Theory: Local Keywords are Hurting National Rankings?
Thanks for the response Chris. My assumption is the same as yours in that doing some type of local SEO for just one distinct city shouldn't hurt broad national rankings. The interesting thing about this situation is the competitor site makes no note of any locality at all, they're not trying to scale local rankings nationally - they just don't mention it. While my client's site and a 3rd competitor focus on 1-2 cities and don't do as well as the non-local company. Thanks for your input and hope to continue to hear from others!

Local cTLD site not showing up in local SERP
Update: Still no improvements in the results even after all the changes have been implemented. Anyone with other suggestions perhaps?

Optimizing dog walking site for search phrase "dog walkers nyc"
Personally I wouldn't optimize both pages for a single keyword. As Matt says, that is a good way to look spammy. That being said, you probably want to build out your site with other options for potential clients since a single page targeting dog walkers in NYC will not do much to help your overall traffic. It will work well as a lead-generation page, however, so as I said earlier, you probably want to work on converting those folks who come to your website rather than focusing on generating enormous amounts of traffic. Also, to underline Matt's point, don't use exact match keyword targeting since that will look unnatural. I would personally look for relevant keywords that people are searching for - a great method for this can be found in this article: | http://neilpatel.com/2015/11/21/5-steps-to-building-a-successful-organic-traffic-pipeline/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email | Use this method to develop pages that follow user intent when they are looking for dog walking services and generate some pages with respect to those questions. You will improve your website's UX and increase your overall conversion potential. Best of luck moving forward! | http://neilpatel.com/2015/11/21/5-steps-to-building-a-successful-organic-traffic-pipeline/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email |

Choosing the best domain for international website section
Thanks. IP base redirection is many times inaccurate. The IP address is perfect, especially in regions like Europe. IN addition to that, immediate IP based redirection does not allow Google to crawl other country content as Google bot only crawls with a US IP address. As for hreflang, given your answers, it's not of use to you because either you are targeting countries without multiple languages or don't have the means to translate everything. OR your business is best for geo-targeting only (different product offerings, etc) and are not focusing on countries with more than one official language. hreflang is only intended for use between pages of the exact same content that have been translated. If your products change or there is something else different and that depends on the country, geo-targeting is needed. Since that content changes and there are not multiple languages needed for each country, you do not need hreflang. Based on your business, or your answers in that tool, you should either launch ccTLDs or use the main domain and use country based subfolders. domain.com/es (Spain) domain.com/mx (Mexico) A ccTLD (.com.mx) is a strong signal for targeting to that country, but it is a brand new domain, and totally separate from other domains. This means you have to work harder to build up both domains, but given the right amount of work and dedication, these will be a stronger signal of targeting that country. That's why top companies pick those. However, if you want to utilize the strength of your current gTLD (which I assume is generic ie .com, .net - not country focused), a folder structure that is based on country will allow you to use the strength of the main domain. You will need to ensure each subfolder is claimed in Google and Bing Webmaster Tools and geo-targeted. The ccTLDs do this automatically but subfolders have to be set up manually if they are targeting a country. I hope this helps!

Can PPC harm SEO results, even if it's off-domain?
Please be careful invoking the names of Google employees, unless you can provide an exact quote or verifiable source. Many of us have contacts at Google, and it's easy to misinterpret what they say, either publicly or privately. A statement like "JM has told me personally..." creates an air of false credibility that can lead people to the wrong conclusions, especially when you're paraphrasing. I do agree that cross-channel awareness is important and there are many indirect ways in which paid search campaigns can influence (both positively and negatively) organic campaigns, but I don't want people to read this as meaning that paying for ads automatically boosts your organic ranking. That's a myth that too many people rush to believe, IMO.

Schema markup for a local directory listing and Web Site name
Thanks Everett! Makes sense and the examples from your site were very helpful. We realized that we needed to add G+ and Linked in to our "sameAs" list as well.

Traffic drop for all clients
Hello In my experience ,year after Year. Traffic always drops down a bit around october, It will drop down even more as we approach Thanks Giving and Christmas and New Years. The holidays can take a toll on personal computer usage as the upcoming spending will draw much attention.. E commerce sites and retail stores websites may see a rise in traffic as consumers shop for that perfect gift for a loved one.. However the end of the Holidays does not automatically bring back all the traffic, It remains little withdrawn until february and some cases march ..Recooperation ,They say...

I second Rosemary's request. I'm looking to better understand schema and tend to learn better through instruction. If anyone's willing to teach a course, I'd definitely consider attending. Kevin and Tim, thanks for the resources.

Which is the best, ".xx" or ".com.xx" in general and for SEO?
I don't know that it much matters. The localization signal from just the ccTLD is not terribly strong but it should be the same for both the older .com.xx as well as the newer .xx For purely aesthetic reasons I would choose .xx

How to create sites with powerful individual pages to achieve top results.
My pleasure, Azael. That is problem faced by pretty much all small business owners - finding the time to run their business and manage their marketing. This is why many companies budget, if they can, to hire experts to help with the marketing, but other business owners prefer to take the hands-on approach of doing it all themselves or doing it all in-house ... and in the end, that can sometimes be the strongest strategy, because the business owner ends up being educated in totally new ways about his business. Good luck with the work ahead!

Looking For A Chicago Marketing Agency
If you are looking for Moz recommended companies, I would say all of them are amazing and as you said you are in the limo business, In my opinion its not the business that need a consultant within your area. I would say try distilled or SEER Interactive, they have the kind of people in their companies who are experts of the game.

Local SEO for National Brands
Hi Caleb! That's a good question. It's very important for me to state here that Moz Local is not a ranking tool. We do not guarantee rankings in any way. Likely, you already know this, but just wanted to be sure this was clear. Whether using a tool or working manually, citations are built for 2 main reasons: To build up the 'trust' it is perceived that Google places in widely available, correct business NAP+W. To help customers locate your business on a variety of platforms. #1 is believed to help you with your Google local pack rankings and #2 is believed to directly market to customers on platforms they frequently use (like Yelp or Facebook). Citations are not widely recognized as a means for improving organic or national rankings. So, in your case, as you don't really see customers between normal business hours, citation building may not be the most important investment for your business. On the other hand, if you have a B2B relationship and your business associates are coming to your office between normal business hours, citation building could help them find you in the local packs of results. Additionally, citations are normally listed in the organic results below the main result for a branded search, so, it could be postulated that this could help B2B customers feel more secure about how established your business is. But, it would not like help you rank better for your software keywords. *However, there is one grey area related to this that deserves mention. The majority of citations include a link to the business website. So, in a sense, citation building is a form of link building. It would be possible, then, to parlay that out into thinking that earning citations means you've earned some new links for the business, right? And links do influence organic rank, right? But, it's my gut feeling that, because the links contain in citations are not merit-based (in other words, you're not actually earning them based on something great you've done) they probably do not have a ton of value in the current, more sophisticated Google environment. Could they help at all? My guess is that they might be of minimal help, but that you would likely benefit more organically from other efforts. Hope this helps!
