  • If your site is ranking "well", well enough for you I mean don't change anything if users are finding there way to what they want. Now for the noindex-follow tag that will not rank the certain pages in the serps but the links on the page will pass pagerank . For the nofollow-noindex or nofollow-index will just hurt the site rankings as they are average pagerank 4 cutting of the power of the posts in the certain category-tag pages not passing any link juice. The best thing to do is leave the pages as is. If the category-tag pages rank better than the posts then i would just noindex them leaving follow on the pages to pass juice towards the posts.

  • Hello Vanessa, I recently discovered a tool that might also answer your question. It's called KeySR (keywordsearchrankings.com) and it was launched a few months ago. Basically the tool crawls search engines from almost any location in the world and reveals Google search rankings as they are displayed to any user from that specific location. Even though my answer comes a little late, I hope you'll find it useful.

  • Have you looked at the hosting country of all websites concerned? I have a .co.uk site that appears in .ca even though it's very directly targeting the UK but is hosted on a dedicated server in Canada. The other thing to consider is that possibly these sites outranking you in google.ca are targeting .ca in their Webmaster tools, even if it's hard to tell who'd they be targeting based on the sites themselves.

  • No. We are just telling the search engine that the German version of the website (www.example.com) is located at www.example.com/de/ So all the pages/folders originating from that directory become the part of this process. (www.example.com/de/2ndpage OR www.example.com/de/another-page.html )

  • Klarke, Thanks for the response. I guess I should have just reasoned it out.  The statistics are staggeringly in favor of Used Cars over either of the other two (see image). This might even be worth getting a permanent change in place away from our standard of Used Inventory. Google%20Trends.JPG

  • 20% is repeat traffic. 80% is new. In past 2 weeks impressions increased around 30-35% and the only thing I can attribute the change to is the interactive stuff. I have what you may call a niche market. All the competitors out there are focusing on selling products, we're offering a service on top of education. In many cases we're sharing the stuff the product companies would never want clients to know. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared once other competitors arise, and I'm sure they're coming. It would be good to find out about the correlation of Time on Page vs. Rankings from others that have tested this. I'll be sure to post an update in a couple of weeks.

  • Yes, you can try but there is no surety that it will start showing a snippet of your website at the right side panel.

  • I think that changing the content a bit could be the trick, keeping a site fresh is pretty important.  Do you feel you've done any link building that could be considered spammy?  Be honest with yourself on this one.  Otherwise, tweak your content a bit, give it some updates.  Update your sitemap and resubmit.

  • Good points. With the limited knowledge of SEO and ecommerce, I really do not think it's a good idea. I personally think that we just need to concentrate more on the site we do have and polish it up. Thank you for the response.

  • Hi Joel, A very broad question but you've basically got to do 2 things: Bounce Rate - Ensure your search terms closely match up to customer behaviour. If they search for "Washington Real Estate" you have to ensure that the page they land on matches what they would typically expect to find on that page. Your site must have an effective layout and present info in a way that is useful to your customer. If they land on the page, you want them to then visit subsequent areas of your site (be it for sale, for rent, info about the area etc). Time on site - This is coupled with bounce rate. If you create quality landing pages with quality content on the rest of your site, you'll be seen by customers as a resource in this area, and they'll likely stay on the site for longer searching for more information. Basically, quality content and a quality user experience.

  • Ha, I was joking. Its not offensive but I can only imagine what other searches are showing up with sometimes. I'm in NYC. Sorry with late response, Sandy and slowed my internet resources.

  • Hi there, Thanks for participating in the survey You're absolutely right - with such a long history there are always going to be some dodgy links that turn up without you having any idea what motivated those webmasters to do that. Already some interesting insights coming out of the survey. Looking forward to sharing the results. Sha

  • Not sure but it would probably be more beneficial to do it for the country in what you want to rank in.

  • We switched some of our products from paragraph to bullet descriptions and our conversion rate has stayed about the same.  However, it has reduced the number of questions that we receive about those products.
