  • Hi Rosemary, Dave here. I like to think of it like our addressing system.  Because we all use the same system and format for our addresses on an envelope we don't need a code to tell us but as you know ... everyone displays their product information and other data differently on a page. Because of that the engines can have difficulty telling what bit of data is what.  Is "blue" the color of the product, the color of the screen or simply used on the page in a "Don't feel blue ... buy XYZ !" Structured data, as Matt well-noted, is just an idea really of matching information with what it means.  Like saying "blue" = "product color". Of course, that's all well-and-good but we can all build our own systems and many have been.  If we're all using different systems then nothing makes sense so folks got together and created Schema.org simply as a body that could help create a standard.  Like saying, "on an envelop you put the name first, then the address, then the city, then the state, then the zip code".  If we put things on the envelop differently things would get messy so Schema basically gives us the instruction on how to pass information across.  Schema isn't the idea or even the data, it's the instructions on how to tell Google what specific data means. Clear as mud?

  • My first thought is that this topic is already well-covered in a competitive vertical, and it's going to take a lot more than on-page factors to get it ranking well. Has the content earned any links? I see it's got 14 social shares, but the top articles for "moving tips" have more than 500, and a few have thousands. What are you bringing to the table with this advice that others aren't already offering? Can you organize the info in a way that's more shareable? Develop a functional checklist that someone who's moving can actually print and use? Can you pitch a news story around it to local media? Interest for "moving tips" seems to really spike in June and July, so you're well-positioned to coordinate with peak seasonal interest right now.

  • As EGOL suggests, if the pages haven't received any traffic in the past year or so, then they most likely are dead weight and  you need to get rid of them. I would, however, do two things: Review all the links to your website and 301 redirect any news articles or URLs that have links pointing to them. You'll want to make sure that you keep any links that you have pointing to those pages. Rather than use a 404 error on those pages when you remove them, I would use a '410 gone' error to indicate to Google that they're no longer present, have been removed, and they need to remove them from their index.

  • Hi Paul This means you are re-attempting to re-submit too quickly. You will want to wait 2 minutes before resubmitting, however since the transaction initially declined, I recommend contacting your bank for more info. Hope this helps!

  • As @jessconfitti said, you are 100% correct. If a user browses more than 1 page in your site, it would not be a bounce. Even if after the second page the users clicks back to whatever Website they came from.

  • Hey Ricky! I would say this boils down to how well that directory ranks for your client's core search terms. $50 is quite a bit to ask for a listing, you know, but if there is some reason being ranked on this directory in this town would help your client earn rankings they can't get on their own, it might be worth it. So, do some searches to discover how authoritative the directory is.

  • Whatever the case, if you have more than one link to the same page on the same page, only the first one is counted. So, there may be no need for the second link. What I would do, though, is use Google Analytics' in page analytics to see if you are getting clicks on that second link and which link is getting clicked more often by visitors to that page. If no one clicks on one of the links, you might consider removing it altogether.

  • Hello Jim, I understand that comparing these two data sets can be rather frustrating, especially when you're trying to do quick comparisons across multiple data sets. Unfortunately, there is no way to retroactively filter this data within the Google Analytics reports. But you can create a filter to handle this issue moving forward.  To do this, go to the specific view that you wish to change this data in, select the 'Filters' option and then select 'Create new Filter'. Then after naming it as you please, choose 'Custom' as your Filter Type and then select the 'Search and Replace' radial option. Under the Filter Field drop-down, select 'Request URI' and in your Search String enter '.php$' and leave the Replace String section empty. (This is a regular expression; therefore, the beginning \ escapes the '.' variable & the '$' defines that this should only happen when the string ends in '.php') Then at the bottom of the page you should see an option to verify this filter. Do so and ensure the change being made makes your desired effect. Be sure to check that no anomalies are created through this process. Now that you have created a filter to handle this issue moving forward, the best way to handle this is to manually export the data and sort the URLs by alphabetical order, unless you are fluent in using the Google Analytics API. Then you could use the API to pull this data into Google Sheets & have it automatically clean up the data, but I would not recommend this solution if you haven't previously used the Analytics API. While I know this is not an ideal solution, this should handle the issue moving forward. Let me know if you have any further questions! Regards, Trenton

  • Hey Janet, Like Jordan says, putting a bit of content around each to provide a bit of background info about each service would be good, rather than just a list of links to other companies. About the follow / nofollow issue, as long as the sites aren't spammy, there shouldn't be a need to nofollow them. I've heard it reinforced several times recently that as long as you trust the website you're linking to, there's no need to nofollow the link. Adding a nofollow to the link is like saying to search engines, 'I don't trust this guy' - but if you didn't, why would you link to them? Anyway sorry for the rambling but where the links are duplicated, nofollow, otherwise there's no need.

  • Hi, I am contacting you guys again. Google has re-indexed our site completely. The only thing is our home page which remains with the old title tag... Any reason as to why this remains unchanged? See screenshot here: http://screencast.com/t/COF3cN9zC5

  • Hi, I would try to avoid duplicate content as much as I can but, there is no such a thing as "duplicate content" penalty unless all of your content is simply copied from elsewhere. I would try and use rel=canonical tags to tell Google that this piece of content is the original one. Please watch this WB Friday: https://moz.com/blog/guest-blogging-content-licensing-without-duplicate-content-issues-whiteboard-friday Thanks,
