SEO & URL parameters on external links
-
Hey guys!
I've got a quick question:
We are getting some guest posting opportunities with a few big sites in our space...
In those guest posts we will also have to chance to link back to 1-2 articles of ours and to our main site.Should I use UTM parameters to track how many clicks we get or will this in any way negatively affect our SEO benefits?
Hope you guys know what I mean. I found tons of articles on this but mostly about inbound links... which isn't the case here.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I would not recommend adding utm in backlinks. You can track the traffic from Google analytics without adding utm.
But for some reason if you still want to add use Google search console to let Google know that it doesn’t change the content by going Crawl>> URL parameters>> (best thing I come up with but won’t recommend).

Ok, thanks for the answer.
What's the main reason for not doing it? (just want to understand it

I agree with Asif. I would not do this because parameters become a briarpatch without creating them.
You should be able to use Google Analytics or other analytics to see where your traffic is coming from.
