Cheers! Jo
