      Hello,

      We've noticed that when we do a specific search (print screen attached), that the business name and/or a completely different title is getting indexed into the search engine that we are not setting.

      Below is an example from the source code of how we're setting the title, this matches the 2nd listing circled in the attached image.  The indexed title tag reflects "Animal Business Card Holders - Kyle Design"

      Any ideas or feedback on how this is happening?

      <title>Animal Business Card Cases in Pet, Insect and Wildlife Designstitle>
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
      <meta name="description" content="Eye-catching business card holder cases personalized with custom animal designs for humane professionals and pet owners. Custom select a sleek metal finish, bold aluminum or iridescent accent color, size and unique design for the ultimate self-expressing animal gift!" />
      <meta name="keywords" content="business card holder unique personalized custom holders silver gold wood metal cards cases sleek aluminum engraved contemporary case animal animals design designs black color accents iridescent pet insect wildlife cat dog dragonfly butterfly lions sea turtles sea otters elephants animal lover animal activist zoologist veterinarian breeder animal whisperer thin deep large credit Asian size engraving personalize gift gifts special monogram customized corporate logo name professional title meaningful sentiment" />
      <meta name="copyright" content="Copyright Kyle Design" />

      <meta name="author" content="Kyle Design" />
      <meta name="generator" content="xyz Commerce System http://www.domain.com/" />
      <link rel="canonical" href="xyz link"
      <script type="text/javaScript">

      Thanks,
      Jamie

          If you just recently updated the page title, it might take a little while for it to update in the search results - could this possibly be the case?

            The pages have not been updated in quit some time, we are talking over a year that the company name was in the title.   When you do the search for, monkey business card holder kyle, in Google.   There are several results that display for the site, the question is for the ones that are appending - Kyle Design

            One of the indexed pages results is showing:

            Animal Business Card Holders - Kyle Design
            "Long Little Dog" Dachshund Case for Business and Credit Cards. $24.95 ... kyledesigns.com>OFFICE>Business_Card_Holders

            We have set the title to:(the source code can be seen in initial post)
            Animal Business Card Cases in Pet, Insect and Wildlife Design
            Just unsure why our title is being over-ridden since we are setting it.  We noticed with several indexed pages, and are just trying to eliminate this issue to ensure the title we want is what is appearing in the Google SERPs

              That's and interesting issue.  If you do a site search that page has the title you specify in your title tag (see screen shot).  You do have the phrase "Animal Business Card Holders" on your page.  Google will create their own title tags for your page if you don't have one (you do), or if they think the title isn't appropriate for the page. Duplicate pages will sometimes create a situation where Google creates their own title.

              The addition of Kyle Designs to the title is interesting. I have no idea on that one, but I am looking forward to other responses on it.

                could it be in code.
                I used to append my city on the end of titles if they were short enouth. Are you sure no one has coded this?

                  We actually have an area that would add the company name, but it was removed over a year ago.  We are certain that are system is not appending it to the end of the title tag.

                    As Barry's blog post title says, you're not alone with Google not always listening to your title tag. He has a post about it on Search Engine Roundtable at http://www.seroundtable.com/google-title-selection-12989.html. In short, it's Google, it's not you.

                    • In our reports we get alt tag errors for our banner images. We are unable to add alt tags to the banner images as they live inside CSS. We can add a title tag on the div title for the banner. Does that help with SEO and accessibility?
