  • Hi Andrew, Just to clarify your question - do you mean if you you optimise a page, e.g. a category page, will your internal subsequent pages, e.g. sub categories pages, do stronger as a result? Rikki

  • It is, but then again, that is what you're trying to do, whether it's through JS or the nofollow attribute. Matt Cutts recommends letting PageRank flow freely around the website, and only nofollow links that don't make sense for the search engine to crawl, like a login page or the shopping cart. I would go with that since, as Eric Enge points out, they probably filter stuff like navigation and footer links anyway.

  • A page to page redirect from the old site to the new site is the ideal but you might cut corners by just redirecting those pages that are bringing you in search traffic and those that have external links to them.  You don't need to put any redirects on the new site's .htaccess file, though.  The traffic from the old site will already knows which page to request based on your changes to the old site's .htaccess file. Best practice is to leave your 301 redirect in place is 180 days. More info on redirects

  • Hi Richard, Having the link positioned in the upper navigation will help ensure that the search engines view that link as important. Just as importantly, it helps consumers know that the link and information in the blog is important. Placing links in the footer only remove them from visibility considerably, and search engines can detect link placement on the page, placing less weight or value on that link. Also, if you are building high quality content in your blog to engage consumers then having that link in an appropriate area increases the potential of your audience finding that content, engaging with it, and supporting what you. Good luck in business!

  • You can but you don't have to. There is a small benefit to having a ccTLD on an IP that has a reverse DNS to that country. The main reason to have a different IP, however, is different demographics. If your .com is aimed at the US market then it needs to be hosted in the US because it lowers latency. Same with your UK market, your Austrailian market, etc. Lower latency is better. That doesn't mean you HAVE to do it. You can host all of it in the US and still rank well. It just doesn't have those extra signals so it's a bit more work, but not greatly more-so than setting up these different IPs.

  • Hi, I just did a check on your site. It is showing that it has W3C validation errors for the HTML/XTML and that the page size is just a tiny bit over the recommended (a very tiny bit). Perhaps those two things are enough to through it to the bottom? Thanks, Christine DeGrafff

  • Hi Bradley, Care to give us the site and an example of some of the errors?

  • Hi Chanel27, Kudos to you for wanting to hire a designer with Local SEO savvy. I think this is a very important choice for local businesses as design firms that work mainly with virtual businesses will often not know how to properly organize and optimize a local business website. I highly recommend that you visit the Trusted Providers list at GetListed.org. Visit the websites of the companies listed there, all of whom have recognized Local SEO expertise, and see which of them offer design. Some only do consulting or Local Search Marketing, but some also do design and would be good candidates for the project you describe. Once you've narrowed down your options to firms on that list who offer local business website design, you might like to have a chat with a few of them to see which ones really 'click' with you. Here's the link: https://getlisted.org/static/resources/trustedproviders.html I personally know many of the business owners on GetListed's Trusted Provider list and can say with certainty that you should be in good hands with anyone you choose from that list. Good question and good luck!

  • Google is not going to render the animations, nor your loading image. So in terms of spidering, that shouldn't be a big deal. The site seemed to be relatively fast in loading but I noticed you're not using a CDN to load all that extra content. I would highly recommend moving all that off to something like Amazon CloudFront. That should help your load times some. Your site uses HTML5 so you might want to look into asynchronously loading some of your scripts. I noticed in Firebug that several scripts spent a long time being blocked (notably some Google scripts I didn't recognize)

  • I apologize for not seeing this somehow it passed right over me.  The large advantages for using a managed WordPress host our primarily speed, security in the form of powerful firewalls and if they get through that which they do very rarely do every one of them uses http://sucuri.net/  this allows them to know if there's any malware on your site and have it cleaned and running perfectly at no cost to you. You get hosting that is built around just WordPress an incredible abundance of WordPress knowledge at your fingertips and the idea of you have enough toward about without having to spend what would amount to a real lot of money in order to get a WordPress site to load in under one or two seconds consistently both nationally and internationally. I highly encourage you to read not just the pages I've sent you, but everything on the sites that are about the host. http://wpengine.com/fast-page-loads/ https://www.zippykid.com/benefits/speed-fast-wordpress-host/ https://www.zippykid.com/benefits/ http://websynthesis.com/features/ https://page.ly/features/ For instance I'm currently writing a Moz blog post on the subject so I can't give out too much information or I'd be self plagiarizing I know it's unfortunate. I best advice is go to their websites I think everyone of them has a done a wonderful job of informing people of their benefits. I also should tell you that I have an account with every company am about to mention. You cannot go wrong with any of them. Pay attention to the band with and page views you are allotted and know that some of them are maybe a better value than others. Regardless you can rest assured that all of them will do a great job.  My other piece of advice is contact them and ask them why they're the one you should pick. Take a lot into account as to how much time they take to get back to you I will mention this is public knowledge automatic has invested in both WP engine and Zippykid. However web synthesis is still an excellent choice as is Page.ly  All of them run on top-quality hardware and are built only to host WordPress because WordPress has a database unlike a pure HTML website the time it takes to access the database with caching on the server where somebody has spent a great deal of money to have that website cache so in the event of a person going to another page you have removed what made WordPress slower in the 1st place many of them have content delivery networks built-in the ones that have CDN's built-in also have a lot more going on on the server side meaning you have a faster host the more solid website. all of them use Nginx instead of Apache you can run a website with 10,000 visitors on  Nginx with merely 2 MB of RAM Apache uses far more than that for 5 people. I hope you can do some more research I recommend using this as a research tool as well because I cannot use my own content look at the hosting section on my website there's an FAQ at the top as well just click the FAQ you may also private message me of course if you have any particular questions that I cannot answer here I'm sorry for that. http://www.blueprintmarketing.com/hosting/

