  • Hey there, I think some of the responses in this thread will give you what you need but just wanted to chip in. Guest posting is a bit of a contentious topic at the moment, recently Google Reps like John Mueller have said that sites should nofollow ANY guest links (so that includes very reputable sites and relevant posts). As Marjin says below - I think you're on the money when you talk about relevance. If we ignore Google for a moment - is it likely that users on those sites would click through to yours and convert? If no then it's quite likely this person is offering guest posting to a host of different sites and Google probably has a pretty good idea that the site is spammy. So you're less likely to get a ranking benefit from this and you're not getting direct benefit from the links. If, on the other hand, there is a way for your site to be relevant to the sites then at the very least you could get users clicking through and converting, which is direct value anyway. If this site is vetting opportunities to make sure they are relevant to the audience it's more likely that they drive value for that audience and don't just write about anything, which means there's more chance of Google seeing the site and links as valuable. By the sounds of things, this opportunity is in the first category so I'd be inclined to turn it down. Hope that helps!

  • Hi there! I'm assuming that you're seeing the traffic loss in your on-site analytics as well as in tools like SEMRush (because if not my first port-of-call would be to check your GA/similar to make sure this isn't just SEMRush seeing only part of the picture). The spam could be a factor but I think you've already addressed that. It could be worth bearing in mind that there was a core algorithm update in May so that could be a factor in the traffic change. However, a couple things interest me here. One is that you mention you've been investing less into this site - this could simply be a matter of the site being out of date and no longer a good result. The other interesting point is you mention "the next site is here". If you have been building another site targeting the same keywords and using roughly the same content, it could just be a matter of the new site taking the old site's rankings, particularly if the new site has had more recent investment. If the new site is targeting the same things as the old site, it'd probably be a good idea to redirect the old site to the new site to make sure that you have one site that's ranking on page 1 rather than two sites that are ranking page 2 and below. If the new site is something very different then I think it comes down to how willing you're willing to invest in the old one. If it's worth the time, the next thing I'd do is look at: GA to see if any pages were particularly badly hit Search console to see if there were any topics which were particularly badly hit Recent dev changes to make sure it's not a tech issue The specifics of that core ranking update (article linked above) to see if any themes jump out to you. If it seems to be sitewide then it's possible it's a dev/algorithm update issue and I'd focus on improving overall site quality. If it's localised on specific topics/pages then I'd start by focusing on how I can update that content specifically. For more specifics, this blog post by Dom Woodman is a pretty good resource. Hope that helps!

  • Hi Harol, You can identify the top players for a keyword in an area by setting a Search Profile. You can do this with the MozBar extension.  Install the MozBar Go to Google or Bing or Yahoo On the top left of the MozBar you will see a "Search Profiles" dropdown, click on the last option "Add New Profile" You don't need to fill out the whole form, you can just select Mexico, but if you want to have a more specific location, fill out more in the form Refresh the page and search

  • As Kate said above competition is different for all keywords. I find ranking for geographically specific keywords fairly easy but when I broarden that only slightly I find it very hard to compete as many more companies are targeting the same thing. The hardest thing in SEO is to identify what your customer puts into the search bar, often this is different to what we would as we are blinded by our own knowledge. Ask a child to find your site using search only and you'll soon see. I hope that helps

  • The channel profile links I saw were not direct links. If you hover over them, not click, just hover, you will see they link to the YT domain first, then go through a very odd redirect that is not recognized by normal crawlers. That is why I think you see it as a followed link ... it's a followed link to them and then weirdly redirected to you. There will not be any passed link equity from this setup as far as I can tell.

  • Hi Flavius, Thanks for the question. The main thing that you need to do is to disavow any spammy links in Google Search Console. There isn't really anything else to do beyond that, however I'd suggest keeping a close eye on a few things: Organic search traffic to the pages on your website where the links are pointing just to make sure that traffic doesn't fall Your most recent links in Google Search Console, Moz and any other link tools that you use, then try to catch any more of these spammy links that appear and add them to your disavow. Just make sure that you're only disavowing the links that are clearly spam I hope that helps! Paddy

  • Hi there, It looks like the website is pretty new and even with rankings as specific as someone's name, it can take a bit of time for rankings to get onto page one and then position one. I took a quick look at the site and it looks to be indexed fine, so I don't think you've done anything wrong in that regard. It looks like current search results for Tim's name have lots of relevant results for him which is good - Google understand that he is a person and there are plenty of non-competing results. I'd advise trying to build some links to the domain from the websites where he has profiles/mentions etc. This shouldn't be too hard given that this is his official website and therefore there is a legitimate reason for people to link. The only other thing I'd recommend aside from general SEO is to keep an eye on Google Search Console because this is where any errors or big issues will appear. I hope that helps! Paddy

  • These are two companies with two different crawlers. I did a test a while back and saw a major difference in what each backlink tracking tool reported. None are perfect and they will definitely not match each other. Sorry.

  • Hey there, Thanks so much for reaching out! So, Moz's Spam Score is the percentage of sites with similar features we've found to be penalized or banned by Google (it's not based on the spam score of the sites linking to you). To improve this score I would recommend reading our guide which explains the 27 factors used to make up this score. You can then look at your site and investigate areas you would like to improve on your site: https://moz.com/help/link-explorer/link-building/spam-score Best of luck, and let me know if I can help with anything else!

  • Many thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. If it's approximately a week to take effect, I will experiment and give it a try. Furthermore, I've decided actually to delete the website title. : ) Since my website engine (Adobe Portfolio), for some reason, places the website title in front of the page title (according to Moz Page Optimization Score crawl), my keywords appear only in the second part of the title, instead of the beginning. This way, all my titles are also too long, since the website title is added to the lenght of the page title. I am not sure if deleting is the right solution, but the only way to find out is to test.
