Should /dev folder be blocked?
Hey Ryan, It isn't really a competition thing because I bounce back to the same or better sport after about 30 days, so it seems very algorithmic. I just haven't been able to figure what/how I am getting penalized. However, this morning while looking at some rankings I noticed a dev page was indexed and in Google's rankings so I said "Ah oh...." and went to see my developer hadn't blocked out our development directory... which means if Google deep indexes a site every so often they would probably crawl it and find an exact copy of the live site... The 60-90 deep indexing would also make sense as the ranking drop has always occurred around the 27th of the month. Once I block out /dev what do you think would be the best way to get Google to re-crawl the site and perhaps remove any duplicate issues - delete out my robots.txt and sitemaps from Google and re-submit them?

How to handle crawl diagnostic errors for the same url. /products & /products/
Hey TJ, For your example there would be an easy solution: 301 redirect (it will take up a lot of time but, then you will be redirecting both users and search engines to one of the version) Canonical (it will not redirect the user, instead it will tell Search Engines that the page that they are looking for is the one specified in the canonical link) A more visual explanation of this issue can be found on a great post of Dr. Pete. Check it out: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/an-seos-guide-to-http-status-codes I hope that helped, Istvan

Has anyone noticed slight drops in the Domain mozRank of their sites since the OSE update?
A bit of a late response here, but yes, there is usually a reworking of things at each update. Rand has said that it's best to use the metrics to compare your site to a competitor each time, rather than your site to itself over time.

How can I keyword optimize for slight spelling variants, while maintaining consistency?
If your page content supports using UGC (reviews, comments, etc), this is an excellent way to get different spellings and vernacular of users into content organically. If it is written by users, then it's a very natural part of your content. As a member of the Bazaarvoice Advisory board, I see evidence of the great organic lift from reviews/customer posts over and over related to words and spellings that only UGC generates. Through this content, you optimize easily and have a chance to rank on numerous variations.

What do you think about this strategy?
So even if the website is top 2 in google--For instance usually if you type in mma training in bergen county you will see www.njtraininggrounds.com listed at sometimes the first three spots---you would still say to take some page rank away from the index page and have a followed blog from there?

Ranking bug
Sorry for the late reply here. The help desk is the best place. That said, there was a known problem with UK rankings, but I think it's taken care of. Do contact them if you have any more trouble regarding this.