  • I agree with Mike, although I think you'll find that using a tool like ranks.nl will give you an idea if you've gone too heavy with one or the other. Honestly from my experience, a naturally-written site about a main keyword that happens to be the subject will have said keyword appearing at about 1-2.75% This includes bold, alt, title, url, ahref, everything.. all weighted differently by ranks.nl which is a great tool. But use it as a secondary means. Read it first, like Mike said, to make sure it sounds human.

  • Kentaro is correct. Google does have a page layout aspect to its algorithm.  The known aspects are the frequency and placement of those ads.  If a page is too ad heavy, or if the ads are placed in a way that destroys the user experience you can rank lower. If your page looks like this you could have problems: ads ads ads ads content ads ads ads ads

  • Hi Cesar, I run a forum with over 30k threads, 187k posts, and just south of 92k members, and from my experience (good/bad), find a hosting company that specializes in hosting forums.  Yes, there are companies that cater to forum hosting and forum maintenance.  You should expect to pay a premium for the service, but it's well worth the seed investment, especially if you are planning to monetize the traffic long-term.  Plan on isolating the forum from any other websites you might want to host on the same server (dedicated or virtual), as this will keep issues to a minimum. Also, pick a forum software that has regular updates, patches, and access to active supporting members of that software.  Going with a free forum software is not always so attractive, when issues arise.  Some issues include corrupt databases, hacks, and forum membership difficulties.  The company I host my forum with today even assisted me with exporting, transferring, and reconnecting my very large MySQL database. So, hosting a Forum is just a bit different than a Wordpress website, but if you take care of the upfront investment, things will work out just fine for you.  Good luck with celebrity and let us know who it is, when you can announce Suggestions, as you have requested: Forum Software: http://www.vbulletin.com Forum Themes: There are lots to pick from, but you might look into a custom theme for your celebrity. Forum AdSense: I've hand coded Adsense into the include file, to keep it simple and clean.  Similar to Wordpress, there are plugins that make it easy for vbulletin ad placement too. Forum Hosting: Private message me and I'll make a suggestion.

  • It's indeed not something people would look for.. Very difficult problem you have there, at least it's good that you're making changes to it. Don't forget to set a 301 redirect to the new page on any page you delete and if there is no new page then to the most relevant or the home page. From what you told me i don't think it is an option to rebuild the entire site. The structure which is now there is way too difficult to change as much as it should in order for the best results. The swingset website doesn't have very big descriptions either. I think you can make some good improvements on that area at least. There is one webshop in particular which i always use as a reference for how much content you should have on a product and that is vat19.com. Not only is their marketing strategy perfect for their target audience. They offer so much information about their products. Images, text, specifications and video. I hope i helped you at all with your problems and if you have any other questions or need more advice or a brainstorm partner let me know either in this thread (if it's relevant) or in a new thread (the you could send me a private message to let me know where to find it :)) or you could of course send me a private message directly, but then other people couldn't benefit from the problems and solutions we found. Good luck with .. well everything

  • Hey Chris, Even I had the same reaction when I first started with this company, Why would you need all these sites...With the exact same content. They have different plans and ideas or probably misguided by some SEO guy! Regarding the vast number of links from the forum, None of the backlink tools like OSE, Ahrefs is showing those links apart from GWT. I'm thinking to Disavow that forum's domain. Hopefully, that should work!! Thank for the response.

  • Go to majestic SEO, type your url in.  If your keywords you got penalized for are over 10% diversity you are being penalized generally, however there are a few exceptions, but not many.  I analyzed 440 sites and found that the highest was 2.47 for a site that didn't have keywords in the url. Also, I suggest you read this http://dailyseotip.com/what-other-marketing-firms-want-you-to-believe-that-isnt-true/3356/  I see that you are really focused on Onpage SEO.  I think this will help you understand more. The next thing you may want to do is start contacting admins and deleting low quality links if you have them.  Use OSE and figure out low quality links.  There are only a handful of directories I recommend out their.  I have a message from Google telling one of my clients to get rid of their directory links, it was and example link coming from a directory site to be exact.  Never use a keyword at a directory site, always use Brand name or your URL. Make sure your Disavow is your last resort and I highly suggest you get someone to do it that has experience in it.  Many have messed this up and really hurt their website. Have a great day.

  • This is probably the best advice you will get, because, everyone has a bias answer about who is the best at something.  SEOMOZ has a great list, sure there are many not on their, but take a look at that and you may find one you really like. Do the following 1. Scroll to the bottom of your page. 2. Click Recommended Companies 3. Click web design and choose for yourself.

  • I tend to use this quite a lot; It does not harm Search Engines, what is important is that only inline elements are contained within an H1 tag, that is span is a perfectly valid element, however a div is not. In your case you should use multiple spans with separate class names. You should also consider splitting it into H1 / H2 depending on your site structure and navigation as it might make more sense in some cases.
