Can the +1 (Google plus one) Button have a BAD effect on your site?
-
Hey guys,
just wondering wether the +1 button can have a bad effect on your site?
e.g. I implement the button on a site and then it will get only a few or none +1s.
another question is wether it is good to implement it on every site/subsite?
furthermore: Is it better for the ranking to get +1s for one site or better to get few on every subdomain/subsite (deeplinks)
Thanks for your answers!

Yes, I've read that people have had problems with it hurting your page load speed

The +1 button was intended as a positive ranking signal, and I don't think it will ever hurt your rankings. Bruce Clay jokingly referred to it as a +1 to load times, and that's where you might see the difference.
The "block site" option, on the other hand, can be a negative ranking signal when it's used frequently for your site.

Yeah good point about the "block site" option.

Bryce said what I was going to say! Expect little longer load times.
Also, unless you are getting a ton of +1's, I would not use it. There is nothing like having pages with 0 people liking them.

Is the page load speed that dramatic, though? Just like other scripts on the web, it's very likely that it's already cached in the user's browser. I definitely wouldn't worry too much about load times if I have the +1 on my site...it's highly likely that there are other items that need to be optimized before worrying about it. In fact, Google is very picky about speed and I can imagine that it probably loads a lot better than Facebook's like / recommendation system.

Sry for my missuse of words: I meant every page/subpage !
So is it better for the ranking to get +1s for one page or to get a few on every page ?
Thanks a lot, it has helped so far!
