How to resolve - Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs
Hi Kaushal, Thanks for the question. There are a few ways to deal with this problem which are recommended by Google here. In summary, you can: Use parameter handling as you have done Add the nofollow attribute to problematic URLs Block problematic URLs in robots.txt There is also a thread in the Google webmaster forums which may be useful to you: https://productforums.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!category-topic/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking/CCORJBI-mEg Overall, it comes down to having a good site architecture and cutting down / removing / blocking URLs that you don't care about from a search perspective. I hope that helps a bit! Paddy

Should the whole div box be linked or individual elements within it?
Hi Kerry, This really depends, in most cases people only link the specific elements instead of the whole DIV box. For example what we did at TNW is: http://take.ms/tibb9 making the summary not clickable while the other elements in a featured posts are. I think that will make it more clear for users what they can click on instead of clicking by accident on something and then being redirected. The best answer would be to test this to see how users react to this. So set up your A/B testing tool ;-).

Two websites to merge into one - one has already been migrated - what about the second?
I would forward that old domain to the new one at the DNS level (no domain mapping) as a 301 redirect. Then you should be able to safely shut down that old blog, since you said "duplicated" content. But if the old blog URL structure is different than the new main site, and you have a significant number of links to that old Wordpress site, you might want to set up server side redirects to preserve any link juice coming from those inbound links.

If a website trades internationally and simply translates its online content from English to French, German, etc how can we ensure no duplicate content penalisations and still maintain SEO performance in each territory?
Hi David, Great question, don't be to worried. There's litle chance that Google wil penalize you if you translated unique content in to a new language. However there is a way to make sure you won't get into trouble later on and this will also make sure that the right language of the content is ranking in the right country; hreflang. By directing Google to another page for the same content in another language it will most likely rank that page for the content. More information on using HREF lang can be found here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en .

I want to block search bots in crawling all my website's pages expect for homepage. Is this rule correct?
some great answers you can also find a list of all the robots here & here Depending on your site you can also for example hide the rest of your site behind a login screen or a form which bots won't fill in.

Furniture company with 1 website or a few different ones?
Hi Tamara, Thanks for the clarification. There are special considerations when a business is a brick-and-mortar concern, but the conclusion is pretty much the same in most cases: the single site approach is simply better most of the time, enabling you to amass a great deal of authority in one place rather than having it spread thin over multiple places. You've asked a smart question!

Ideal number of internal links
Here are some resources for you. Some old and some recent. I personally only add links to a page that are helpful to anyone on that is on that particular page. How Many Links on a Page: Rand Fishkin talking about footer links for user experience. Dr. Pete talking about the number of links and how many is too many Jennifer Slegg of Search Engine Watch talking about how many links per page Footer Link Info: John Doherty, formerly with Distilled, wrote a good linking blog on Moz and it had good info on Footer links. He also did an awesome White Board Friday on Internal Linking Moz Help with Internal Links: Here is Moz's own take on internal links. http://moz.com/learn/seo/internal-link I hope some or all of this helps! Web Design - Text links better than drop down menus?
Hi, If you configure your drop-down menus for SEO by using the correct CSS technique (i.e. the links appear on the page but are activated with a hover, which I am sure you're referring to), this is fine for SEO purposes. Best to avoid hundreds and hundreds of links in drop-down menus (they can get cumbersome and bad for usability, and dilute the passed authority). If it's best for usability to have a huge drop-down but link numbers are concern, some sites use JavaScript for links that aren't important for SEO on "mega menus". As a basic rule though, you will not suffer by having some navigational links in CSS-led drop downs.

E-commerce : 1 site per country or 1 site per language?
I hear the word 'cloak' and I immediately think 'bad'. Are you doing this in some way that won't get a site penalized? I'm genuinely curious.

Redirect of https:// to http:// without SSL. Possible or not?!
If you use the sll certificate, I would add a canonical url to the site and just direct everything to the ssl site, then you will be ahead of the game when google starts promoting ssl results.

My site has dropped, I'm a little lost - help
Hi, If the notice was revoked due to you nofollowing the bad outbound links, this means that a penalty has been lifted. However, there could be other issues affecting the site that have caused its drop - ranking 8th is not an indication of a penalty - penalised websites tend to rank a lot worse than this. The inbound links Marie has cited could be part of the problem, even though you have not received a warning about them. If they are no longer helping (but were helping back when Google's standards were a little lower), then it's feasible Google has raised the rankings of other websites over yours, even though their Moz metrics have not yet caught up.
