  • Indeed, the general consensus seems to be to host a blog at eg. mydomain.com/blog Depends on the purpose of the blog really, plus the relevance to the main website. Sometimes a subdomain is the better option. RE. a 301 Redirect from  mydomain.com/blog  to  mydomain.com/v/blog  it will make very little if any difference on the SEO side, so long as any inbound links to your blog to go straight to the actual location rather than through a redirect (thus not loosing any link juice through the redirect). On the Usability side, the /v/ directory will likely be confusing to some people as to what it actually means, they won't know the reasons for it being there. So likely no direct issue on the SEO side, however may put a few people off on the Usability side. Hope that helps, Regards Simon

  • It seems like Google likes the newer Schema.org markup. But, they still crawl the Open Graph I believe. The OG tags do help Facebook categorize shared links though. Personally, I'm switching my OG tags and implementing the Schema markup. If Google likes that better for their rich snippets, I'm going to make the change. Here's a Google link about it http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1211158 Paragraph from Google "Facebook Open Graph serves its purpose well, but it doesn't provide the detailed information search engines need to improve the user experience. A single web page may have many components, and it may talk about more than one thing. Even if you mark up your content for Facebook Open Graph, schema.org provides an additional way to provide more detail about particular entities on the page." - Google

  • There's really no way to force people who embed your video to link to your website. The best you can do is encourage them to do so within the content of the video itself. Maybe it would be beneficial to play around with how you present your website in your videos. Pay attention to what works and keep improving on that.

  • Hi Sara! I'm not sure that adding keywords to the title will help much for SEO purposes. It may look a bit spammy actually, and I'm not sure you want your Facebook page to rank (or possibly outrank you) for your keywords. But the main thing is that most people when they link to your Facebook page they'll normally use the anchor text of "brand name" or "brand name on facebook" or sometimes just "Facebook". I think just adding your brand name is good as it helps for those brand queries. Hope this helps! Jen

  • Hey, I researched this a few months ago and the best I could find was Buzzstream http://www.buzzstream.com/ It was cool because it would crawl a website and scrape the contact information, Twitter & Facebook URLs. One of the manager's gave me a webinar about how to use it effectively. It wasnt perfect, but it was the best I found.

  • I've used some social bookmarking sites but have found that it can be tricky to keep up on a lot of them. I know for a lot of people things like stumble upon, delicious, reddit, digg, etc. work well. It also depends on your industry. I would recommend whatever you do use, make sure you are getting involved in the site and not just quickly going there to get a link. Get involved and use it for what it's meant to be used for. Good luck.

  • Without more details on your ads, and what they said specifically, I doubt you will find much help. When a company sends you a generic disapproval message, it's because they decided they don't want to waste human resources on explaining things that are clearly outlined. Google Adwords/Adsense is the same way. I would suggest looking over the terms carefully again. Sorry, wish I could help more. Maybe link us to some examples.

  • Hey Roy, It's an interesting debate. On one hand, every page can be a landing page so you want to maximize opportunities. On the other, how much is too much. I guess you could put it all over and measure it's usage and make a decision based on that?

  • You're welcome Luke. Not seen any testing about the importance of those counters with respect to Google. I'm not sure they would have an effect...if Google can find the links in tweets etc. I don't think it would need to 'check' what a page says/claims the number of tweets is too. I see those counters as more of a signal to human visitors...the 'implicit message of 100 tweets on a counter is: 'hey this is great, it got a hundred tweets, you should read it!'

  • We've got plenty of bloggers lined up already. I wanted to get some feedback from folks who might have done a similar blogger challenge before, how it worked out for them, and if we weren't missing any crucial details.

  • Thanks for your insight.  I find it interesting that people who follow companies will follow them across multiple platforms and desire unique info from each. I thought that people choose their favorite method of getting information and want to be able to get it all using that method.  The idea that I need to watch a company through all the different social platforms to get a full spread of content is annoying to me.
