  • What an interesting answer, for somebody to give you an actual working and working reply is fantastic. To be perfectly honest I just tend to keep my head down and work on my own websites and do a little bit of social media because I enjoy it.and It seems to working for me.

  • What Adrian said. The Open Graph is "a way to link these." This question should be marked as "Answered."

  • Tossing this idea out for discussion.... One way that google detects manipulation is the presence of links that point to entirely unrelated websites - especially if they have optimized anchor text.  A link like that could paint a small target on either site. Is it worth the small risk?

  • Article posting is mostly a waste of time. dont bother posting to sites that are made just for placing articles. Rtry to get your article placed on a relevant site or blog that is not built just for that purpose.

  • If I understand correctly you want to ensure that a piece of content triggers a Google alert. If that is the case you want to make sure that you ping as many services as possible when you publish new content you also want make sure you submit your RSS feeds to any relevant RSS services this will increase the likelihood a new web page is crawled and indexed and ultimately triggers an alert.

  • If you want to have the same content in different language or different content in different language, the best option is to go for ccTLDs like yoursite.gr for German, yoursite.fr for French etc. But this arrangement requires lot of investment in terms of money and other resources and is not feasible for everyone. So you can go either for a sub-domain or sub-directory structure like: fr.yoursite.com or yoursite.com/fr - French gr.yoursite.com or yoursite.com/gr - German For more details you may read http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.in/2010/03/working-with-multi-regional-websites.html Regards

  • There is a basic SEO rule: content should only be available via a single URL on your website. There are some legitimate reasons to break that rule. If that happens, you need to take additional action such as use the canonical tag to identify the primary page. Your home page situation is NOT a legitimate reason to break that rule. It's poor web design. It needs to be fixed. OSE is doing its job correctly. OSE is calling your attention to a SEO issue which requires your attention. SOLUTION: Remove all references to the /index.php page on your site and replace them with the / page. Also add a 301 redirect from the index.php page to the / page so anyone who bookmarked or linked to the /index.php page is seamlessly taken to your home page.

  • Not familiar with the exact study but, if this type of thing interests you it would make sense to follow Derek Halpern at: socialtriggers.com. Also Jay Baer's convinceandconvert.com.

  • Hi Again Emerald, I hope we are all understanding your question better after the further details you have provided. As you answered all of my 4 questions - positively - for your city in Spain, then there is no reason why you cannot engage in a Local Search campaign. When I search, from my computer in the USA, for 'travel agency madrid, spain' Google shows me local results for that city. So, yes, it is certainly possible for you to do this. You will want to make sure that your website has basic local optimization in place and then get the business listed in Google Places and other relevant local business indexes. On a final note, I need to mention that I would not recommend setting up any virtual offices either in the USA or Spain as this would violate Google's Places Quality Guidelines. See: http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528 Hope this helps! Miriam

  • Hi Dylan! So I'd definitely say that having people +1 a specific page is going to be useful because it will show up in the SERPs if it's relevant to the query. However, check out this post from Rishi: How to Get a Celebrity to Endorse ALL You Products on Google. He shows where Aaron Wall shows up as +1ing the UK ebay site, but he never did. He did however +1 the US site. So Google is showing his +1 for essentially any page on the subdomain. Major takeaways: He DID plus eBay.com, and NOT .co.uk. Google merged it to the .co.uk domain. He later REMOVED his plus. Google ignored the fact. He plussed the root domain. Google indicates that he plussed  the SPECIFIC Ad Page. Its false endorsement, manipulated by Google. In other words, it may not even matter! Hope this helps. Jen

  • Hi there, The great thing about social media is that honesty goes a long way, and honesty is simple. People will reply when you ask them in the medium you're interested in pushing, although my experience is that Facebook is sometimes a better place to ask for feedback than Twitter. This is because Twitter moves very fast, and if you ask a question, it can be gone from people's streams less than ten minutes. Facebook posts tend to be in front of people for longer, and can receive more replies over time. Do you engage in any email marketing at present? If you have relatively engaged audiences via email, you could ask people their opinions in this way too, although your reply rate is probably going to be much lower than via Facebook, and even Twitter. Lastly, many sites find that on-site surveys (not the pop-up kind, but trusted brands can often get away with this too) find success in writing blog posts with surveys attached, or even including small surveys in sidebars, like M&S are currently doing on http://social.marksandspencer.com/ under "Latest Poll." You'd need something a little more robust than that to allow actual feedback, however. It's still an option when promoting a survey or questionnaire.

  • It's important to look at Twitter as a way to engage with your fans and get your content out there rather than solely as a way to increase your rankings. If you're not there to interact with people, you'll find that they get uninterested quickly. The same goes for Facebook, Google+, etc. I love the idea that Aran mentioned about having a Youtube channel. You can do a lot with that and even could post the videos on your site and tweet those links. One of the greatest things I've found though is to simply ask! Ask your Twitter followers what they'd like to see from you on Twitter. People LOVE giving their opinions so I'm sure you'll get some feedback. You could try that on Facebook and Google+ as well. The idea really is to get a group of fans who are interested in what you're writing about or posting on your site as well. Maybe it's tour dates, or posts about your concerts, but something that gets people interested enough to tweet and retweet. Hope this helps a bit! Jen

  • I would focus on local citations as much as possible and until all relevant places have been covered. While you're at it you will score links as well so probably the best way to start as it's easy and ROI is fairly good. Next step is identifying best branding channels - a very broad and difficult question - I guess your client's budget will be the helping factor and you'll have to decide what to attack first in line with budget size. Prioritisation is not easy and you will no doubt hit the wall many times before you find the right solution.
