      Hi there,

Our agency currently manage all clients'  Google Analytics under a unique google account (meaning just one email) --> googleanalytics@nameofagency.com

Since we create for each client/account many advanced segments, we are now having tens of segments mixed all together.

The problem is that there is apparently no way to order the advanced segments created by Google in a non-random way (please tell me if there is some rational criterium in how google show them). The final result is that it's becoming pretty messy and inefficient to use them.

The only alternative I see is to tie to each client analytics a different email and not manage them., ex googleanalytics.client1@nameofagency.com, googleanalytics.client2@nameofagency.com, etc

But I see a lot of disadvantages in doing it.

Any thoughts/solutions ? How is your agency managing the different clients' account ?

      Thank you guys !

I would probably go down the route of creating separate accounts and attach them to the main account like client1@agency.com etc.. althought this does mean that you would have to log into each account to access different analytics. It is good practice though to seperate clients like this.

Otherwise you could create a custom naming structure for each advanced segment so they are easily viewable and manageable such as :

        Advanced Segment 1 [Client 1]

        Advanced Segment 1 [Client 2]

        etc..

I feel your pain, but I do not know from my own knowledge if there is a way of categorising advanced segments properly.

First, I agree, the advanced segment list can get pretty messy. And there's no easy way to reorder or structure them.

Still, we've managed to keep it slightly under control with some rules.

Here's how we do it at Distilled:

When creating an advanced segment there's a "more options" toward the end of the creation process. In here you can select whether that segment will be available to all profiles, or a select few. (see image)

Now, we have do have some advanced segments that are available to all profiles. Those are the common ones that might be useful to any website. (Quick access segments like Google Organic, Macs, 2 or 3 word keywords, US visitors only, etc.)

Otherwise, whenever we create one that is specific to the client's site, we select only their profile(s) in the more options list.

You should end up with the top of your custom segment list as your "any profile" segments, and the ones at the bottom are client specific.

You can do this retroactively by editing segments. It can be time consuming, but you'll only have to do it once - assuming you properly assign all new segments moving forward.

          Mike
