  • I watched a few SEOmoz webinars and Rand Fishkin mentions a bit about keyword vectors, which were explained to be a matrix of sorts that groups keywords with related words. The example given was a key word snowboard is associated with mountain, snow, cabin, etc., so I'm sure Facade and Façade are closely associated, but they're apparently treated as different terms when it comes to search results--just try searching for both Facade and Façade separately (and together) and you'll get different results. I'd venture to guess that versions of words like cafe and café, resume and résumé are prioritized by location and local language, but I'll need someone to confirm that. I write copy in Chinese and English, but since I am not a native Chinese speaker, I creatively include all versions of questionable terms in anchor text and the content body at least once. To find the variation of the term I want to use consistently, I first check the local dictionary, ask my target audience, and then do a search of all variations in different search engines to decide where I want to rank highest. I've been happy with the long term results.

  • These links likely aren't bringing much if any traffic, so it's a moot point here, imho.

  • That is brilliant Marcus.  The if-else idea regarding the ID makes so much sense.  I will leave the old ones as is and change the ones from this point on. Thanks! p.s. I noticed that seomoz does the same thing with the Q&A urls.  This one's not too long because I asked a short question but some of the question urls in here are quite long!

  • You'll find .es as well, of course, especially when the .com is already registered people will look at .es domains. But be prepared to find tons of very small businesses, clubs, associations, etc. with .com domains.

  • I'd like to bump this and mention that the widgets are actually included on the page as an iframe when javascript is enabled... again, any thoughts on the SEO validity of viral widgets? Disregarding any marketing/ brand awareness benefits.

  • I would always carry out analysis of the site I was working on before I look at competitor analysis.Keyword analysis would form part of this to ensure that I knew what relevant words and phrases should be targeted. Next I would look at the content of the site to see if it contains the phrases in all the relevant places (title tag, alt text etc). A key task would then be to make sure there are no technical issues reducing the chances of your site ranking highly. I would look to get the on-page elements sorted before focusing on link building as the site may not deserve a link until on-page issues are sorted out. With regards to the benefits of article submissions and social networking I would advise you to research these areas a little more as low quality articles strewn across the web may not be the best course of action and social media aspects may or may not be worth chasing depending on whether there will be ongoing resource available to support the initial efforts.

  • Consider creating a user agent detection that will use a different style sheet when a mobile device requests it. OR you can use the mobile user agent to create progressive enhancement - building whatever the device wil allow.  Check out some of mobile css and/or progressive enhancement resources online first for more details.

  • Honestly, I think a lot of people probably read, but just don't take the time to hit the thumbs up button because they don't know what the point is, or don't care.

  • Hi John I'd agree with Paul "CMMS Software | EAM Maintenance Management Software" is the best looking structure for your title. You might find this useful if you've not already seen it. http://static.seomoz.org/user_files/SEO_Web_Developer_Cheat_Sheet.pdf

  • You might benefit form a visualization program as well like Visio, Mindjet, or Mindmiester to figure out some of the more intricate details. Also JoelHit's suggestion of using Apple.com as an example is a good one. Even though their main sitemap is smaller than what you're describing there are some subtle takeaways when looking at it as an example (http://www.apple.com/sitemap/). All their top level categories are H2 tagged major categories of their site.      a. "Apple Info" emphasizes the brand      b. Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad all emphasize product sales      c. iTunes, Downloads, Support emphasize sales and an ongoing customer relationship. Precedence is given to the core aspects of their business via their sitemap.      a. As outlined above, this is elegant and functional. Also, you'll certainly want to back up the work you do with an HTML sitemap with XML sitemaps for large scale sites and as Richard suggested register them all with Google Webmaster.

  • Until your site is the KickAss site in your SERPs just add something catchy to the title tag like "Schedule a Tour!" ....... or....... "Free Beer"........ or..... "See it Today!"

  • Your two listings: Feldman Feldman & Associates PC 12 reviews<a></a> 2221 Camino Del Rio South, Suite 201 San Diego, CA 92108-3609(619) 299-9600Other: Feldman Feldman & Associates PC    2 reviews<a></a>2221 Camino Del Rio South, Suite 201San Diego, CA 92108(619) 299-9600immigrateme.com‎ The only difference I see is the zip code "92108-3609"Not looking good.  The best suggestion I have is try again. Click on the more link on the profile page, report a problem, and select "Place has another listing." then include a link to both profiles. Luckily your reviews will probably not "get lost" as they are not on Google's site, otherwise you might lose those. The only other reason, beyond the conflicting zip code, could be that there is another account that had claimed it prior. Word of caution, don't move too quickly or too anxiously with Google places. They scare easy. If you want to read the long answer: http://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/why-google-local-listings-merge-and-how-to-unmerge-listings.htmlAdditional thoughts - It looks like both listings were edited about 11 hours ago.(edit log: Changed 11 hours ago - Phone | Added: | 619-299-9600 | )And on May 3rd two different moderators made changeshttp://maps.google.com/maps/user?uid=217460202084778845705and http://maps.google.com/maps/user?uid=216814767163749414179I would suggest that you leave the one which you have to access alone and work to merge the one you don't have access to. Don't submit tickets for both at the same time.

  • If you don't have proper pure HTML links, search bots can not be guaranteed to be able to properly crawl the site & discover all the content, search algorithms are less likely to be able to properly assess content relationships.  Proper HTML is fully capable of providing accessibility - it's a core function of HTML based navigation. If someone needs to use alternate means of navigating beyond a mouse, it's those very pure HTML links that are most likely to provide functionality to special browsers designed to meet accessibility guidelines.

  • I haven't seen or heard anything about Panda making any changes to how Flash is crawled or indexed. It would count towards page content though yeah, just not in the sense of that page content in a normal way. Videos, images, everything counts as content in some way or another... it just doesn't have a lot to go on for what that content is about.
