      Hi Guys,

I have launched my website in october and it has already been indexed by google.

Now I'm going to launch my redesign which comes with a new structure, content, links, etc.

So the question is, do I have to resubmit my website to google to get rid of old links?

Onsite Explorer shows links to my forum which has been spammed with p* stuff which has been already indexed as well. The forum is off now.

I want to use SEOmoz to track my new website but I guess this could be a hard thing as old links etc will be shown as well.

Is there any tool to let Google know about my changes?

Does it affect my SEO in any way?

      Thank you for your help.

      Nick

I'm not sure I understand your question. You want to get rid of old links? Generally you want to keep them by using a 301 redirect from old pages and have them point to your new pages.

Submitting to Google is of no value. To help Google recognize your new site you just want to get your site some external links on high authority and relevant sites.

You could do a press release for example or find a blogger in your industry that you might be able to write for.

          Hi,

          Thanks for your reply!

In fact, I'm more worried about the old already indexed links in Google. I guess they could harm more than helping my site.

I understand that I'm able to set a redirect but do I have to redirect each single page? There are a lot of site indexed already. Also the same content will appear on the new release but on a different link structure. So I'm a bit worried about getting a penalty by google for duplicate content.

I hope you see what I mean.

The old links that are already in google need to be given a "forwarding address" (301 redirect) to the equivalent page on your new site. The user goes to the relevant page, and all is good.

If there is something common between the old site and the new site in the URL (where each had /productabc/ in the URL) then you can set up a rewrite rule with a regular expression that will take care of a bunch of the URLs at once. Otherwise, you do need to rewrite them individually.

            • We added hundreds of pages to our website & restructured the layout to include 3 additional locations within the sub-pages, same brand/domain name. How long could Google take to crawl/index the new pages and rank the keywords used within those pages?

            • We're considering making notable changes to our website's navigation. Other than 301 redirects from old pages to new, what do I need to consider with this type of move or update?
