  • If you stick the following meta tag in the of a page, Google and Bing won't show cached versions that page on search results pages: It shouldn't have any impact on SEO.  It only means that archived versions of pages won't appear be provided by the search engines on search result pages. As far as reasons to do this, we use it on pages of our site where the cached page would be blank, because the page contents are loaded by AJAX, and the cached versions wouldn't load that content.

  • I am actually experiencing how those URL parameters work - what I can tell you from this point is that you have to name those parameters more exactly - if you want to exclude the attribute "pgid", "CategoryName" etc. then that`s it what you have to use. You cant use "+", "-", "/" etc. because Google ignores that... an example: if somebody is running an ecommerce store with intershop then the system generates attributes like ";pgid" ... Google cant work with ";" so you can`t exclude this attribute using GWMT As far as I know, Google just can handle the parameter "?"... So whatever comes after your "+" take the next word, to try to exclude those URL`s anyway... You have to be patient: this will take some time to see the effect (if it works!)

  • I presume the other countries are using the same language--if that's the case, then the next question is: is anything on the page going to be different for countries #2, #3, etc.? If the answer is "no", then you can use rel=canonical on the pages for countries #2, #3, etc. pointing back at the version at your site for country #1. If the answer is "yes" (e.g. the price is different, or the currency is different, or shipping price shown is different, etc.), then set the rel=canonical to point to the URL for the current country's page. In both cases, you'll want to use rel="alternate" hreflang= tags for ALL of the countries....on ALL of the pages.  The idea here is that you're telling Google, on every page, what the other countries' versions of the pages are.  Included in that is the page for the country you're looking at now.  So, let's say you had www.bananas.com and also a version of the site in the United Arab Emirates, www.bananas.com.ae.  You've got pages www.bananas.com/peel.php and www.bananas.com.ae/peel.php.  BOTH of these pages would have: For more info on this, check out Maile Ohye's video here.

  • Hi, Hope you're enjoying your day! Can you submit this to help@moz with your account information? Can you also send us the CSV attached with the email? Once we get that information we can look into what's going on. In order for the CSV to be validated it has to match exact to your Google or FB page. You can see the requirements for our CSV's here: https://moz.com/local/help/documentation Cheers, Steffany

  • Agree totally with Matt-Antonino. This Moz post, by Dan Shure, was the one I found most helpful when trying to figure out how to index (or not index) pages and posts. http://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success The post speaks specifically to Wordpress, but concepts are transferable to any implementation.

  • What you're referring to are parameters. You can handle this in a few ways: Block the ones you don't want indexed in Webmasters Tools to prevent duplicate content. Block the ones you don't want indexed in your robots.txt file using Disallow: /*? Allow it to all be indexed and not worry about Google. This isn't as good for your SEO but if you're worried about "terms" then no, it's fine.  Just better for indexing if you do 1 or 2 above.

  • Thanks Mark and Matt, Does that mean that we will have to write the services page specifically for each city multiple times? So as to say ... stop smoking article for 4 different cities ... Another approach i was thinking of was to have page on stop smoking have links on that page where these services can be bought ... so on the right panel, we can say that these services are available in the following cities.

  • We use the All in One SEO plugin which allows us to add the Google Plus profile URL for each user. Then we go to the Google Plus user page and the blog as a place they contribute to. It seems to work pretty well for us.

  • The best advice I can give you is to check the 301 redirects. Also keep in mind that location and personalization could change the results. Try it on a few different incognito windows in Cincinnati just to be sure that it's actually lower. I know this is late, but it's also possible that Panda is moving this page lower because it looks a little templated to me. The top image looks a little bit like a stock image, for example, and I can't see a next step in the content section. If I were you, I'd insert more examples of your residential work in the page (this goes for commercial, etc. too) and try to get a call to action in the content. A large form might not be ideal, but maybe a button above the fold telling the user what to do next.

  • I don't deal with implementation or specifics of our site search, but we're on Magento and I know we've used Google site search and Solr for one of our sites. We haven't been able to find one we're really happy with.
